Recap: Prachi and Milind share a kiss.
Part 44:
Prachi rushed through the hallway, tears streaming down her cheeks. She felt horrible. She couldn't believe the audacity of Milind to pull such a move. How dare he kiss her, knowing everything that's happened? Furthermore, Prachi couldn't believe herself. She had melted in his arms. She had felt whole again.
She raced into her hotel room and bolted the door shut. She sunk down to the ground, leaning against the door, crying hysterically.
She had actually liked the kiss. She was disgusted with herself.
She couldn't account for Milind's actions, but she very well knew that she could account for her own. Then why did she let him kiss her? Why didn't she stop him sooner?
She sobbed hysterically when she heard forceful pounding on her door.
"PRACHI," bellowed Milind, "Prachi, open the door."
Prachi sobbed quietly.
"Prachi, I know you're in there. Please open the door," he pleaded.
He waited there for several minutes, but Prachi didn't move.
"Listen, Prachi," he spoke logically, "I don't want to blackmail you, but I will if I have to. I don't think you want everyone at this hotel to know about our past. Open the door, or I am going to do down to the lobby and tell everyone the truth."
Prachi silently cursed her fate. She knew Milind well enough to know that he wasn't uttering a false threat. Resigning herself to her fate, she stood up and opened the door.
There he stood, looking scruffy and stressed out.
He looked at her face. Her eyes were red, and she refused to make eye-contact with him.
He instantly moved into the room, and locked the door. She tried walking away from him, but his forceful grip captured her arm, as he pulled her close. She looked up at him.
"Prachi, I'm not sorry I kissed you," he spoke slowly.
She looked away from him.
"Prachi, I need to tell you something."
"What's the use, MIlind? Why are we doing this?" she snapped, now staring defiantly at his face. Enough was enough. She did not want him dictating the terms of her life. What could he possibly say to make her change her mind now?
"Because Prachi'because," he spoke. She looked away from him again. Frustrated, he put his hand on her chin and forcefully turned her face toward his. He held her chin in his grip, not caring if it hurt her.
"Because I love you dammit!" he thundered.
Prachi felt her world tumble. She felt like she just got hit in the gut. Why did he always evoke such horrible feelings in her?
"Really?" she snickered, "Did you love me when you made love to my half-sister, Ayesha? Did you love me when you asked Anjali to come with you to Australia? Did you love me when you told me that you never liked sleeping with me? Did you love me a couple moments ago when you threatened to blackmail me if I didn't open the door?"
Milind's heart broke right then and there. There he stood having confessed his feelings to her. These feelings had made his days long, and his nights sleepless. These feelings had haunted him like a plague for the last six months. He'd tried denying them, ignoring them, and finally, accepting them. Here he stood now telling the only woman he ever loved the truth. In return, she rejected his statement.
"You don't love me?" he asked, his eyebrows contorting in irritation.
"Answer MY questions," snapped Prachi, as she moved away from him.
"WHAT CAN I POSSIBLY TELL YOU PRACHI? WHAT CAN I TELL YOU NOW THAT I COULDN'T TELL YOU SIX MONTHS AGO?" he yelled frustratingly.
"I don't love Ayesha. I've NEVER LOVED HER. She is NOT a part of my life. I threw her out of the house the day you left me. I HATE HER! I brought Anjali to Australia because I DID NOT WANT TO REMEMBER ALL OF THE TIME I SPENT HERE WITH YOU! I couldn't come here alone. I KNEW ALL I WOULD DO WAS THINK OF YOU. I needed someone to distract me. YOU KNOW WHAT THOUGH? NOTHING CAN DISTRACT ME FROM THOUGHTS OF YOU! I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE IF I BROUGHT THE HOTTEST INDIAN MODEL TO THIS PLACE THAT I WOULD STOP THINKING OF YOU!!! But no, Prachi your thoughts run in my veins. I can't even touch Anjali without thinking of you! I've never even kissed her, knowing that nothing can compare to YOU!" he vexed.
Prachi stood not knowing what to say. She looked at him with tears forming in her eyes. She did not want to fall weak to his words.
"That day at my lodge, I said some very hurtful things to you," he explained, running his hands through his hair in frustration, "Things I didn't mean. I'm sorry. You have no idea how sorry I am. You are the most important thing in my life. I've cherished every moment we've shared. I've spent nights thinking about you. What you were doing. Where you were. How you were. I couldn't get my mind off of you! Those nights we shared, Prachi, have been the best nights of my life. How could anyone ever compare to you? When you left, I was angry. I was hurt. But, I've realized that my anger is nothing compared to my love for you. I know you must feel the same way, Prachi. I know that my powerful feelings are not one-side. How can they be? How can something so powerful not be real?"
Prachi was overcome with emotion. She loved him too. She loved him more than anything else in this world. She herself had been denying the truth, but Milind's confession has opened the locked doors of her heart. She wanted to tell him her true feelings. She wanted to hug him, and kiss him. She wanted to hold him and never let go.
Prachi was about to speak, when suddenly a though dawned on her. Ayesha.
Prachi realized the damage that Milind had already done."How stupid can I be?" thought Prachi, "I already fell victim to his words once. I already fell for his deceit. He wants me to fall into the same ploy again? He's trying to convince me of his fake love all over again. Does he think I'm going to believe it again?"
Prachi decided to have her own fun. This was a game for Milind. Now, she was going to play the game too.
She feigned a smile, and walked over to him. She put her hand on his neck and grazed his skin. His arms tried to envelop her waist, but as he tried, she quickly moved away.
"Prachi.." spoke Milind.
"Mr. Milind Mishra," she spoke, "One of the richest men in India. You're a very business-savvy man. It's a shame you're so stupid when it comes to women."
"Prachi?" questioned MIlind, not knowing where this conversation was headed. He'd just poured his heart out to his wife, and now she was behaving so oddly.
"If everything went according to your plan, you could have you wife, her half-sister, and your model girlfriends too. How convenient. You could father children at your will. You could switch women as often as you switch ties. Sounds nice," she laughed.
"PRACHI! What the hell are you saying?" yelled Milind.
"Where is Ayesha? Can you tell me that you never slept with her?" she retorted.
"I already told you. I kicked her out of the house. And, no, I told you, I don't know if I slept with her!"
"You honestly expect me to believe you? You think that it's no big deal! How do you not KNOW something like that?"
Milind gritted his teeth, with anger building up inside of him, "Listen, Prachi, if you had given me a chance to explain myself six months ago then we wouldn't be having this stupid conversation right now. You are an idiot to fall for Ayesha's plans!"
"Is that your explanation?" asked Prachi.
"No! I don't know what happened with Ayesha. All I know is that early on in our marriage when I found out about you and Neev, during your college reunion party, I was upset as hell. You must remember my reaction. I fought with Neev and I left our room in anger. I was drinking heavily that night, and I remember Ayesha coming into the guest room. I didn't make much of it, because all I could think of was you. I went to sleep drunk. When I woke up, Ayesha was beside me. I was disgusted and tried talking to her, but she just blew me off. I didn't make much of it all. I think I would have remembered having sex with her if it had happened. After that night, things were rough between you and me for a while. But then after the picnic, and realizing your love for me and my love for you, everything was fine. We were in love. We were happy. We were thinking of having children. That day when you came into my office to ask me about Ayesha's accusations, I thought Ayesha was up to her old tricks again. I thought she was trying to break us up. I was honest with you. I told you that I didn't know. I could have easily lied to you Prachi! But no, you're my wife and I knew that our love was stronger than any of Ayesha's tactics. I told you the truth. I was in an urgent meeting and assured you that when you got home, we would talk. I wanted to clear the air with you. When I got him, you were gone. You left me Prachi. You left without hearing a word from me about the whole thing. You left without clarifying anything with me! You walked out!"
Prachi did not know what to make of Milind's words, defensively she replied, "Well you've had six whole months to come up with a decent answer. It's better than the one you gave me last time. Congratulations Milind Mishra, you should win some sort of smooth talking award. But too bad though, I know your dirty techniques and I know your way with words. You're a liar!"
Enough was enough. MIlind was not going to stand here and listen to her rip him to shreds. "You know what Prachi?" he said slowly and passionately, "the hell with you! I'm DONE! I can't believe what's happened to us. I can't even fathom that you're the same woman I fell in love with. My Prachi would never say such things without proof. You left me without an ounce of proof, and now you're doing the exact same thing. Well, I'm done. You know what? I don't even care anymore. We're done. "
He turned around and walked out of her room, slamming the door on his way out.
Prachi let her tears fall as she sunk to the floor, thinking "We were done a long time ago."

There you go friends! Hope you like it.
I've decided to speed up the storyline. So this was a heated confrontation scene.
I know a lot of you are probably very angry with Prachi right now. But as I was writing it, I tried putting myself in her shoes. She is scared and doesn't want to get hurt again. Thus, she was defensive and pretty cold-hearted. She acted very different from the Prachi that Milind fell in love with.
Please remember to leave your comments.
I love reading them.
If you took the time to read this update, please comment. I totally appreciate your input.
Now, I must get back to some serious essay writing. 😆
