Recap: Ayesha tells Prachi that she is pregnant with Milind's child. Prachi doesn't want to trust Ayesha until she speaks to Milind. Prachi goes to meet Milind at his office and asks him if he slept with Ayesha. Milind answers honestly, and says that he doesn't know. He promises to meet her at home in the evening where he will explain everything.
Part 27:
Prachi refused to take the company car back home from Milind's office. She decided to take an auto-rickshaw instead. Once she arrived home, she immediately paid the driver and walked into her house quietly. The house was silent, and Prachi could tell that everyone had gone out for the day. She knew her mother and grandmother were at the Mandir, and Mishra Ji was also out of the house. Soumya and Bobby were at their college, while Sukriti had gone out with Saket. Suyesha was at her mother's house. Prachi had no idea where Neev, and Alaap were. She assumed that Ayesha was still at the doctor's office.
Prachi was thankful that nobody was around, since she was in no mood to talk. She slowly walked into her room and locked the door. She sat quietly on her bed as thoughts raced through her mind. She closed her eyes as scenes from the past several months flashed in front of her. She remembered her terrifying wedding night, and she remembered dancing with Milind at the Independence Day party. Prachi recalled how Milind took care of her when she was in the hospital and she fondly recollected the night when they finally became one. Prachi smiled as she thought of how much fun she had in Australia with Milind.
Suddenly, Prachi opened her eyes and tears started dripping down her cheeks. She realized what the current situation was. She realized that Ayesha was pregnant. Ayesha said Milind was the father. Milind said he did not know if he slept with Ayesha or not.
"Am I an idiot?" thought Prachi, "How could all this happen without me having even a clue about what was going on?"
Suddenly there was a knock on the door. She looked at the clock. It was only 2pm. Milind said he would be home at 4. Still, Prachi thought that maybe he had come home early since the matter was extremely serious.
Getting up from her bed, and wiping her tears, Prachi opened the bedroom door. Standing in front of her, was not Milind, but rather, the person she wanted to see the least right now. Standing at the door was Ayesha.
Not waiting to be invited into the room, Ayesha immediately walked in and hugged Prachi.
"Prachi. I am sorry," wailed Ayesha.
Prachi said nothing.
Ayesha rambled on, "Milind told you the truth didn't he?"
"He said he didn't know what the truth was," responded Prachi softly.
Ayesha immediately stopped hugging her half-sister as anger flashed in her eyes. "WHAT?" screamed Ayesha, "WHAT DOES HE MEAN?"
Ayesha dropped to the ground and started crying, "I am pregnant with his freakin' child and he is still doing this drama! Oh my GOD!"
"What can I do Prachi? What can I do? Tell me! What the hell am I supposed to do? I am having his CHILD! He has been telling me that he loves me for years and now…now he is acting!!"
"Tell me Prachi? Do you actually believe him? How can someone now KNOW if they sleep with somebody? Do you believe him?" questioned Ayesha.
"I don't know," answered Prachi softly, and in all honesty.
"Well sorry Prachi, but then you are an idiot! You think he loves you don't you? Then tell me this, why the HELL WOULD HE SLEEP WITH ME?" yelled Ayesha.
"He has been cheating both of us! Don't you see it?" screamed Ayesha, as she cried intensely.
Ayesha rose from the ground and walked towards Prachi and grabbed the manglasutra around Prachi's neck. "Yeh manglasutra! What does this mean to him Prachi?! Answer me! WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO HIM?"
Prachi stood there in silence.
"This means nothing to him! He's a MAN! He knows nothing more than lust. He used you and he used me. All he wants is physical contact. Milind knows how to play the game…and he plays it well! He knows what to say to girls to make them fall in love. I've known him since he was a young boy…I KNOW HIS DIRTY HABITS! I just can't believe that I fell for him, and that you fell into his trap too!! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO? TELL ME PRACHI, WHAT AM I GOING TO DO? I AM PREGNANT!!"
"Prachi," continued Ayesha, "I swear on my unborn child! I have been sleeping with your husband! I share a relationship with Milind. We love each other....or at least, I thought he loved me!"
Still Prachi stood there in silence. This infuriated Ayesha further.
"What kind of woman are you Prachi Shah? TELL ME! What kind of woman can tolerate this crap from their husband? He doesn't love you and still you stand here in silence! Sorry Prachi, but your mother made a mistake. You, like you mother, will live in a world of lies. She made the mistake of staying in a loveless marriage and now you will make the same mistake."
"No I won't," responded Prachi, with no emotion on her face, "Get out of my room Ayesha."
As soon as Ayesha left, Prachi locked the door and walked over to her mirror. She looked at her reflection in the mirror. She looked like she had been through hell. Her face was pale and lifeless. She had no more tears left to cry. "What have I done with my life?" she thought to herself.
Enough was enough. She knew that her father's lies had left her family scarred and anguished. She know how much her mother had suffered. She loved her father, but the day that she had found out about her father's affair with Ayesha's mother, Prachi had been heartbroken. That day she had made a promise to herself. That day, Prachi had promised that she would never subject herself to the same treatment her mother had to endure. She had promised herself that she would never tolerate such behavior from a man. Today, it was Prachi's time to live up to that promise. Looking at her pale, heartbroken reflection in the mirror, Prachi knew what she had to do.
