Viaan has been having troubles trusting women romantically. He doesn't really hate women in general, but is afraid of a heart break. All he has came across women who are more interested in his status rather than him, as a person. In this situation, had they shown Viaan getting involved with Katha romantically that would be out of character for him. He has been fighting his attraction towards her and that's where the ONS test comes. He knew that Katha would either pass or fail. If she passed he would no longer fight his attraction and try to build a normal relationship and if she failed he would convince himself that she was a gold digger like others and move on. But Katha does the unexpected. She goes ahead with ONS, gets the money but still can't afford to get comforts. He can't make sense of it, which is why the Kyu question bothers him. The kyu is extremely important (in his opinion) because his pass or fail depends on that.

If people find out V gave the money without the ONS part (because obviously both can't reveal that) woh hero nahi ban jaayega? I don't want that.. unless it puts him even bigger guilt ki woh kaise hero ban gaya toh phir thik hai shaayad 😆

I think they didn't show the attraction on purpose. so there are cultural differences as well as producer differences in approach of the drama. we can see that in the title.

the original is titled 1000 nights. so the drama was focused on the ML's pain and twisted view of the world and how he changes after that night. he is the anti-hero and so they didn't shy away from showing his attraction because the night is central to everything.

in the arabic version, the title means "the price". I thought that was really interesting. immediately the title gives me a sense of this world where nothing is free and you have to pay for what you want. there is no free lunch. so it makes sense why the ML would be shown having some attraction towards her. even the monologue in the beginning showed his world view -- that love is nothing but a game but really a project for the woman to get what she wants. so basically if you want love, you need to pay. there is a price. so he pays for her time.

the hindi version is titled "katha ankahee" - the title immediately tells you the focus is on katha. not the night. not the ML. not this bitter capitalist tye view of the world. no, it is about katha, her struggles, her pain. because of this, we got a lot about her in the initial episodes. we still don't know what has shaped viaan and all the things about him. this is about her struggles and what she did out of mother's love. so if they put in viaan being attracted to her, it would have appeared sleazy and adding to her pain. people would have rejected viaan.

My comments are strictly limited to Indian shows. I love strong characters. People who go through hell, fight their way through, stumble but get back up and who keep their humanity throughout the process. I see Katha as one such character. I identity with the character as there are some similarities to who I am as a person. However, I did read all the posts where many of you were not connecting to the character. Lately, I also feel like they are overdoing the superwoman part.

As an audience, I crave to understand what makes Viaan tick. There are too many unanswered questions in respect of his behaviour and actions and I find it too convenient to blame his childhood. No normal person makes such an offer...especially if there is the possibility that he was attracted to Katha from the start. Why would a good looking well-educated person pay for 'affection'. Does he feel inadequate? Show me his POV. For me personally, I like the character because I really like Adnan. I didn't have the time to watch his previous show but it always pleased me to see him on screen.

So much for it being a non-serious post🤣and I have rambled on🤣

With regards to Viaan's mom accepting Katha as a single mom and widow, here's why I think she may cause problems.

In India, marriage is seen as saat janmo ka rishta, so even if your husband dies, you are supposed to live with his memories. Notice this doesn't really apply to men because hey, men have needs (as if women don't). Teji admires Katha, at the moment, because like herself, Katha is living with her husband's memories. When Viaan and Katha would be marrying that would mean Katha, in a twisted way, betraying Adi. Aarav adds to complexity.

Divorced women have completely different set of problems. They are viewed as home breakers who refused to do their duties of adjusting with in-laws. At least widows have some sympathy but it's brutal with divorced women.

Don’t understand the need for Kavita to tell everyone about the money for Arav’s treatment at the party. It private issue. Now people are starting to wonder how Katha got it on her own. Katha only avoided that questioning from Viaan’s mom cause she was called away. Katha had no reply ready.

Maybe but he's never gonna be crappy with her ever again.. Hard to sell this story because his guilt is so overwhelming even random people will start noticing 😆 I don't mind any kind of story as long as it doesn't look like he rescued her when literally nobody helped her .. Sach bahar aaye toh pura aaye warna nope..

Yes, I agree that there was no need to go around blurting treatment costs in front of guests just because you want to praise Katha.. Matlab kuch bhi.. Why should some people who've never met Katha need to know this 🙄🤦‍♀️
