I love your version of Prerna and Rishab! Finally a version of the story that gives a proper development and plot for its main characters, unlike the nonsense seen in the show. I hope you continue soon!

SIX

Prerna was soundly sleeping in her bed when her obnoxious alarm went off. She groaned and snuggled in the covers but the alarm kept ringing so she threw off the covers and sat up, stretching and yawning. Light was pouring in from the windows, the curtains were drawn to the side.

It really was a beautiful morning, birds were chirping outside. She threw the covers and got up, with much reluctance. She looked at the clock. It was seven thirty in the morning. She was late.

She padded her way through the room to the bathroom. She caught her reflection in the bathroom mirror above the sink and she looked tired, there were dark circles under her eyes and her skin felt dull. She hadn't been getting much sleep since she came back to Kolkata. She'd often stay up till late at night and get up early. Work was already hectic but with Mr. Bajaj, it was much easier.

She was glad that Mr. Bajaj had come to Kolkata because heavens know how much she needs his support.

He had been back for less than a week and he had taken up all the work. They had shifted to Bajaj mansion and her family had come to live with them while Mr. Bajaj was getting Sharma niwas.

It had taken her mother a little time to agree to come because she found it uncomfortable but Mr. Bajaj had eased her concerns with his suaveness that had a certain on people.

She remembered how the conversation had gone

Flashback

"Maa, I don't understand what the problem is," Prerna exclaimed as she paced up and down in the living room of Sharma niwas. "It's just a matter of days."

Veena sighed, "Priyu, it isn't becoming of parents to live with their daughter. What would the society say?"

Prerna groaned and resisted an urge to pull her hair. "Fine, maa. Maybe Mr. Bajaj can convince you."

Saying that she sat down on the couch between her sister in laws, Suman and Kajal, who both looked at her sympathetically.

Finally Mr. Bajaj who was watching their exchange from one corner, with a slight smile walked dexterously to the Sharma matriarch and grabbed her hands. "Aunty ji, Prerna's right. It's just a matter of days."

"But Rishabh, what about the people....?"

"Times have changed, daughters are no less than sons. Would you feel uncomfortable living with your sons if they lived somewhere else?" he asked, softly.

She only shook her head.

Mr. Bajaj continued, "Bajaj mansion is Prerna's home as it is mine. And that makes it your home too. Like I said, it's just a matter of days while I'm getting your home renovated."

"You already do so much for us, Rishabh," Veena said.

Mr. Bajaj smiled at her, "I like doing it. You have accepted me and my daughter as your family. It is my responsibility."

"Fine," Veena said. "Suman, Kajal, start packing."

End

There was something about Mr. Bajaj. N one could ever say no to him especially when he was being so sincere. There was something about those eyes, those dark pools filled with intensity and intelligence. He was just so........magnetic. He could make people do whatever he wanted.

He just oozed charisma which often made Prerna envious.

She would like to have that power that he had. Of influencing and dazzling people. She had noticed how many women fell all over him during parties. Constantly flirting with him and trying to seduce him. Often bumping into him. She remembered how a politicians daughter had touched his arm, trying to gain his attention, smiling enticingly at him during the party in Basu Bari. She had a beautiful face and lovely hands.

Prerna had wanted to deck her in the face or break her arms or do both. She had come very close. She had literally grabbed Mr. Bajaj's hand and stalked off to prevent herself from resorting to violence. These women often brought out her violent side. But it wasn't their fault.

Prerna just didn't like these women flirting with or touching, or smiling seductively or stand at close proximity to her Mr. Baj- Mr. Bajaj.

She sighed. It's six in the morning, why was she thinking of Mr. Bajaj's appeal. God, what's wrong with her? Why does she feel so possessive about Mr. Bajaj? A violent side resurfaced in her when Mr. Bajaj was concerned.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

That morning was quite busy in the Bajaj mansion. It was monday, three days after they had been to Basu Bari to celebrate Mr. & Mrs. Basu's wedding anniversary.

The entire Sharma family was there and the breakfast table was quite animated. There was lots of talking and passing of plated. Everyone was exuberant and chatting nicely. Rishabh looked at them and smiled. It was a little hectic for his taste but he didn't mind.

Prerna's seat beside him was empty. Kukki was sitting on his other side talking to her Nani Maa who was seated in front of her. Shekhar, Suman and their 7 year old son, Shivam were sitting beside Veena.

Mahesh, Kajal and their 4 year old daughter Ruhi were on the other side.

Rishabh was silent but content. He finally belonged somewhere. He looked at Veena who smiled gratefully at him. He nodded his head, reassuringly.

Prerna finally came from her room and put her hand on his shoulder, gave him a brilliant smile before sitting beside him.

"Good morning, everyone. Sorry I'm a little late."

"Morning, Prerna, " Rishabh smiled at her.

Prerna helped herself to the delicious breakfast in front of her and started eating.

Rishabh took a moment to admire her. The way her hair was tied in a loose bun, a few tendrils escaping. How her eyebrows knit in frustration as she tried to open the jar. She looked tired and yet she was the most beautiful person for him.

He was so lost in his gaze that he didn't notice that mostly everyone had left and gone to school or work. Only him, Kukki, Prerna remained.

Kukki looked up to see her dad watching Prerna and smirked devilishly.

Time for some fun.

"Mom, the photographs from that awful Basu anniversary came this morning," she said. "You and dad should see them."

Rishabh had watched his daughter's smirk and was worried about what she was going for. She had the same smirk he had before going for the kill. He knew his daughter well. She may seem innocent but she has a bit of the devil in her eyes.

Kukki pulled out the photographs and placed them in front of her parents.

they both started examining the photos while Rishabh cast apprehensive look in between.

Then Kukki pulled out the photograph in which Pankhuri Mishra, daughter of a politician was leaning uncomfortably close to him and smirking.

She showed it him, "Dad, she's Pankhuri Mishra, right."

Rishabh looked at her and asked silently to stop doing what was doing but it encouraged her even more because her mother looked upset.

Kukki continued, "Damn, she's gorgeous. And you two look so good together. She seems interested in you." Prerna dropped the toast and clenched her fist, her face an unreadable mask.

She turned to prerna, "Don't you think so Prerna?" Rishabh was racking his brain to say something wittier or at least change the conversation but it seems that he was no match for his daughter because she spoke again, quickly before giving any of them time to respond.

"You should ask her out sometimes, I mean, are you really planning on spending your life as a bachelor?" Kukki drawled. "If you get married to her, at least one thing will be covered. Your future hypothetical children will be like works of art. She seems perfect for you."

Rishabh could only stare at his daughter. He was speechless and his mouth opened like a goddamned fish.

Marriage?! Children?! WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK?

Prerna slammed her fist on the table, muttered an excuse me and ran upstairs, with tears in her eyes.

Rishabh turned around to watch her leave. When he turned to confront his daughter, she had a triumphant smile on her face.

"What in the world was that, Vanshika Bajaj?" he whispered-shouted. "Marriage? Children? Pankhuri?"

"It was a way to let you know that she has feelings for you," Kukki said, nonchalantly. "I know what Pankhuri's like. And I wouldn't let you marry her for all the unicorns in the world. I did it so you both would own up t your feelings.

You're not getting any younger, dad. I want you to find your happiness. Besides, you're losing your charm." Saying so, she kissed him on his check and went to her room.

Leaving Rishabh perplexed, more than ever.
