No No shawl is beautiful- in fact that’s the manipulation, uncleji was trying to hide his ugly intentions behind the beuatiful shawl. Ruined the shawl for us na! It’s one I would have loved to wear with a lovely royal blue ya emerald kurta, but now inki manhus shakl, aur pathetic akal mere heart ko angry hi karni hai!!

the reason it comes across as weird is that he is being polite in his language when he was voicing his thoughts. if we have to be crude, here are some of his philosophies that was displayed much earlier.

1. many relationships are transactional. so old men can get a young attractive woman provided he has money. he gets to have fun as long as he pays for it. she does not care about him but is only interested in money

2. women use their body and beauty to try climb up the ladder. so men have to be extra careful while dealing with them in the office

3. everything boils down to money and there is no sincerity to anything

4. no one can be trusted; the moment you let them in a little, they use you.

these are some of the negative type feels he is struggling with. the problem with viaan is that he is not completely wrong. the truth is all these things occur. there are women who use their body to get ahead. some relationships are simply transactional and many people are not interested in you but your money. and yes, you have to be smart about who you trust and open up to.

viaan is desperate to be proven wrong and to know that the wolrd can be good place and there are are people who can be relied on. instead, it is his negative thoughts about the world that is constantly being reinforced. he actually didn't mean the one night stand for real and threw it out there flippantly because she asked for an amount that seemed unreasonable. he was angry that she seemed to be taking advantage of the system where she got promoted. there is no reason to trust her because he does not know her. instead of politely telling her 'no', he pushes back with an insult.

now, he is stuck because he can't come down due to his ego. it is almost like little boys who will insist on going to visit a haunted house because they have to prove they are not scared of anything.

if it was a typical type one night stand offer, it would make more sense but also make the ML sleazy. here, it is atypical for him as well as her. infact neither will want to go ahead with this but they will force themselves to. thats what makes the story different.

@bold- This!! This is very true. He seems desparate for a hope. It seems to be his main motivation for giving her such an offer. There may be some attraction towards her but its never shown explicitly.

He seems to be someone drowning in his own sorrow and darkness. He just can't trust anyone. And in all that he saw Katha. I guess she is everything he would want in a girl. Beautiful, Very talented, dedicated, loyal and even Ehsan speaks highly of her. Her sending consignment also impressed him a lot which he doesn't accept. And unknowingly he started to trust her/wanted to trust her, wanted to believe that there might be some genuinely good people out there. But when she came asking for money it came as a slight shock. He really wanted her not to turn out like that. Even his offer seemed impulsive and he probably anticipated her angry outburst as if he knew she would not accept it. And she reinforced his belief by saying no. He seemed so happy with it. When she comes back to the cabin he has such a sweet almost childlike smile. And seems so excited to apologise. But she breaks his hope by saying yes. Only if he had said sorry first, this whole story would have gone in a different direction. We would have seen a very soft, kind Viaan.

He never expresses but probably he always craved for someone who loves him wholeheartedly not for his money but just for him. And in his world he wouldn't have found much people like that. As you said Katha was kind of his last hope for a better world. Thats why he seems so amgry and disturbed. When she messages him today he is like paison ki itni jaldi? She had already said yes but probably he was still hoping she would back out. He just desparately wants her to prove his opinion about women wrong

thats why I said it is like board exams. some of us didn't mind while others didn't want to do it. but regardless, all of us poor sods had to sit through it.
