Words are too prosaic to convey the gratitude that I feel today towards the CVs. This is the Bajaj that was promised to us. The shark that no one knew of. The shadow that destroyed people's worlds. The hunter who played with his food until it was time to go for the kill. And he has been delivered.
Bajaj was never whitewashed. People have it wrong. We only started getting his perspectives on things. And that is brilliant writing. What's the fun in watching people who can only do good things or bad things? When the story turns on its head if viewed from a different POV, that's fun.
When Bajaj was introduced, he was introduced through the eyes of the people around him. If this was a book instead of a show, we'd have seen his first appearance through the point of view of Anurag, then that Gujral guy and finally through Prerna's eyes. And when viewed through their eyes, he's a clear antagonist. But then, we get his perspective and the sides of him that are human. We're not watching Disney movies here that the people who are supposed to be bad can't do a single good thing. Bajaj is capable of good, for those he considers his own. He is someone who can take advantage of people's circumstances without losing sleep over it but also someone who loves his daughter to bits, shows trust, respect and understanding to his wife and her family.
The problem with his character, as far as I am concerned was the sugar coating. But today, the cotton candy around him has been yanked away and we have the Bajaj of my childhood. The selfish, ruthless man who oozed bitterness. Who caused the paradise of the woman he loves to topple over her head. Who f**ked her entire life with his Prerna ji, Prerna ji and hum dost hain. The one who terrified even Komolika.
But I think we should go back to what EK said when KZK2 was announced. The essence of the characters will stay the same but the story will not be followed to the T. And the question that arises now is.. what is the essence of Mr. Bajaj's character? Well, he's a manipulator. The very best one in fact. He's not a player of the game, he's it's master.
So he's running his merry little puppet show, pulling strings left and right. He has succeeded in getting Prerna to be comfortable in their marriage, so much so that she doesn't even have regrets about being a part of his family. I will not be surprised if the little psychotic breakdown that he had in today's episode turns out to be another act that he pulled on Anurag to either instigate him or to scare the daylights out of him. Anurag Basu said, "You've not seen crazy yet." And Bajaj schooled him. He was creepy, borderline psychopathic. He showed Anurag what crazy will look like. The way he slapped himself, the way he kept scolding himself: Bad Rishabh. That creepy, deranged smile he gave when he said he enjoyed watching Anurag in the ICU. That electrocution bit... That's the stuff of nightmares. That's crazy. That's what Anurag will deal with if he tries to pull crazy on Bajaj.
The message is loud and clear. Sit back Basu Jr. It's a game for the grown ups. There is no universe in which you can one up Bajaj. You can only try. And fall flat on you face. Bajaj is here to win. And win he will.
P.S: I hope I don't jinx this. I hope this character is handled with extreme caution. There's potential for glory here. I hope nobody screws this up now.
