KBC News - Shah Rukh's Swiss Effect

Swiss fan comes down to India to meet her favourite star.

Shah Rukh Khan has a huge fan following. And everyday the sets of KBC is filled with fans from all over the country wanting to get a glimpse and if it's their lucky day a hug too from their favourite superstar. But of late the set is also being visited by King Khan's international fans - from Pakistan to Switzerland to the US have all managed to reach the sets.

Just last week we met a die hard fan of Khan who had especially come to Mumbai with the aim of meeting him. Dressed in jeans and T-shirt that had SRK all over them as well as a belt that was adorned with the alphabets 'SRK', she sat quietly in the audience soaking in her favourite star's presence.

"I still can't believe I met him. He came and stood by me at the end of the recording. Can you believe that!?" says the excited fan from Basel, Switzerland.

"I have watched quite a few of his movies and I think he has a lot of emotions in him. I am now going to go to Delhi to see his old house and everything. I can't explain how excited and happy I am today," she adds.

She told KBClive she was confused over what she should gift SRK when she met him. "I wanted to give him something nice but at the same time something he can remember me by. So I got him a pack of cookies that are famous in my hometown of Basel. I do hope he likes them!" she says as she shows us a beautifully packed silver box of cookies.

KBC News - KBC this week...

Catch up on all the action from the entire week right here.

The week began with rollover contestant from last week Dr. Prashant Mannur from Banglore who wanted to go to buy himself an island had he won the 2 crores. Before he got back on the hot seat, KBClive had spoken with Mannur who said he had been quite tense over the weekend. He was upset about his shaky start and hoped he could go further in the game. Thankfully for him he reached 6, 40,000 rupees – one of the safest spots in the game- and then exited the game as he got the very next question wrong.

Next on the hot seat was Hafeez Nawaz Khan who was very excited to have the opportunity for meeting King Khan for the second time in his life. Playing very intelligently he continued to move up the ladder and had reached 1,60,000 rupees when he gave a wrong answer and crashed to 20,000 rupees.

The next evening, the first contestant to reach the Hot Seat was Sakharam Chopde. A photographer from Buldana, Sakharam was nicknamed Bapu by SRK. The two of them developed a wonderful rapport and were often seeing joking on the Hot Seat. Khan was quite upset to see another crash when Bapu went from 12, 50,000 rupees to 6, 40,000. As Bapu wanted to use this money for his two daughters' weddings, SRK decided to gift him two watches for his daughters as well.

Wednesday night saw IIT graduate and die-hard SRK fan Kumud Bajaj reach the Hot Seat. However, the journey wasn't very easy for Kumud. The whole situation seemed to get too much for her and she began faltering in almost every question. She used up all her lifelines very early into the game and soon exited from the game with 1, 60,000 rupees. After Kumud, Dilip Jashvantray made it to the hot seat. SRK decided to call him DJ as he found him very cool. By the close of play that night DJ had won 10,000 rupees.

Thursday evening began with rollover contestant Dilip "DJ" Jashvantray. Many new phrases and ideas came into play. Keeping in trend with DJ's cool attitude SRK decided to use phrases like "yo freeze it" and the "finger-meet" instead of a Hi-fi. And when DJ was stuck on a question, SRK tells DJ about his "Thinking Cap" which bore Khan's autograph. DJ won 12, 50,000 rupees before he decided to leave the game as he wasn't sure about the answer to the next question for 25 lacs. After DJ, Nitesh Ukaani from Gujarat reached the Hot seat. SRK was quite amused to hear that Nitesh has a dog named "Don." Nitesh steadily reached 80,000 rupees with all three lifelines till intact. And by close of play this week, he had reached 3, 20,000 rupees.

So how far will Nitesh reach next week? Tune in on Monday night to find out.

Enjoying a break from shoots

Ladies and gentlemen….boys and girls… it's great to see you again.

I'm off from shoots for a few days and it feels great to have some time for myself to spend with family and friends.

But I don't know about my wife though – she is used to me being out of the house so much that when I am around she says it's almost like looking after 3 kids! I think most wives feel that way when their husbands are at home… (Or am I just trying to convince myself?)

So what have I been doing in my break?

I've been catching up on some much needed sleep. I have also been trying to get back on my exercise regime – the past couple of weeks it's been very busy and I haven't had the chance to work out. So now that I had time I decided to hit the gym again. And the best part of my time off has been spending time with my son and daughter. It's been a lot of fun – playing games, reading books and generally running around the house driving Gauri mad.

On the show I did have some great fun this week. Although Hafeez and Bapu crashing is something I could have done without! But all in all it was a great week and I wish all my contestants went hope happy with their experience on the show. I surely enjoyed playing with them.

Now I'm gonna run and I'll see you next week.

I love you.

Back in action!

Ladies and gentlemen….boys and girls… welcome back!

How was the weekend? What did you do? Like I told you I was off from shooting so I spent time with family.

But now I'm back on the sets this week and recording away. But I'm super excited about the episodes coming up this week for you all. All this week we are going to be celebrating Holi on the show. So I have a plate full of gulaal and some yummy Indian mithai by my side on the KBC set.

I've always enjoyed playing Holi but often due to our shoots I don't get the time to do it. However, this time around I'll get to play it for an entire week. How cool is that?!

Do you have anything special that you do to celebrate Holi? And my fans that don't live in India –do you celebrate it? And if you do, what do you do?

And if Holi is not a part of you culture do you have a festival that is similar to our Holi - a festival where you get to play with colour and water with your loved ones and have a whole lot of sweets …

Drop me a line to let me know.

Lots of love…

Holi with Shah Rukh, Rani and Preity

Radhika Oltikar

Like a king with his subjects.'

This was the line flashing through my mind when Shah Rukh Khan made his flamboyant entry and bowed low before the audience. Far fetched? Not really. Not when it is associated with King Khan, the Badshah of Bollywood.

This one heady moment is worth the long wait in innumerable queues that being part of the audience of Kaun Banega Crorepati entails. When my cousin working with a media agency called saying he had audience passes to the show, and asked if I was interested, I jumped at the chance. I am a die-hard romantic and no one romances the heroines better than Shah Rukh Khan. Reason enough for me -- and a few million others, of course -- to simply adore the man.

The shoot took place on February 13 and we queued up at the venue in Mumbai's Film City at 10 am. Our passes were carefully inspected, names tallied and then the long wait started.

Those who carried mobile phones, handbags, sunglasses et al were requested to line up to deposit the items in safety lockers. We could not even keep pens and paper with us, dashing my hopes of the prized autograph.

After around two hours of waiting, a crew member instructed us that we were to start entering the studio in the sequence in which he called out pass numbers. Once inside, I was surprised to see how small the set was -- it looks pretty big on television. The lucky ones were those who were assigned the first row. On this day, the front row rather appropriately comprised a set of giddy headed college girls, soon to make the most of their good fortune.

Another hour passed, during which we were instructed about the code of conduct expected of the audience. We were to look enthusiastic, maintain decorum and laugh and clap at the right places. In case some of us missed the joke, the 'laughter' sign above our heads would be flashed!

Then, since this was the Holi special episode, we were put through a rehearsal of sorts. We were to enthusiastically respond 'Holi hai' and 'Wah wah' and 'Haan jee' to Shah Rukh's questions as part of his little act.

At this point, many among the audience were getting restless, and the refrain 'But where is Shah Rukh?' was audible. Then, after what seemed forever, came the big moment. A lady informed us that Shah Rukh was on the set and then, with a 'Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you Shah Rukh Khan,' he was upon us!

The audience went wild as he flamboyantly went to each side, bowing low and aadaabing in that inimitable manner. 'Shah Rukh, we love you!' screamed the girls.

Much has been said about Shah Rukh Khan's charisma and energy. But when you see him interacting with his fans, you realise that there is also a lot of humility in him. His manner is of one who acknowledges that he owes his iconic status to the love of the common man. Even the pesky, overbearing and almost rude were handled with deference by the star.

The Holi special episode saw two celebrity guests on the show: Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta. They were introduced by Shah Rukh as 'The two most beautiful women in the world,' and indeed both looked beautiful.

Priety was glamour personified, even in a simple salwar kurta. As for Rani, the camera does not do justice to her -- it adds pounds to her super slim frame. Both were friendly, talking and laughing easily with the audience.

The shoot didn't take too long. A few retakes, a lot of friendly bantering between the ladies and Shah Rukh, and it was a wrap. Shah Rukh made it all look so easy. There weren't any awkward moments.

SRK was energetic, his manner spontaneous even in the retakes. His impromptu wit always funny, never offensive. And of course, the famed charisma. You realise it is not one of his traits in isolation that is the secret of his phenomenal success. It is the unique sum of all.

After the shoot, Shah Rukh went over to each segment of the audience and hugged and shook hands with them. Pictures were clicked, and then, as suddenly as he had come, he was gone. Rani and Preity went with him, leaving us -- the audience -- with a memory we would cherish for a long time to come.

SRK's holi with Rani and Preity!

by Debasis Jana

Shah Rukh Khan recently shot a holi special episode for the game show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati', which he is hosting presently. The episode, titled 'Holi Hungama' will be aired on this Thursday, on the eve of the holi, the festival of color. As per reports, Bollywood beauty Rani Mukherji and Preity Zinta, who will be the star contestants of the special episode, were present on the KBC set with SRK to shoot the episode.

The show started with huge rejoices as its host Shah Rukh introduced Rani and Preity in his unique style. And amidst a noisy applause, when the actresses announced to donate the prize money for charity to Holy Family Hospital , which looks after children with heart problems, and Himachal Pradesh Red Cross respectively, the audiences almost went berserk congratulating the stars.

Living up to the true spirit of 'Holi Hungama', SRK introduced the colorful lifelines of the show, as-50:50 Ki Pichkari Hai; Audience Poll Ki Gulaal Hai; Phone A Friend Ka Rang Hai and Flip Ki Gujjia Hai! He also asked the ladies to smile and give out their answers and instead of 'Freezing' it, he insisted them to ask him- 'Yeh Jawab Ko Rang Laga Do Shahrukh'!

Meanwhile there was a moment when SRK attempted to play holi with his celebrity guests. He light-heartedly threatened Rani and Preity, to watch for the colored water-balloons which he aimed at them and assured that it will only leave their hair a little messy!

Even the trio will also once be seen shaking a leg to the popular track 'Mahi Ve'. And all through the show SRK went on offering both the ladies sweets to eat and to keep the mood of the occasion and festivity with every now and then putting gulaal on them. So it's a never-to-miss show, soon going to hit your drawing room. Stay tuned.

Rani's Diplomacy!

Rani Mukherji is infamous for always being politically correct. You can't stop this Bengali bombshell from crossing her ts and dotting her is. But this time we sit her down to ask some very pointed questions on the sets of KBC where she is recording the Holi Special. We had just one rule she couldn't be diplomatic in her replies.

Below is an excerpt from an interview with Rani Mukherji...

Your friendship with Shahrukh is often written about. Tell us about it.
I love Shahrukh whether that is as my friend in my real life or as my hero in reel life. He is a great person and I admire him for that. I have learnt so much from him throughout my career and still continue to do so every day.

When he asked me to come onto the show I ensured I made it here. That's just the way my relationship with him is - if he asks me for something there is no way I can ever tell him a no!

What do you think of KBC as a show?

I think this is a great show. It's the perfect way to get the family to sit together and interact. When we all watch it at home, you can't help but get involved and have mini competitions in your house. And think that's a great way. Also at the same time kids get to learn so much so yea I think this a great great show.

How do you think Shahrukh is faring as the host?

For everyone who knows Shah, they will all agree he is a people's person. The Shahrukh you see on your screen here on KBC is exactly how he is in real life too. And therefore I think this is the perfect show for him. He makes the contestants feel so comfortable and good about themselves. Personally if you ask me, I think Shah can do anything and I'll love him in everything he does.

Are you fond of playing Holi?

If you personally ask me I think day by day, Holi is only getting dirtier. As a kid I remember love playing it but over time the whole festival is losing its charm. It doesn't feel like Holi anymore. You only end up hearing of people getting hurt with all those egg balloons and mud being thrown. Holi used to be a whole lot of fun but it doesn't feel like that anymore.

So why did you agree to participate in the Holi Special then?

Like I said, Shah asked me to come and I can never tell him a no. But also more importantly this is a great opportunity for me to earn some money for a cause I am supporting. All the money I win today will be donated to the Holy Family Hospital. My niece was born there and one of the doctors there drew my attention to the fact there isn't any facility for new born babies that may have a heart condition. So therefore all the money I win here tonight will be given to the hospital to help them with building this ward.

>Kaun bharega primetime?

Fox Television's musical drama and a Balaji show will replace Kaun Banega Crorepati from mid-April

Ranjib Mazumder

Kaun Banega Crorepati will go off air from mid-April only to be replaced by a surprise package from Fox Television Network and yet another Balaji soap. Says a source in Star, "Star has planned this multi-crore gamble only to get its primetime viewership back. Of late, Zee has suddenly become popular among the audiences with shows like Saat Phere and Kasamh Se. This has been a challenge for Star and with KBC's current season going off air, Star has planned two big shows as replacements. While one will be a Balaji show, the other will be a Fox Television Network presentation. Apparently, the Balaji soap will be yet another family drama, but the Fox show, tentatively titled Meri Awaaz Ko Mil Gayi Roshni, promises to be different. Reportedly, it is going to be the first musical drama on Indian television."

The source continues, "As far as the casting for the new Balaji show is concerned, they are yet to finalise the actors, since it has just got the approval from the channel. The leading actors will be Balaji loyalists for sure. On the other hand, the most probable hosts of the Fox show will be Sudeepa Singh, the actress who had debuted on the small screen with Kabhi To Nazar Milao and Sameer Sharma, who made his presence felt in shows like Dil Kya Chahta Hai and Kahaanii Ghar Ghar Kii."

When contacted, Shailija Kejriwal, senior creative director of Star, said, "Yes, the current season of KBC is going to end in April. We have the rights to air KBC for five years. We have signed Shah Rukh Khan for two years. But since Shah Rukh also has his prior commitments for films this year, we will be coming up with the next season early next year. We have more or less finalised the two new shows which will be replacing KBC and will officially announce it soon."

Holi hai!

Ladies and gentlemen….boys and girls… thanks for logging on today.

I'm super excited today. I got two of my closest friends – Rani and Preity- to come on the show and celebrate Holi with me. It was super fun and you'll see it all tomorrow night.

It was great fun having both of them over. Not only did the two win good amount of money for their respective causes but I also got to cover them in colour. But the best part was that I got to scare them too. You'll see what I mean!

But that also brings me to an important thing I want to discuss with all my boys and girls today. Please do play Holi and have lots of fun but remember to be safe and respect others. I often read about balloons with eggs and other not so nice things being thrown on people in the name of Holi.

Have fun, play with your friends and family but keep it clean. The other day I heard of someone walking for an interview dressed in their best when someone threw a balloon on them from the top of a building. Now the poor fellow not only got wet but couldn't reach for the interview… quite upsetting.

So therefore play safe and play with colours that only come off by the time next Holi is round the corner. Have clean and innocent fun…

On that peaceful note I'm going to run away and hope to catch you tonight.

Lots of love…
