O ne's a saga of love and friendship from the Balaji Telefilms stable. The other from Klassic productions is about a couple struggling to marry off their daughters. Maayka What saves this from becoming another of those umpteen sasural-maayka story- lines is its lead pair. Sudhir Pandey and Nandita Puri. Especially Pandey, whose character totally trusts and supports all of his daughters. That's unlike most parents shown on television. Also, their constant bickering and making up is really sweet…rarely are elderly couples given a chance to romance on the small screen. They do it well. The eldest daughter, Raji's (Urmila Kanitkar) mother-in-law is quite enter- taining with all her bitchiness. Her hus- band is the usual henpecked guy. He's the kind who gives a long lecture just to ask his scheming wife to shut up. The whole Jeet (Vikrant Rai) -Mahi (Neha Bamb)-Soni (Aarti Singh)love sto- ry is disappointing. It isn't very clear… he's in love with Soni but it's Mahi he talks to over the phone. Strange that they don't ever use each other's names? Can't he recognise her voice? Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what happens next, now that he knows she isn't the one he set out to marry. Monday to Thursday, 8.30 pm, Zee TV. Kayamath Like most of Ektaa Kapoor's seri- als, this one begins with a bang – interesting characters and a story that hooks you. So there's Prachi (Panchi Bora) who – like most of Balaji's leading stars – is an average looker, suit- ably young and shares a special bond with her father (Mohnish Behl). Her grandmum (Neena Kulkarni) , the matriarch, is shown to be strong-willed and broadminded. There's a slight confusion over the number of Prachi's siblings …at least three so far, including the totally wannabe brother who was intro- duced in a bad take-off from Cruel Inten- tions. Then there's Neev (Jay Bhanushali), Prachi's childhood friend and sweet- heart. His is a refreshing unpredictable character. But while most love stories twist and turn in every possible way before getting the lovers together, this one shows Prachi in the mandap getting mar- ried to another man.
