Chapter 5

Prachi heaved a huge sigh after Milind Mishra left her office. The meeting had gone better than she expected but it had still drained a lot out of her. She heard a knock on the door and Ms.Reddy peeked into her office.

"Ms.Shah, are you alright? Can I get you some coffee?" Ms.Reddy asked her voice filled with concern.

"Uh no Ms.Reddy. Thank you for asking. I'm just going to go down to the cafeteria to join my friends." Prachi replied. "And Ms.Reddy I'm sorry for being a little curt to you earlier. I had received some bad news and was still coping. I hope you can forgive and forget." Prachi really hoped she hadn't offended Madhu. She had been a great assistant and an even better friend.

"Don't worry Ms.Shah. I knew you weren't yourself. There is nothing to forgive. Go on and find your friends now." Ms.Reddy said graciously.

When Prachi reached the cafeteria she saw Mru flipping through a magazine and Geet had aligned a couple of chairs together and was sleeping soundly. As soon as Mru saw her she got up quietly and walked over to Prachi.

"Geet was on call last night and apparently didn't get any sleep. And she kept getting calls on her cell phone, from the hospital I'm guessing. So I took away her phone and told her to get some rest. How did your meeting go? Did you meet with your VPs?" Mru asked

"Not only did I meet with the VPs, but the guy who took over my company dropped in for a friendly chat." Prachi informed her.

"What? What on earth did he want?" Mru asked horrified.

"Forget that! Was he cute?" said a voice from behind Mru. Geet had apparently been awake the whole time and listening to their conversation.

"Geet!" Mru admonished. But Prachi had to laugh. It was typical Geet to ask if the man who took over her company was cute.

"So Geet I hear you had a busy night." Prachi said taking a seat next to Geet.

"Forget my night Prachi. Lets talk about you. We all know I have no idea about business but you know my father can make a few calls and help you out." Geet offered.

Geet came from one of the most prominent business families of the country. That had been one of the main reasons Geet had steered clear of business. She didn't want to live in her father's shadow. That along with the fact that Geet was one of the most nurturing people in the world had made medicine the obvious choice. All she had needed was a gentle nudge and Prachi had given her just that.

"No Geet. Its ok. Everything worked out fine. This is actually a good thing for the company. I might need him to look over some papers for me later though but I can call him and arrange that meeting. But thanks anyway." Prachi reassured her friend, but Geet didn't look very convinced.

The cafeteria attendant brought them all coffees and Prachi told her friends that she didn't want to talk about work. So Geet started to talk about hers, which was a big mistake because her stories made the other two nauseous. Geet had a habit of describing every sign and symptom of every single patient till either Prachi or Mru told her that they had had enough.

Prachi wondered how life would have turned out if she had followed her own dreams. The sad fact was she never had any dreams of her own. She had grown up wanting to be her father's daughter. Heck she hadn't just put the man on a pedestal she had built him a temple with an ornate altar. However she had learnt the hard way that no one in the world could live up to that high standard. Maybe she should have looked harder and found her calling. Forget calling she didn't even have a hobby that she pursued. Mrudula was working about 10 hours a day but she still found time to paint and cook. In fact Mru had been the one who had painted the portrait of her father in the office as an office-warming gift and the one with the three of them as a birthday gift a very long time. That gift had sparked a row where Geet had demanded her very own copy and poor Mru had to make one more. Geet was in medical college, worked about 80 hours a week but she still made time to read the hundred of novels she devoured. Prachi had nothing. She went to work spent 12 hours there, came home, talked to her mother, called these two and went to bed. And as an added bonus she seemed to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders. Her siblings were either too young or too spoiled to be bothered by things like business or putting food on the table. At least she had these two by her side.

Love the way u write sis... You brought out Prachi's emotions, n managed to make me feel sorry for her without all the melodrama and tears, which Ekta uses, but unfortunately never works... love the fact that she has two wonderful friends to help her out.. Geet is absolutely unique... Wonderful chapter sis...
N i call the time difference to my defense, yet again...really sorry sis, and i hope i made up for all the late reviews with this really early one????

Finally I kept checking for the update. Aha a part dedicated to Madhu she'll love it Ms Reddy is sure a sweetheart. I liked Prachi's self realization in this part. The fact that her father was not perfect and that ppl need to move on with life.Nice update hun I liked geet's question.."Was he cute!!!!"that was a stunner. 😊

Ms.Reddy is like our very own Ms.Reddy..! lol..!

and i wanted Prachi to realize that even though her father was her hero he was only human.

Geet's question.. well that i was channeling someone from my life lol..!
