The C-night is special for any married couple as they embark on a new phase in their marital life. It is supposed to be pure and sacred and underlines the physical essence of marriage - 'And the two shall be one'. Yet BT serials are famous for distorting it, corrupting it of its purity and generally making a parody of it. Either the hero voices his regret the morning after (KS), or worse still, he would have been too drunk to even remember it (KA) or do it in an impulse after saving his wife(KAA). Never is the couple made to feel good about it the next day. And yes, they will part company soon thereafter in some pretext or other. What should have been a binding force then becomes a breaking point.
I was happy that KYMT was an exception to that rule. They showed a beautiful C-night when both the parties were sober, fully conscious of what they want and had confessed their feelings before they took the all important step. Just as we squeezed our eyes in disbelief, they followed it up with an even more beautiful episode of the morning after when that love is reinforced in the small gestures that the couple gave each other to show just how much they mean to the other. Alas, we sigh, these guys have broken their shackles and have given c-night its due reverence. How wrong can we get.
In retrospect all these beautiful scenes appears to have only been the calm before the storm. The sanctity of the very act is now being questioned by our hero who is bitterly wondering whether it was not all part of an elaborate act by his wife to entrap him. He is cursing himself for ever giving in to it thinking that it meant more to her when all she may have done is to bearly tolerate him to bring in her 'illegimate' child into their house. These insuations are far worse than plain regret and forgetfulness shown in the earlier BT serials. It is not only stabbing at the heart of the one they were directed to but also the heart of the one who was making the accusations, not to mention us poor viewers who feel for both of them. It is like taking us to Mt.Everest and rolling us from there, nice and slow!
When will they ever stop belittling the signifance of the c-night in the lives of couples? Or is this the price we are expected to pay for watching BT serials and falling in love with their jodis?
