They were supposed to do a jig on a dance show. But even before the curtains could rise, they were rendered immobile. Pooja Ghai Rawal and Amit Sareen were slated to be the celebrity participants in an episode of Boogie Woogie recently. However, while rehearsing for this Sony dance show, both succumbed to injuries that kept them away from the dance floor. As a result, the channel had to look for replacements. Urvashi Dholakia and Kushal Punjabi were then roped in. This episode of the weekly, produced by Javed and Naved Jaffrey along with Ravi Behl, is slated to air on August 18.
Tailing behind
Participants normally practice for three days before an episode is shot. Says Pooja, "I was rehearsing for the Kajra mohabbatwala track. While doing a swirl, I fell flat on the floor. There was a bit of discomfort but I continued with the rehearsals for the next two hours. By the time I reached home that night, the pain was unbearable. I had to seek medical help. The doctor advised me to do an X-ray that revealed that the tip of my tail bone had borne the brunt of the impact. There was no way I could dance the following day at the technical rehearsal."
The actress was advised rest and told not to lift any heavy objects. "Initially I was bedridden. Though it's been quite a few days now, I still have to take it easy and dancing is a definite no-no!"
Torn ligament
Sareen, on the other hand, was rendered out of action on day one itself. "I had rehearsed for two hours when I suddenly felt an excruciating pain in my left knee. I was to perform a tandav and after all those movements, I realised that my leg was swollen. When I consulted a doctor, I realised that my knee, which already had a light injury before, was aggravated due to the vigorous movements."
The actor had to undergo a scan that showed that his ligament had torn. "Obviously, it scared me and took me by complete surprise. I don't even recall when I hurt my knee and tore my ligament."
Sareen features in the Sony afternoon daily Risshton Ki Dor, while Rawal is seen in the Star Plus daily Viraasat.
