Hey guys,

I started writing my new fanfic that I had mentioned earlier today since I have a day off. Anyways, I know some of you are curious about how I write so much. Actually, I have a disk on which I save all my fanfics. I write a little in my spare time, and then I post it as a huge bunch. Anyways, I will be trying some different things in this new fanfic. Actually, this fanfic will reflect some of my opinions I have regarding certain shows (especially Ekta's shows).

I want you to know that there isn't going to be a love triangle with Prem, Mukti, and another character. In fact, I think that a guy and a girl can have a really strong friendship that does not necessarily turn into love. Also, I think Prem is a hopeless case. Motherhood and love are not strong enough to change him. In A Second Chance, his love for Mukti gradually changed him. In this fanfic, however, a single slap from fate will transform him in a split second.

I tried to take your comments from A Second Chance, and I will make my posts more frequent but shorter and Prem will have an attitude for a longer time. In all honesty, I feel a little more connected to this particular story. I want it to turn out to be much better than A Second Chance, so please give any suggestions you have. Enjoy!

Starting Over

PROLOGUE

This story takes place two years after Sneha learns the truth. After losing the case for the first time, Mukti and her father leave the city immediately before Sharad is punished for what he has done. After Sharad and his father are sentenced, Sneha decides to go to America with Kasak and Vishaka where she can take over the business there. In the meantime, Mr. Bajaj, Anurag, and Perna search hysterically for Mukti but they find no trace of her. Prem does feel a little guilty for what happened to his sister and Mukti, but he does not change most of his ways. Fed up with his behavior, Perna hands him his company and he resumes flirting with girls, partying at clubs, and giving everyone an attitude.

CHAPTER 1

Perna and Sampada started the day at their respective houses with the morning prayers. However, these prayers were gradually becoming formalities—almost everyone was losing their faith in God. Like any other day, Anurag, Sam, Perna, Mr. Bajaj, and Prem eat breakfast and head off to work.

For a change, Prem decided to pay attention to his work instead of his secretaries. He called his manager to get an update on what has been going while he was "busy."

Prem: So Mr. Mukherjee, what happened with the Mehta contract?

Mukherjee: We did not get that contract.

Prem: What? How is that possible? Who got it?

Mukherjee: Someone named, Vicky Malhotra, he's been the business for three years.

Prem: I've never heard much about him, and how did he win this contract?

Mukherjee: I've heard that his new manager is quite talented. She was in charge of this contract.

Prem: Oh really! Maybe I should hire her in your place if she is so talented.

Mukherjee: That's not what I meant.

Prem: You may leave…and I hope to see your resignation on my desk within an hour.

Prem was aggravated the whole day. Hence, he did not go to the club but went straight home. Mr. Bajaj along with everyone else was surprised to see him home this early. However, Prem ignored their looks and made his way up to his room. He was halfway there when he heard the door fling open. When he turned around, he saw Perna running into the house. She was sweating and nervous. "Why is Mother India so tensed, " he wondered to himself.

Mr. Bajaj: Perna, what's the matter, Why do you look so tensed?

Perna: Mr. Bajaj, I saw Jeevan today. I saw him by the shopping center. Before I could reach him, he drove off…this means that Mukti is in this city.

Mr. Bajaj: Relax Perna. I think you were mistaken. If Mukti was here, then why wouldn't she come to this house. We made a nationwide telecast, apologizing to her. There was no way she wouldn't have known that Sharad has been caught. I think you probably saw someone else.

Perna considered what Mr. Bajaj had just said. Maybe she was missing Mukti too much that she was seeing what she wanted to see.

Perna: Maybe you're right.

Mr. Bajaj: It's okay. Anyways, Gupta has invited us all to a party. We should get ready…Prem are you coming.

Prem: Yeah sure why not.

"Who knows, I might find some friendly company," he wondered. Little did he know, the whole family was in for a big surprise.

CHAPTER 2

Like any other party, everyone caught up on some gossip and got acquainted with new people. Prem regretted coming even though he was surrounded by several hot girls in their microminis and strapless tops. He was just bored of the same old games. The media did not have much to do. They were tired of interviewing the same business tycoons over and over again. While roaming around for something interesting to happen, one reporter lightened up when she noticed a figure entering the room.

Reporter: Look it's Vicky Malhotra.

She was loud enough to get everyone's attention. Even Prem was curious to see the man who had succeeded in defeating him—there weren't many like him. Vicky Malhotra was a handsome, dashing young man. He had the business tycoon personality that gave vibes of power. At the same time, his expressions showed modesty, making anyone comfortable around him. Most importantly, his eyes expressed affection and tenderness that could touch any girl's heart. In fact, several girls were impressed by his dashing looks and unique personality. In a matter of seconds, this newcomer was surrounded by a crowd of cameramen and reporters.

Reporter1: Mr. Malhotra, how long have you been in Mumbai.

Vicky: A few weeks.

Reporter2: You've recently won the Mehta contract, what do you have to say about that.

Vicky: This achievement is very encouraging to my new branch in Mumbai. I thank all my staff and especially my wonderful manager—Miss. Mukti Deshmukh.

Just then, Mukti, dressed in a beautiful white sari entered and joined Vicky. Perna, Mr. Bajaj, and Prem were speechless. Tears of joy were streaming down Perna's eyes. On the other hand, Prem was seemed a little annoyed, but he didn't know what was bothering him. Was it the fact that Basanti had returned and things were going to be as bothersome as they were before? Or was it because she by another man's side (especially since she looks gorgeous now)? Mukti apparently did not notice the family there. Vicky gently put his shoulders around Mukti and guided her through the little crowd. They made their way to some guests and greeted them. Perna finally walked behind Mukti and placed her hand on Mukti's shoulder. Mukti turned around to see who it was. Like Perna, Mukti was surprised to see her there. Perna took her face in her hands.

Perna: Where were you? Do you realize how much we missed you? Why did you leave…you didn't trust me…I promised I would get you justice…why didn't you wait?

Mukti: It's not that I didn't trust you…it was just that I couldn't bear to see you jeopardize your relations because of me.

Perna: Why didn't you come back when Sharad was sentenced?

Mukti: I wasn't ready to return to those painful memories. I needed some time to put my life back together and find myself. I'm sorry. I really missed all of you. I just had to do this.

Perna couldn't stay mad at Mukti. She hugged her daughter tightly who had broken into tears. After calming down, Perna and Mukti made their way to Mr. Bajaj who sweetly admonished Mukti for leaving and apologized to her for what he done. Mukti then introduced Vicky to her family as her boss and best friend. In the meantime, Prem watched the whole scene from the corner of the room. After an hour or so, Prem spotted Mukti heading towards the ladies room. He then stopped her on the way. Mukti gave a fed up look when she saw him. She did not bother to look straight at him or even greet him.

Prem: Heeeelloooo, Ms. Basanti…so you've finally come back…but this was bound to happen…after all how can you stay away from your sweet choti ma…anyways where were you for the past two years…well, wherever you were, it did you some good…I must say, you look very attractive…and you've found a decent man…he's pretty good looking…you guys look cute together.

Mukti finally gave Prem a stern gaze.

Mukti: Is your nonsense over…because if it is I've got better things to do.

She took a few steps past him and then turned around.

Mukti: I see that you haven't changed a bit…you're still the pathetic freak of nature that takes pleasure in taunting others.

Before he could respond to that comment, Mukti walked away. Instead of going into the ladies' room, she went outside through a nearby exit, and Vicky had spotted her. He followed her outside and found her sitting on a bench. He quietly sat next to her. For a few minutes the two sat there staring at the moon. Finally, Vicky broke the silence.

Vicky: I saw you talking to Prem.

Mukti: He hasn't changed a bit…he still loves to hurt others…I thought I was ready to face him, but now I am having doubts. Every time I see him, all those memories start playing in my head. I don't know if I can finish what I came here for.

Vicky: Don't say that. You have to be strong if you want to complete what you came here for. I know this is hard for you, but you have to fight it. It's going to get harder.

Mukti: I know.

Vicky: Mukti…I also think you should tell Prem the truth.

Mukti: NO…he never respected the love I had for him…he turned it into a one-night stand and threw it away like trash.

Vicky: I know what he did was despicable and wrong, but that doesn't change the fact…he still has the right to know what happened.

Mukti: I've learned to deal with how he treated my love, but if he criticizes or insults this truth, I won't be able to bear it for a second…Prem can never learn the truth. In fact, no one can—not even Chotima. As soon as I finish what I came here for, I will leave this place forever.

Vicky knew that there was no point in arguing with Mukti. He gently grabbed her hand, which made her look towards him.

Vicky: Whatever you decide, I'll support you all the way.

Mukti: Thanks Vicky. You've been a really good friend. I may not have been able to make it this far if it weren't for you.

Vicky: Come lets go home.

Vicky and Mukti got up and walked towards the parking lot. After the car drove away, Perna came out from the back of the bushes where Mukti and Vicky were sitting.

"What is Mukti hiding…what is that she is here for…and how is it all related to Prem?" she questioned to herself. "I must find out."

PS. This may be my last fanfic.
