I truly believe that the cast of kayamath (the entire cast) was very well selected. Expect for the new Dadi...everyone else fit their role to the T. And even in the new cast (if we give them a chance) everyone fits their role except for Proteek who is inconsistent with his acting. So i was thinking how much does the casting of the roles effect or determine how the character is recieved and how the story is appreciated. In my opinion, in the old cast everyone was perfect for their roles (again except for the new Dadi). And even in the new cast so far, i like the vamp (who is doing a good job of being a generic vamp), Aurintham (the brother in law, who looks as sweet and simple as his character is supposed to be) and Proteek's older brother, who needs to be a clown to have stayed married to a woman like the vamp is shown to be. I am sure he is always trying to smile or make other jovial because he constantly has to deal with that woman. The mother I feel hasn't gotten a scene yet to show her skills and Proteek is very inconsistent. He was good in his scenes in the train with Panchi...the fact that Proteek and Panchi were a young happy and very much in love couple came out well during those scenes. But since then he's been very inconsitent in his acting and Panchi Bora also (well i won't discuss that here as this will get long).
But all this i was saying because i feel that its not the actor's fault most of the time...they could be very talented but if that talent is not tapped on or exploited, its the script writer or directors fault. When we curse the creative team we curse them as a whole but how much is each one responsible for? A creative head i believe doesn't get involved in the details of each scene. But i am not defending anyone here...i am criticizing them for not doing their job right when they have a good cast at hand. THe guy playing Proteek's brother...i just watching him in "A Wednesday" and he was doing a fine job. So its not that he is not a good actor...its the scene and dialog given to him that makes him look like a joke.
The point i am trying to make is...the inconsistency comes partly due to the script and the actors are then left as confused as the veiwers. Now last week i was catching up on the story of Banoo Mein Teri Dulhan (hadn't watched it in a while). In that story after the 22 years leap a child who was a jovial, prankster...always laughing and making everyone else feel better...came back as a top notch business man, brooding, lonely, serious and no-nonesense kind of guy...even seemed a bit heartless. But they had a good expalaination for how the character became that and the consistency was maintained by the script. It made absolute sense that he hated everyone around him...especially women and actually was even ready to kill his own mother...and didn't even melt seeing her state after recognizing him as her long lost son (which was a truly moving scn btw...even i cried for her though she is the vamp in the show).
My point is that if they showed some sort of progression in Kayamath's story after the leap...and explained how the characters became the way they did over the five years...in other words if they took their time to DEVELOP a story instead of feeding us a half baked product...we might have digested it better and probably wouldn't feel so sick right now.
So what i am trying to say is...i'd take a less than average cast in a good script over a talented cast wasted on a crappy script.
