KBC News - "I am so moved by the entire experience", says Boman Irani

Boman talks about being on KBC.

Boman Irani is a happy man after having won 50 lakhs with his partner Sanjay Dutt. Speaking to KBClive right after wrapping up the evening, Boman says the trip to India especially for the show was well worth it!

"What can I say...I am so moved by the entire experience. I think Shah Rukh's approach to it is so genuine, so warm, so fun-filled and still so emotional. I think the audience was also wonderful. We had a lovely audience," says Boman who flew down for the show in the midst of his shooting schedule for Goal in London.

Boman plans to donate his share of winnings to the Don Bosco Centre for Street Children. He says he is quite happy with the way things turned out for him. "I think we didn't play too badly either. I think we should be proud of how we played. Sanju and I gelled together like we always do... I think we gelled well together to put on a great show."

But it didn't come easy for the duo.

"I was really nervous at one point. Was really scared... white...I think I should have gone for that Corus answer. I thought it was too simple so let's complicate it. And I went and complicated it... but we didn't do too badly," says Boman.

Boman wants to advise the upcoming contestants on the show. "Be calm. Like in anything you do... if your heart goes dhum dhum dhum just take a deep breath. Have faith. Be calm. Search within you and you can't go wrong!

Well there you have it – words of wisdom from someone who has won 50 lakhs!

KBC News - The week that was...

Catch up on all the action from week ten only on KBClive.

Week ten of KBC has had everything – money, gifts, fun, laughter, charity- the works. It began on a surprising note when SRK and Hyundai Santro decided to gift ten Santros for the FFF contestants on Monday night. Sporting a more casual look, Shah Rukh began play with a new contestant – Ravindra Gautam – on KBC this week. Although Ravindra reached 80,000 rupees, he selected the wrong answer for the next questions and came back down to 20,000 rupees. Next on the hot seat on Monday night was Subir K. Das from Morigaon, Assam. At the close of play on Monday night, Subir had won 20,000 rupees.

However, all the fun only began at the end of the episode, when SRK surprised the remaining FFF contestants with their very own Santro cars.

Das resumed play on Tuesday night. However, sadly for him the evening ended before it even began. Having 4 lifelines in stock, Subir decided to use audience poll for the second question of the evening. Going with the Audience proved fatal and his game came to an end as the answer he selected was incorrect.

Replacing Das was Dharmesh Malhotra from Agra who had carried a gift for SRK from his wife. And as Khan enjoyed his gift, Dharmesh couldn't stay long enough to enjoy himself. Deciding on the wrong answer the game ended for Malhotra and he had to exit with only 20,000 rupees.

Akhilesh Chandra took the Hot Seat after Dharmesh. By close of play on Tuesday night he had reached 40,000 rupees. Wednesday night too belonged completely to Akhilesh. Playing brilliantly he continued to work through the questions intelligently and smartly. Using reason and fact he won 25 lakh rupees for himself and left everyone else spell bound with his knowledge.

Next on the Hot Seat that evening was Bal Bhadra from Vishakapatnam. Bhadra hasn't yet begun play and will start his quest on the Hot Seat only on Monday evening as Thursday night belonged to the Munnbhai duo – Sanjay Dutt and Boman Irani.

Playing for three different charities, both Sanjay and Boman performed very well. Keeping the audiences entertained with their wit and humour, the two won 50 lakh rupees. From quizzing to singing, the celebrity special had something for everyone.

KBC News - SRK: Nice to play host to two of the nicest people in the industry

Shah Rukh Khan talks about the joy of playing with Sanjay and Boman.

As KBC fans all over the world enjoyed Sanjay and Boman's presence on the show last week, the host seemed equally pleased as well. Having had no real time for rehearsals or briefing the two stars about the show, Khan feels the spontaneity in the show helped make it extra special for everyone.

Shah Rukh told KBClive that the reason he invited Sanjay and Boman to the show was not because of the popularity of the Munnabhai movies but for the fan following and love that the two enjoy. "The whole idea behind the programme was to get two nice people... two genuine and good people to come down to the show. The theme of the show was 'kar bhala toh ho bhala' and I didn't want to harp on about Munnabhai aspect only because I think both those individuals stand for a career in films much beyond one film or two films – not deriding or taking away from Munnabhai at all. It was a wonderful film and both of them acted very well in it. But I felt we wont get stuck only on that but bring these nice persons to come and talk about nice things like charity, giving."

Khan says he is extremely honoured that Boman, who is currently shooting for his movie Goal in London, flew down to India especially for the show as well as Sanjay, who also took out time from his busy shooting schedule. "These celeb shows are for charity and both of them feel very strongly about their charities. Boman flew down from London just for a day for the show and Sanju cancelled his trip to Khandala for a shoot. And both of them said 'no we'll come here' and they waited for hours and completed the show."

"And I think just their actions speak exactly what we wanted to say in the show – be of a giving nature and share with your fellow humans and there is a lot of beauty and greatness in giving. And that's why Boman and Sanju came on the show!" sums up SRK.

KBC News - Bal Bhadra leaves with 6, 40,000 rupees

Re-cap from last night.

Last night Bal Bhadra Dev from Vishakapatnam began his journey towards the 2 crores on offer but unfortunately for him before he could settle in, his journey came to a halt. The first hiccup came right early on at the third question where Bhadra made use of his Audience Poll lifeline. As he managed to cross this question, he reached another hurdle soon after on question five where he had to make use of yet another lifeline – 50:50 – to win the twenty thousand on offer.

However, after that Bal seemed to overcome his initial nerves and played steadily to reach the 3, 20,000 rupees question. And just when things seemed to be in his favour, Bhadra seemed unsure once again and made use of another lifeline. Using the Phone-a-Friend lifeline, Bal Bhadra went on to get the question correct and was assured of 6, 40,000 rupees at the end of his game.

Sadly, the contestant from Vishakapatnam couldn't get very far and finally two questions later he perished by giving the wrong answer. Not only did the game end for him but he also lost half his money and came down from 12,50,000 back to the minimum amount of 6,40,000 rupees.

Talking to KBClive after his game, Bal Bhadra said he was quite disappointed with himself. "Sure I have won a decent sum of money but I certainly wish I had done better. It was great being here and playing with Shah Rukh but I'll always be a bit unhappy about not doing better and losing half the money that I had already won!"

Priyanka is hot favourite on KBC

Mumbai, April 20 (IANS) Almost 90 percent of the men who occupied the hot seat opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' (KBC) had one dream. They all wanted to take Priyanka Chopra on a holiday.

The actress giggles at the observation.

'I'm aware of this. It's very sweet. In fact, when I shot for KBC this was mentioned to me. I'm told men on KBC want to take me anywhere, from a restaurant to the moon,' Priyanka told IANS.

During Amitabh Bachchan's tenure on KBC, it was Aishwarya Rai who seemed to occupy the maximum male attention.

Priyanka, who appeared on the grand finale episode of the show on STAR Plus Thursday, ponders on that one. 'Oh, really? I hope I don't get married next year.' She laughs.

'But seriously, I like being popular. That's what we work towards. I've been here for three-four years. I've long way to go. Considering, I don't have a godfather in the industry, I feel doubly gratified when people appreciate me.'

Priyanka, who was one of the judges on the recently held Femina India Miss India contest, says it was an emotional moment for her.

'It made me so nostalgic. I remembered my own walk on the ramp. I knew exactly what the girls were going through. It was tough. I kept telling the other judges to get it right because it could make or break lives.'

She says life since the crowning has been tough.

'The walk from the ramp to the screen hasn't been easy for me. So far the journey has been worth the while. To keep one's head on the shoulder and one's family by one's side is very important. I'd be nowhere without my family.'

She has more reason to get nostalgic.

''Big Brother' is the first film I shot for. But miraculously we completed most of the film in the last six months. So it's as fresh as a daisy. I haven't done a film like this. And my co-star Sunny Deol will always remain special.

'I'm still very nervous of him. I still can't look him in the eyes. There's so much respect for him when he walks into a room. It's easy to get enamoured of his personality.'

Priyanka remembers her initial gawkiness.

'I didn't know where to stand, which way the camera was facing. Today, I'm far more confident. I'm learning. I go to my set everyday like school.'

She admits 'Big Brother' is a hero-centric film.

'So were 'Krrish' and 'Don'. I think it's important to be part of successful films. Once I stand on my own, I can do heroine-centric films. Right now, I'm trying to do box-office compatible films. I'm not ready to shoulder a film yet. I leave it to Sunny's strong, sturdy shoulders.'

Priyanka won't sign a new film until it excites her.

'Till then I've my ads and stage shows. And I'll take that holiday which I've never taken in my life.'

Curtains for KBC 3 - and quizmaster SRK gets top billing

New Delhi, April 20 (IANS) Superstar Shah Rukh Khan signed off the first season of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' with his characteristic flourish in a special two-and-a-half hour show with Bollywood stars Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif who took home Rs.1 crore.

The grand finale Thursday night was long, but had viewers hooked as Priyanka-Kareena came on first followed by Salman-Katrina, the first time the much talked about couple has opened up about their relationship.

The star of the evening was, however, the irrepressible Salman Khan who brought the house down with his antics.

When launched on Jan 22, the initial response to the show was lukewarm. Comparisons with the original host Amitabh Bachchan were inevitable. And everybody, from the media and the viewers to critics and fans, dissected the minutiae of each action, nuance and gesture that Shah Rukh made.

But soon the comparisons stopped and people started enjoying the show. From Monday to Thursday, it became a kind of stress buster, generating energy and fun thanks to its charming host. SRK managed to give the otherwise serious quiz show a makeover with his witticisms and warmth.

When the show completed two weeks, the television audience measuring body (TAM) report showed the show had had a decent start.

KBC 3 opened with TRPs of 12.33 on Monday, came down to 10.44 on the second day and dipped to 7.36 on day three. By Thursday, the TRP graph had moved up to 9.24.

Expectations hadn't been high to begin with because the introduction of CAS had affected the overall TRPs of almost all television programmes.

The first season of KBC had started with 20 plus ratings - and the entire blame was put on Shah Rukh.

But King Khan remained unnerved. He kept innovating - giving away watches, offering a thinking cap, warmly hugging contestants. It all worked in his favour. Those who had initially rebuffed the show started returning to it and the ratings picked up.

'Khan ka gyan' gradually took over from Bachchanisms. Flying kisses replaced warm handshakes, 'kuchha kuchha-pucca-pucca' and 'computerda/bhai/anna' became the new buzzwords.

The OMS-Hansa Research survey revealed that 69 percent people liked the way Shah Rukh conducted the show.

'My friends and I returned to the quiz show after being initially put off by Shah Rukh, whom we constantly compared with Amitabh,' said Kunal Pandey, a Delhi-based executive.

He brought in celebrities like Arbaaz Khan, Malaika Arora, Karan Johar, Farah Khan, Farhan and Zoya Akhtar, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji, Sanjay Dutt and Boman Irani, adding glitter to the already glamorised show.

Later he presented some of the participants with cricket bats and just a few weeks back actually gave away nine cars to the nine participants of the 'fastest finger first' contest.

'It might sound a little material, that I keep giving away watches, cricket bats during the World Cup season, and whatever I can get hold of in terms of what is special to me. But I think the car idea is not very original. There is someone else who has done it before?

'Yes, Oprah Winfrey. She had given away cars to the audience. If I could afford it, I would actually give away Rs.20 million to everyone,' Shah Rukh was quoted as saying in an interview.

Shah Rukh's only grudge was that nobody could win Rs.20 million (Rs 2 crores). In the last season too, which came to an abrupt end due to Amitabh's illness, none of the contestants were able to bag the big prize money.

Shah Rukh has promised to keep in touch with his fans through blogs and messages.

He said: 'I'll be honest and say maybe not with the frequency I have been right now - but say once a month or so I'll definitely be on. Because once I move on from KBC I have to go and finish some of the work I'm doing just now on my film.'

When Shah Rukh returns, he might not have to struggle to get the attention. People may start missing the daily dose of humour and fun.

SRK's mehfil on Thursday overshadowed Abhiash's mehndi party

AFSANA AHMED Times News Network

You gotta hand it to Shah Rukh Khan. Even as Amitabh Bachchan's bungalow Jalsa in JVPD was alive with the Abhiash mehndi party on Thursday night, the Bollywood Badshah pulled off his own rocking mehfil on the final KBC episode. And unlike the Bachchans, whose function was a highly guarded affair, SRK did it in style and with the Indian aam junta as his viewers.

In a coup of sorts, SRK got star buddies Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor as the guests on his show. Incidentally, these stars were not invited to the Abhiash wedding.

The two-hour programme, with high drama, some nailbitingly stressful moments and loads of laughter, saw SRK and Sallu at their fizziest and funniest. There were also some candid moments between Sallu and Kat, plenty of giveand-take with Priyanka and Kareena, and SRK's undeniable charm. It was enough to keep the viewers glued to their seats and forget the Abhiash wedding for sometime.

"If Amitabh Bachchan sher hai toh Shah Rukh kya kam hai," said a maidservant after watching the show. Even though there is no comparison of the two occasion, this sentiment echoed everywhere, right from households to local trains. "It was too good. Salman's adorable antics and SRK's charm floored us," said Asha Josephs, a researcher in a firm.

SRK's getting the media shy Salman on the show along with girlfriend Katrina, was something that will be remembered. And whoever thought there was any cold war between 'Piggy Chops' and 'Bebo', will have to take back their words. The camaraderie between the two pretty ladies, specially when SRK took their cases, was hilarious.

There wasn't any trace too of the previous spat that happened between Sallu and SRK when the former was seeing Aishwarya Rai while she was working on SRK's home production. Also, Thursday's show publicly sealed the Sallu-Kat romance. Both the participants, won above fifty lakhs and donated it to charities. But for viewers everywhere, it was paisa vasool and a diversion from the Abhiash wedding that dominated the news almost all this week.

Orissa wants KBC apology for wrong info on poet
Sandeep Mishra
[22 Apr, 2007 l 0101 hrs ISTlTIMES NEWS NETWORK]
BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa government on Saturday lodged a strong protest with a private TV channel for "disseminating wrong information" about saint-poet Jayadev through its popular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati-III .

In the game show's April 16 episode, anchor and Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan mentioned that Jayadev, who composed "Geeta Gobinda", worked in the court of Bengal ruler Laxman Sen.

This has not gone down well with several culture-conscious people of the state, as researchers have, after a long debate, accepted that Jayadev was born at Kenduli village in Puri district. They said the poet, in the mediaeval times, had dedicated his life composing and singing hymns in praise of Jagannath.

The state government, in a letter to the producers of KBC-III, said the description of Jay-adev as a court-poet of Laxman Sen has "hurt the sentiments of the people in Orissa" because he (Jayadev) had never worked in any court.

"Such utterances by Shahrukh are unacceptable. The team of KBC should do proper research before placing any historical fact because the gameshow is very popular and can mislead a complete generation," said culture minister S N Patro. "Historians and researchers have proved that Jayadev was born at Kenduli village. Though he wrote in Sanskrit, he was a pure Oriya and never served in any court," Patro added.

"We want the channel to beam the fact in its next episode and also tender an apology," he said. The government's letter came a day after celebrations of birth anniversary of the legendary poet.

Best friend...

TEARFUL BYE: Shah Rukh discovers onions in his pockets as he searches for a handkerchief to wipe away the tears on the concluding episode of KBC 3 on Thursday EOF8

YOU came like a gush of wind,
Here one second, gone the other.
Who could have done better than you,
There's certainly not another.

YOU are one among the celebrities,
We know you as a star.
But it was only through KBC
We saw the great person that you are!

AN ideal character for the show,
So cheerful all the time.
You made every contestant comfortable,
You were linguistic, sweet and fine.

A STRANGERyou were to us before,
Soon you became our best friend.
Now that the show is over,
Our broken hearts none can mend.

Good luck, God Bless and a ''muah'' to you, sir!
Mrs Reema D'Souza
It was as if SALMAN came home visiting

THElast episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, featuring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Salman came up with some really funny one-liners and his ability to respond to questions with smart quotes was commendable.
Watching Salman dance and hear him mimicry, the atmosphere was as if he was at our home.
Like Shah Rukh said at the opening of the show, Salman is a down-to-earth person, who has been much misquoted and misunderstood.
