Chapter 2 (II)

For a few moments, no one said anything. When the silence was unbearable, Prachi dared to utter his name. "M..milind? Are you there?" barely a whisper. Her inquiry was met with the receiver being slammed down at the other end.

Prachi sat in anxious silence, and braced herself for what was coming. Sure enough, within moments, the door to her cabin flung open, revealing a very angry Milind.

"What…the…hell…was…that" he spoke slowly, trying to keep his anger at bay. He was already upset over the outcome, or lack thereof, from the morning meeting. Playing games was the last thing he needed right now, especially playing games with Prachi Shah.

Sighing Prachi got up. "Please sit, Milind"

"Mr.Mishra" He spat at her. Yes, it was petty. No, he didn't care.

"Mister Mishra" Prachi repeated, deliberately emphasizing each word.

They sat in silence some more. Being the impatient of the two, Milind suddenly got up. "What are you upto now, Ms.Shah?"

Before Prachi could answer, he went on, "If you think trying to charm the pants off me is going to make me soft in regards to you or this company, you're sorely mistaken."

Prachi, now at the end of her patience, walked over steadily towards him, and for a second, Milind thought she was going to punch him. Instinctively, he slightly ducked to the side, which earned him a look of incredulity from Prachi. She closed the door behind him, and Milind felt like somewhat of a fool.

"I have a…proposition for you, Mr. Mishra" Prachi said, as robotically as she could. This was just business, and she would treat it as so.

After Prachi explained her side of the story, Milind sat there for a minute absorbing all that she'd said, his brows knitted in deep thought.

"Ms. Shah, I could easily sway or buyout the remaining board members…I don't need to be married to you to control this company" he said arrogantly.

"You're right, but you're forgetting, I still hold 40% stake in this company. If you marry me, you automatically get that 40%. That would then mean, by marrying me, you'd hold an 80% stake in Shah Group"

"Besides" Prachi continued "swaying the board members in your favor is going to take time…and time is what we don't have"

The present situation of the company wasn't a mystery to either of them.

"So I marry you" Milind mused. "Hypothetically speaking, of course…I get 80% stake. I get to call the shots. I work my ass off for this company, and salvage it…" Prachi rolled her eyes at his arrogance, the man was too sure of himself.

He continued, "And all the credit will go to Shah Hotels. All the accolades, everything. What do I get? I will still be 'Milind Mishra, CEO of Shah Hotels' just another name on the payroll"

Prachi ignored the hint of bitterness in his voice. "I am sure we can work out a mutually beneficial arrangement, Mr. Mishra"

Milind looked at her uncertainly. How she had changed from the timid, shy girl that he knew of growing up. She could barely introduce herself admist a group of strangers, and here she was, proposing marriage to him. Contract marriage, he reminded himself. It's just good business.

"Okay Ms. Shah. I accept. Lets get in touch with our lawyers, and sort out the details"

Prachi nodded tight-lipped. Suddenly, she felt a knot in her stomach. How was she going to explain this to her family?

As Milind got up to leave, she stopped him. "Mr. Mishra, there's…one more thing."

When he didn't say anything, she continued. "You have to come to my house and ask for my hand in marriage" she said it so fast, he almost didn't understand what she'd mumbled.

"Hmmn." And just like that he was gone.

OK so since this is your third update and till now we've been amply nice to you over here...😆 Now i think i can get my greedy hands out and extend them towards you. Please make your updates longer.😳😛 Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. Its really a good one and thats why i am getting greedy as i am sure the rest of my clan will too.

And the way he said "don't think you'r going to charm the pants off me" lolz...haha...🤣 Ok you are doing yourself harm....you will be pestered for updates at this rate...but considering that you update so often i guess that shouldn't be a problem.😃

Newho i didn't think it was boring at all...on the contrary. Keep it up girl.
