Cezanne's karma
When contacted, Ekta Kapoor admits, "Cezanne will be playing the male lead in Kannu Ki Kismat, opposite Kannu. She falls in love with some other man but finally ends up with Cezanne." About repeating Cezanne, she says, "He is one of the most serious, sincere and dedicated artistes I have worked with. It's always a pleasure working with him."
In search of Kannu
Is it true that the character of Kannu is based on Ekta? "No, it is not based on my life," says the Balaji head, "But the character is a lot like me. She is a bad student in school, with no goals. She just wants to eat, be happy and go to sleep while her parents want her to achieve something in life.
And then she changes one day and achieves everything. In real life too, my papa (Jeetendra) has been my biggest source of encouragement." For the female lead to play Kannu, Ekta will be launching an all-India search soon.
Cezanne ya Hugh Grant?
Is it true that there are similarities between Hugh Grant-starrer, Two Weeks' Notice, and Kannu Ki Kismat? "Cezanne's characterisation is a lot like Hugh Grant in the film," says Ekta. Cezanne sounds equally excited.
"The role is amazing. I have seen Two Weeks' Notice and am very excited about playing such a character."
Open to baddie parts
How come the actor is content with just Kasautii? He smiles, "My character of Anurag Basu has made me what I am today. I am satisfied with my role and like doing one serial at a time. I am more keen to do big, meaty roles, so I have been selective about what I am doing. Now that I have played the good boy in Kasautii, I want to experiment with different roles, including negative ones they just have to be challenging enough."
Shubha's the girl
For a man who has several link-ups (he has been linked to co-stars Shweta Tiwari, Gitanjali Tikekar and Urvashi Dholakia), he seems very focussed on his career.
"I have always been very serious and committed to my career. People in Balaji can vouch for that.
About the Casanova image, all I can say is that I am friendly and jovial and people have interpreted that as flirtatiousness. I am not a flirt. Right now I am seeing Shubha (Verma). We like each other and are in the process of getting to know each other. If I like a person, I am open about it. Shubha is a sweet and lovely girl."
