What is Anurag's problem? Why is he so protective of Prerna all of a sudden? Their first encounter when he said sorry was ok, but this one without knowing anything about bajaj how can he blame him for making more money in illegal ways?

Chapter 8

Prerna walked furiously towards Rishabh’s car that was parked outside the back gate of her college, she got inside the car and shut the door angrily

‘Woah… what’s wrong with you? You were alright a few minutes ago..’

Rishabh asked her in confusion as he started driving, she turned to face him and started blabbering

‘Anurag tried to talk about the previous evening, when the Basus had come home with Naveen’s rishta for me..’

Prerna was so angry that she failed to notice Rishabh’s grip become tight on the steering wheel at the mention of Naveen and the Basus, she continued her blabber

‘Har cheez ke bare main baat karne ka sahi waqt aur jagah hoti hai but nahi usse yeh conversation college main karna tha… and on top of that, he advised me to stay away from you, because he thinks that you are not a good person.. vo hota kon hai aapko judge karne wala?’

Rishabh rolled his eyes at the end of her sentence, he was used to being judged wrongly by people, he moved his hand from the gear and placed it over Prerna’s

‘Okay, even you know that the Basus hate me, so just don’t bother what anyone of them has to say about me… unki thinking mere bare main kabhi change nahi ho sakti…and now that we are together, I want you to become immune to their words as well, if you keep thinking about what they think, hum khud apne peace ko destroy karenge…’

He intervened their fingers and continued

‘Jaise ki abhi… we are about to go on our first date and you are mad thinking about what Anurag words…’

Prerna looked at him in guilt, he was right , she knew that whatever Anurag said was untrue, yet she had let his words spoil her mood, she pouted and looked at him, and suddenly she gave him a mischievous smile making him frown

‘Toh hum date pe ja rahe hain?’

‘Haan… We are officially together now... I am taking you out for coffee and breakfast, so that’s a date right?’

‘Kind off.. waise I didn’t know that you are aware about the concept of dating and all…’

She teased Rishabh and earned a glare from him in return

‘Aapko kya laga, just because I am older than you, mujhe aaj kal ke ‘dating norms’ ke bare main kuch pata nahi hoga?’

‘Haan, I mean you are always busy with your work and aap kahan itna socialize karte hain… issliye mujhe laga ki …’

‘Ke main kafi boring boyfriend banunga …’

Prerna bit her tongue and shrugged her shoulders, while Rishabh shook his head at her, they reached the cafe in a short time. As soon as they took their seat a waitress came to their table to take the order but her eyes were glued only on Rishabh who was busy going through his phone, Prerna noticed it and fumed in anger

‘Rishabh what do you want to have?’

Prerna asked in a little extra loud and sweet voice, hoping to distract the waitress from obliging Rishabh

‘I am okay with anything…’

He replied nonchalantly as he typed something on his phone with full concentration

‘Okay.. so a Cold Coffee for me, black coffee for him and one veg grill sandwich…please make it quick…’

Prerna have a forced smile to the waitress as she left to get their order, she tapped her fingers impatiently in annoyance as Rishabh continued scrolling through his phone, he smirked to himself which annoyed her more

‘Rishabh.. agar aapko pure time apne phone pe kaam karna tha toh mujhe saath kyun laye??’

Rishabh looked up at Prerna and realised his mistake, he immediately kept his phone aside

‘Umm sorry.. just something important that I have to deal with as soon as possible..’

He tried to justify himself and end the conversation quickly, he knew how persistent Prerna could be if she started asking questions

‘Really such important work that even on our first date you want to deal with that instead of spending time with me ??’

Rishabh rubbed his forehead and sighed as he realised that she was annoyed with him

‘I know.. I am sorry… but now I won’t be distracted.. promise…’

He caught her hand in his and started rubbing the back of her hand slowly with his thumb trying to calm her down but the trick didn’t seem to be working on her

‘Till how long are you going to be upset?’

‘At least until I have eaten something…’

Prerna replied in a low voice and pouted, Rishabh chuckled at her expressions and as if on cue the waitress returned with their order, as soon as she placed the sandwich plate on their table, Rishabh took a piece and fed it to Prerna

‘Guess now you are feeling better?’

Rishabh teased her as he sipped his coffee and let her relish the sandwich

‘Yep…’

Prerna managed to reply with her mouthful and realised that she had finished almost half of the sandwich whereas Rishabh hadn’t even taken a bite of it, she took a piece and fed it to him just like he had a few minutes ago

‘Waise you were right.. not all guest lectures are boring…’

‘Accha.. were you even focusing on the lecture? Because as far as I could make out you were too busy drooling over me…’

‘Oh please… mera pura focus tha aapke words pe…’

Prerna rolled her eyes at him in an attempt to hide her blush, it was true that she was distracted throughout the lecture because of him and the attention that he was getting from her female classmates

‘Aaa..so tell me something that you remember from the lecture?’

Rishabh challenged her with a smirk on his face as he knew that she was lying to him, he enjoyed the shocking look on her face as soon as he asked her to recall his words from an hour ago, she smacked his hand when she noticed him grin while sipping his coffee

‘Why? Hum date pe aaye hain.. koi interview ya viva ke liye nahi…’

Prerna tried to end the conversation and save herself from getting embarrassed by him, Rishabh giggled at her reaction and leaned closer on the table as he asked her another question

‘Okay.. toh date pe log kya baat karte hain?’

‘You should know na.. aapne toh kaha ki aap aaj kal ke ‘dating norms’ ke bare main jante hain..’

‘Well, date pe log usually jane ki kosish karte hain ki unke partner ko kya pasand hai kya nahi.. try to know their partner a little better..’

‘But we know all about each other already, so what else can we talk about?’

‘Hmmm.. right, waise as far as I am aware aaj kal date pe log sirf batein nahi karte… they also do a lot of other things…’

Rishabh smirked as a frown formed on her face which instantly turned into a blush when she realised the underlined meaning of his words

‘Umm I think we should leave… kukki ghar pe wait kar rahi hogi…’

Prerna sipped her coffee and tried to finish the rest of it in one go so that they could leave before she started grabbing the attention of others because of blushing so much, if she had known that Rishabh would be teasing her throughout their date she would have at least prepared herself a bit, she peaked at him through her lashes as he paid the bill while she finished her coffee.

As soon as she got up from her chair Rishabh wrapped his arm around her waist stalking his claim as they walked out of the cafe, completely oblivious to the glares that they were getting from everyone in the room, most of the girls were feeling jealous of Prerna as they eyed Rishabh while he didn’t even tear his eyes off Prerna, but there was someone who was fuming in anger, it was Anurag who had just stopped by the cafe to grab a coffee on his way back home and that’s when he saw Prerna get in Rishabh’s car

‘What’s wrong with Prerna, despite my warning she was here with Bajaj? Akhir kyun uss insaan ke saath involve ho rahi hai vo… aur mujhe itna affect kyun raha hai yeh sab… we are just friends, yet I am so affected with what’s happening recently… uss din Maa jab Naveen Babu ka rishta Prerna ke liye leke gai thi tab bhi mujhe aisa hi feel ho raha tha jaise aaj ho raha hai.. why am I so worried about Prerna and what happens in her life?! Suddenly vo meri life main itna matter kyun kar rahi hai…’

He muttered to himself as he driveD back home without waiting in the cafe for another minute and tried to decode his feelings.

Rishabh and Prerna’s drive to her place was short as the distance from the cafe to her house was not much, and Prerna was thankful about it because she was spared from all the teasing that made her blush like a red tomato, she was about to get out of the car when Rishabh caught her hand and stopped her

‘Wait.. I forgot something..’

Before she could question him Rishabh leaned in and placed a chaste kiss on her right cheek

‘I didn’t want to end our first date without a kiss…’

He winked at her and got out of the car to open the door for her, as soon as she stepped out Prerna saw her mother come out with Kukki and tried to compose herself and hide the blush on her cheeks.

Rishabh went on his knees and opened his arms so that his daughter could run into them and hugged her close to his chest

‘Papa missed you so much..’

He said in a baby like voice and earned a smile from the three ladies. Kukki broke the hug and kissed his cheek

‘I missed you too…’

‘Accha… lekin Prerna toh keh rahi thi ki aapne bohut masti ki?’

‘Haaan but I missed you… next time aap bhi humare sath masti karna..’

Kukki said excitedly and grinned at her father, Rishabh laughed at her excitement while Prerna just tried to hide her blush that kept creeping on her cheeks due to Rishabh’s gaze, she hoped that it would go unnoticed by her mother who was still standing there

‘Rishabh andar aajo na beta..’

‘Nahi maa.. kuch kaam hai, abhi jana hoga…main shaam ko ata hun Kukki ko pick karne..’

Veena nodded her head and walked back inside the house with Kukki who was excited to spend the day with her Nani and Mamma, once they were inside the house Prerna called Rishabh’s name and stopped him from entering the car. She walked to him and kissed him on his cheek and quickly went inside the house, by the time Rishabh could realise what she had done, Prerna was already on the doorstep waving back at him as he grinned and started his car.

Once Rishabh reached his office he summoned Mehra while pouring himself another coffee

‘I texted you a while ago asking about updates on Naveen, what’s the status?’

‘Sir I have someone eyeing him 24/7, till now he has not done anything suspicious, by far he has not even stepped out of the premises of Basu Bari, but if he does, you will be the first one to know about it…’

‘Hmmm.. anything else?’

‘Yes sir, I hope you do remember that the Publications Awards that are happening tomorrow, you are on the VIP list, shall I confirm your presence ?’

Rishabh rubbed his forehead in annoyance, he hated these functions but due to PR activities he had to attend them most of the time

‘Is it necessary to go?’

‘Not all sir, but as per my sources we might win the award this year and if you are not present then it might go to the Basu Publications.. so if…’

‘Okay fine... I‘ll be there … the last thing I want is to read those stupid press stories for loosing this damn thing to the Basus…’

Mehra smiled to himself as he left the cabin, Rishabh gulped the rest of his drink and got engrossed in his work. He wanted to finish it as soon as possible and get back home to his family to spend some quality time with time, simultaneously he also made a plan to trap Naveen and destroy him the minute he gets a reason to do so.
