Hey all!
I'm so sorry, I have been busy with school so I forgot that I had this already typed out on my computer! It's the first part of the character sketch, and I will (hopefull) be adding in photos when I find them.. Enjoy!
The Maan Parivaar
Balraj Maan
The head of the household, he is the pillar of his family. He adores his daughters, as well as his brother's children. He treats them all equally, and wants the best for all of them. He has seen his brother slip away from him under his wife's influence, and he wishes to keep the children from following the same path. He loves his wife, and is constantly flirting with her in front of the youngsters, something that amuses them to no end, and embarrasses her. He is waiting to get his daughter married off to his best friend's son, and despite the lack of contact over the last 18 years, has not lost his faith.
Teji Maan
Balraj's wife of many years, she is the shelter to all her kids. They come to her with all her problems. Her world begins and ends with her family. She is Heer's support, Meher's protector, Ash's advisor and Shaurya's bhagvan. She worships her husband, but is constantly arguing with him over small things. She tries to see the best in everybody, and she is the only reason Balraj has not thrown his brother and wife out of their lives and adopted their kids as their own. She is worried about her children's future, but her faith in her Waheguru (which she has passed on to the kids) keeps her strong.
Balwant Maan
He is Balraj's younger brother, and he used to be Balraj's shadow in their younger years. His adoration of his brother however, has been all but wiped away by his wife's influence. He has become a joru ka ghulam, and he will do anything his wife says. Originally, he was fida over his wife's looks, but he does love her. He loves his children, and even his brother's children to some extent. His wife's influence on him however, is too great for him to do much on his own.
Daljeet Maan
Every story needs a villain, and in ours, she is the main one. She is Balwant's wife, and she loves her family, but hates her husband's brother and his family. She will do anything to put her family in a better position. She is very mercenary in nature, and had initially married Balwant for money. Her main aim in life is to get the money that Balraj's land is worth, and to get her children settled in rich families so she can live comfortably. She resents Teiji and Balraj because her younger two children seem to be closer to them then their own parents.
Vishaka Maan-Singh
She is the eldest of the next generation. Balwant's elder daughter, she is her mother's parchai. She is married to Prashant Singh, Mercenary and self-centred, they want the money that is in Balraj's name. She is her mother's chamchi, and not close to her siblings due to that fact. Not a major character, though she does make a few appearances.
Shaurya Maan
He is Vishaka's younger brother and the only son in the household. He grew up around his Ma-Papaji rather than his Mom and Dad, and due to this has remained uninfluenced by his Mom. While he does love his parents, he is not oblivious to their reality, and so he lives with his Ma-Papaji. Closest in age to Heer, he treats her more as a friend due to the fact that they not only grew up together, but went to school together as well. He was a flirt once upon a time, but has since mellowed out do to situations in life. With his Papaji's help, he is now successfully running a steadily expanding business.
Heer Maan
Noted to be one of the sweetest and prettiest girls in Ambala, Heer is our protagonist. She is extremely intelligent, but very shy and quiet. A traditional sort of girl, she is much like her mother. Heer has been engaged to her father's best friend's son since she was little, and has spent the last 18 years of her life waiting for him. While it often seems like she is meek, she is very passionate about her ideals and values, and will not compromise them for anything. Her temper, when aroused, is a sight to be seen.
Ashlesha Maan
The youngest child of Balwant and Daljeet Maan, she is nothing like her elder sister. The most modern from all the Maan children, she is the most reputable beauty in Ambala, as well as in Ludhiana. She is vivacious and lively, and has boys falling at her feet. While she is very particular about her looks, she is also smart. She loves her Ma-Papaji tremendously, and is often at their house rather than her own due to the differences in her and her mother. She is extremely close to her cousins and her elder brother, and would do anything for them.
Meher Maan
The youngest in the Maan household, she is not one to be trifled with. While she is not conventionally beautiful, Meher is outgoing and loud, and it is next to impossible not to like her. She loves to eat, almost as much as she loves her family. Together with her best friend Ash, she has the whole of Ambala dancing to her tune. She is bossy and quick to temper, but loyal to her friends and family. She is also a little insecure due to her slight chubbiness, and is both eagerly awaiting and dreading the day her sister will be happily married off.
Hope you enjoyed that! (I can't find the type of photos I want, so I'll only post photos after my exams..) The next part will probably be posted only sometime in early October. Sorry, but I'm having my prelims at the moment, and am swamped with school! I'll try to post earlier, but we'll have to wait and see!
