It was actually our parent's decision. Since my family is here in India and Teejay's folks are from Canada, they couldn't decide where to have the wedding, so they thought it would be great to have a double dhamaka and keep everybody happy. Teejay has grown up in Vancouver, Canada, her family and her childhood friends are all there, so this one is for all her people in Vancouver.
Yes, this was the Punjabi side of the wedding, and as you know Punjabis like to bring the house down! That in itself was a different experience for me. We got married at the Gurudwara there, and those customs were new for me. The reception was nothing like our Bombay reception. When I had asked Teejay's brother what I should expect, he had said, 'bhangra, butter chicken and booze!' It was one big fat Punjabi wedding!
Actually no, and she is going kill me for it, because she wanted me to propose to her in a filmi manner in a romantic setting, where I'm holding her hand, aankhon mein aankhein daalkar and I ask her to marry me again. The first time I asked her to marry me was at Mount Mary's church and I had called a bunch of our closest friends. For the second proposal, she wanted a more personal one.
Would you have preferred a new wife? If yes, who?
To be honest, I'm a lucky man to be getting married twice — to the same woman. Bahut kum logo ko aisa mauka milta hai. I would love to marry Teejay many times over. There's no one like her in this whole world.
