Dear SimranBibek and Respondents of the Post: Love is a beautiful emotion. But when the person you love brings you so much heartache that you cannot but help feel bereft of any trust on truth and true love, the better choice is to
just let that love and that individual be. And if I were to make a choice only between the two individuals, Prem and Kul, that are presently vying for Mukti's hand in the sacred bond of marriage, then I would say the better and ideal choice is Kul.
Kul accepted Mukti's sordid past as part of the package of having her in his life, without any reservations or judgment. He is also making a genuine attempt to understand her feelings, and love her for who she is. I am sorry to say, but I do think the cliche "you snooze, you lose" is apt in Prem's case. He did not love her then (i.e. five years ago), and he does not even love her enough now; if he did, he would have wanted her happiness over his own. Prem has always done everything for, well, Prem. He is still thinking about himself rather than Mukti's perpetual pain from having ever loved him. Has he ever thought about how the pain he has inflicted on Mukti's life has cost her her ability to so naively trust people in her life? Has he even once wiped her tears when she was miserable from loving him, a person who she thought was never going to reciprocate her love? Perhaps if there had been no five-year time lapse and Prem had not partaken in any plot to prove Mukti's rape case fradulent, I would have had a different answer about who Mukti should marry.
I honestly wish I could say that I would have chosen Prem were I Mukti, but the truth is that I would have chosen Kul. Prem is new to the emotion of love, and he is a rather unpredictable charachter. He has a volatile and malicious nature. If the love of his own biological mother could not change him, who's to say that the love of a good woman (i.e. Mukti) will? Who's to say his love would withstand the storms of life? Moreover, if I respected and loved someone as Mukti does Prerna, I would not want to hurt the one motherlike figure in my life by agreeing to a relationship with someone as Prem who has sworn before all that his life mission is to destroy Prerna's identity, well-being, and happiness.
Sincerely, Ek Umeed 😊
P.S. Since this is a drama, I would have to assert that I want Mukti and Prem to come together despite their past history and obstacle-laden path of love. And I enjoyed reading all of your responses; and you can bet that I did read all of your well-thought-out replies.
