Apoorva ousted
After director Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istaanbul failed at the box-office, Ekta Kapoor doesn't want him to direct her upcoming film Generation Next. Although Balaji Films and Sunil Shetty's Popkorn Entertainment who are the producers of Generation Next had earlier finalised Apoorva to direct the film, they changed their mind after their production Mission Istaanbul failed at the box-office.
It was Ekta who told Sunil that they should get another director instead of Apoorva for Generation Next. A source said, "Ekta told Sunil that she was very disappointed with the outcome of Mission Istaanbul and that she would like someone else to direct Generation Next. It was purely a business decision and there are no hard feelings involved between the concerned parties."
Commenting on Generation Next, a source from Balaji said, "It was already decided that two winners from a reality show will star in Generation Next. That very much remains. The only change is that Apoorva will not be directing the film. We will opt for a new director now."
When contacted, Ramesh Sippy from Balaji said, "It will be better if you talk to Ekta about this. She takes the final call. But yes, we may go with some other director instead of Apoorva. His forte is action whereas Generation Next is an out-an-out entertainer."
However, Apoorva was unaware of his ouster. "I am out of the country. I am not aware of this," he said.
