ITV is a sexist, misogynist medium in more ways than one which is ironical because the woman is supposed to be the main player. Her hurdles are the ones highlighted and how she overcomes them is the theme.
But there's always remains a staggering difference between how male and female characters are treated for the exact same action. While the male lead characters are put on a pedestal, the female ones are put under scrutiny.
Point in question : When Prerna was married to Bajaj her every action towards him as seen as 'betrayal', 'unbecoming of her' 'no self respect' even basic care like 'have you eaten' or nursing him when he was injured.
While currently we see a ML caressing an actual villain's face and holding her hand and cupping her face. This has been going on for 8 years. And how about all that smooching even if it was supposedly for show?
What if Prerna was seen planting one on Bajaj? I can imagine the reaction. What if Prerna started a whole charade with Bajaj to get Anurag out of the way as 'sacrifice'? Will she be forgiven. Not at all. What if Prerna beds Bajaj in a drunken state? Can that ever be even hinted at? That would be considered blatant character assassination.
Why though? Because 'morality' some would say. To them I ask, why is this moral code restricted to the female lead? The answer is clear as day. The female lead's 'izzat' and 'self respect' is somehow connected to her behaviour with the ML while the opposite doesn't hold true at all.
Infact the show put this scene in : The ML peeks into the FL's bedroom and takes a good look at the kind of relationship the FL and her husband share just cause he wants to be sure that she's still physically loyal.
Thats invasion of privacy of another level. That's creepy.

While the ML of the show is shown casually touching the so called villain. Sharing a kid. Sharing a life. For 8 years. What's the verdict on that? Isn't that character assassination. Isn't that wrong? Isn't that chance pe dance. Even if Komolika herself wants to devour Anurag whole, why doesn't the moral code apply to him?
In all, ITV has different sets of rules for the Male and Female leads. While agency to do what they please and yet never be called out stays with the ML, the FL has to bear 'taanas' and 'taunts' for her agency and be called all kinds of names even when they didn't even do anything . Any action displeasing to the male lead is morally coded and the FL has to bear the brunt. ITV truly remains a sexist medium.
