I've made these questions very quickly...so don't mind grammar mistakes and stuff...please answer in a thoughtful manner. When I get more time...the questions will get more controversial and interesting...please reply with evidence and every week i'll post five new ones and you can all discuss them...this is for both bajaj fans and anu fans as you can see..i have tried my best to avoid fights between you all...please answer with words more than ya, i agree or no i don't...provide an argument...why your side is valid and the other is not...and the limitations of your side.

1) In the show, the Gay man they show, the guy who is dressed as a girl, before the leap, I think his name is Dolly...do you think this is an indirect approach from Indian Cinema putting forth their values of what Indians think of Gays and Lesbians? They are poked fun at, when it is not their choosing, but gentically and predetermined, its not their fault that they are like that...so it shows that they are inferior, more stupid, and poked fun at? Do you think this is a fair assumption?

2) The sikh family they show, is this a bit rude, and an attack on a minority group in India? As showing the boy, dumb, idiotic, and incapable of doing anything without making a fool of himself? Is this a fair evaluation of what a Sikh boy is like?

3) Is there an indirect hint the drama is putting forth...that girls who are in relionships prior to marriage will suffer a bad life...for example just look at the hardships prerna has faced?

4) The show is of people who belong to the upper class of indian society...i don't mind the makeup and the beautiful dresses after all this is television, and they have to cater to society...but this overemphasis on the upper class..when only a selective segment of indian society live the high life...the indian show has completely ignored the reality of india, that it is full of contradictions..the poverty etc...its like an ideal world..of the rich..and how there last names all belong to the upper class..eg...you know kapoor and stuff.

5) For characters that are evil..for example tanisha...they show her with short mini skirts and stuff...which implies the character she is playing..but don't u think that in the real world..that you can't judge a person by their clothes...how does this image reinforce stereotypes?

Hi Jess Good stuff well I have tried to write what I feel for your question ...😊

..hope these are ok 😃

Question # 1) Well for this gay issue I remember they portrayed dolly as a gay man in the show before leap. Yes, it could be the indirect approach from Indian cinema to give the real idea about what they are thought by Indian society. As we all know that peoples are not yet open to the issue of gays and lesbians. They still believe that they should be either crazy or terrible person who goes against the nature and societal norms. Thats why they are discriminated and made fun of. But it is proven scientifically that its not the fault of the gay or lesbian itself. It is related to their genes, which makes up their physiology in that way that they get interested or attracted in same sex. Well so in my opinion its not a fair assumption. I believe that they are also normal beings like we people and they too deserve to be given the right to be the way they want to beK

Question # 2) For this thing uhmm it could be taken as a rude way and attack on minority group in India and also in the same time it could be other way round too. Weve heard a lot of sikh jokes around and even Sikhs take it as a joke. It could be just for fun and to entertain people and nothing more than that. As far as evaluation is concerned well people knows that its just a humorous scene created by the cinema peoples. And in other hand some ppls may assume it to be rude too coz they have shown the sikh man and boy to be dumb. It depends in all what u think and how u take..but if we think than maybe its just a part of funK( frankly speaking uhmm I dont have exact answer ehehe 😃 )

Question # 3) Yes for this part I believe in what u wrote. Because Indian society is not yet advanced as western world where a girl would be able to spend normal life even without getting married and having babies. The serial itself is like a mirror of Indian society where they show what the society is like and what they believe in i.e for girls they will have to suffer hardships if she does what prerana didK

Question # 4) yes so very true. Serial is focused in only one part of the life. They have overshadowed millions of poor people and the hardship they are facing daily in India. We can say they have ignored the real face of India. Its entertaining to see all the good stuffs in serial and it does only focus in rich segment. Its kind of indirect discrimination towards peoples with low social status

Question # 5) It proves that Indian people are stereotypes. We have heard several times that a person cant be evaluated by outlooks but in reality people do evaluate specially from the outlook. For example in the show they show komolika evil who is always in heavy make ups with different hairstyles and dressups and tanisha too with short minis and strapless tops Kand whereas prerana is shown more in gentle dresses ( well from beagning I mean not after the leap only) sneha tanisha all are shown in different dressings ..It seems they want the evils and goods to be noticed by the way they look..

ok these were my ans ....😳

Hi Jessie

I will try my best to answer these thought provoking questions.

a. It is not just Ekta but the entire entertainment fraternity with very few
exceptions (My Brother Nikhil - those who have'nt seen it, its really worth
a dekko) has shown the homosexual community in a very unfavorable
light. They portray gays as people who have a ridiculous way of talking,
act in an overtly feminine manner. Yes there are some homosexuals who
are feminine but that is not always the case. There are many homosexual
men who have been successful in masculine professions. It is really a
shame that they have been degraded in this manner not only in our soaps
but also movies like kya kool hai hum and girlfriend. At this very time
they are fighting for their rights - the right to get married, the right to
live a respectable life in our society - and they need the society to give
them respect and support them not ostracize them and poke fun at them.

b. Like I mentioned earlier stereotyping any segment of the society -
whether it is on the basis of sexual preference, or look or appearence or
mother tongue/religion is a very wrong thing to do. That said I think
sometimes all of us make jokes on some section or the other of the
society on basis of their characteristics. Most of us in childhood have
cracked Sardar or Gujju or South Indian or Bihari jokes. I guess as long as
it is in good humor and not malicious and most importantly as long as
the character is not made to look like a total ass it is ok.

c. This is what I have the most objection to. Love and relationships are
the most natural and beautiful thing in a persons life. Ekta and all these
soaps cheapen the concept of love and marraige. They actually show that
the guy or girl has so little trust in the one they love. I know that I love my
fiancee so much, but more than the love we share, it is the trust between
us that is important. I know that I will trust my love more than anything
and anyone in the world. Ekta has also cheapened making love and made
it into just lust. What is supposed to be a beautiful connection between
two humans she has made into a one night stand where the guy sleeps
with the girl and leaves her. Don't all these producers realise that they
owe an obligation to the society, to the youth. Are these the values that
they want to inculcate in the impressionable youth of today. SHAME ON
YOU EKTA FOR CHEAPENING LOVE!!!!!

d. I actually do not object to this. The reason Ekta and other film makers
like Karan Johar and Yash Chopra use rich families is because their films
actually transport the audience into a fantasy world. One where there are
no monetary problems atleast. Millions of people watch these soaps/
movies to escape from their own problems. They do not want to see their
monetary problems reflected on screen. At the end of a tiring day these
soaps provide them with an escape into a beautiful world.

e. Like I said earlier any type of stereotyping is bad. I have a greater
objection to the fact that nine times out of ten they show the vamp as
being a working woman and the protagonist as a home maker. I truly
respect women who have made a conscious decision to stay at home and
raise their family, but is it fair to make the working woman evil. How
much sense does that even make? In this day and age when we want to
show women having equal rights and make them emancipated, these
shows serve to show just the opposite of what the society desires. Yes it
is absolutely fair to show a woman who is a home maker, but it is equally
important to show the women having a career. Like I mentioned earlier a
lot of young women are totally influenced by these soaps, they need to
learn the importance of having a career, the importance of having
monetary freedom and most of all the value of education. Instead what
Ekta shows is that the protagonist (Kasak) falls in love with her boyfriend
and gives up her education to marry him.

I guess I have ranted on for too long but honestly, with the morals and
values that Ekta's soaps preach I wish someone would sit her down and
give her a HUGE piece of their mind. Ekta as a veiwer I have just one
request PLEASE think about the repercussions that your soaps may have
on the society
