Mujer, you better dont use your brains... go as the story goes... after i finish this ff, you can start thinking about Bani's character... in fact, Jai's too... because... some points about bani's character would have been mentioned earlier or if mentioned earlier, would have relevance later..

Bani is a very insecure person... nothing ever lasted for her... so far she had just gone with the flow of life... right now, when she needs to trust and believe someone who had behaved badly with her previously, she is finding difficult to believe it... the way to mend such a characteristic is to shower with love, care, affection, attention, trust and giving responsibility trusting them.... thats what jai is trying to do...

Part 27C

Bani sat on the floor and opened her cupboard. She wanted to keep all the things ready to start her work the next day. She collected all the drawing sheets, pencils, erasers, colors, etc. She made a count of them and decided to buy some more to keep a stock of things. As she was keeping her things back, her eyes fell on her diary. She stopped for a second and pulled out the diary. She smiled at it. It was her best companion at the time of happiness and unhappiness. For some unknown reason, she had neglected it. She opened and started reading the first page. A smile came on her lips as she read it. She went back to the memory lane to the day she came to Walia house in Mumbai. She had felt out of place for sometime, then she coped up. She then took a deep breath and flipped through the pages. She read the last entry. As she read it, several emotions crossed her face and mind. After finished reading, she kept the diary down.

Bani fell into thoughts. Many questions that she had asked herself that day had been answered. Still she had so many questions! Really, did she have any questions? Not really! The important questions were – Why did he marry her? And, Did he love her? He married her for aunty and uncle, that cannot be denied. Few minutes before, he spoke about his peace staying with her. Was he really content enough to stay with her? To live with her? This content will not be enough… not for the whole life… He was always her friend. Is he now? The way, he had been treating her for the past few days, it clearly showed that he cared for her… genuinely… But, did he love her? Her thoughts stopped. But, he always loved her in spite of everything and anything. Well, there was something more than the reason he gave her… What could be the other reasons? Were there other reasons too?

She took the diary and re-read it. Then, she realized something – She did not know about him… but she did not give her one hundred percent for this relationship. She did not take any step to reach him… she did not take any initiative to grow their relationship… she just stood aside and watched the happenings and let the things happen… She was not happy because she did not care to be happy and she did not know how to be happy… In the process, she made Jai suffer too… she shivered at the realization… Tears started to trickle… She closed the diary and dumped into cupboard and closed it. She stood and sobbed once. Then, she left the room closing the door behind her. She walked aimlessly in the corridor. Atlast, ended up in front of the study door. She opened and stood at the door.

Jai raised his head to see who the person was. It was Bani. At first, he was happy that she did not knock. That was definitely an improvement. But next second, a question arose in his mind – Why was she still standing at the door? Then, she entered closing the door behind her. She came and stood beside him fidgeting her dupatta. Jai turned his chair to face her completely.

Jai waited for her to speak. When she did not, he took the dupatta out of her fingers and dragged her catching her by her waist. "Kya baat hai? Already missing me?" He asked to lighten the moment.

Bani let out a light smile. She looked at him for few seconds and cupped his face. Jai was surprised by this act, but he did not show it on his face. The previous thoughts ran through her mind. Jai was completely sure that she was thinking something. He dragged her and made her sit on his lap comfortably. He kept his hand above hers and said, "Kitni baar kaha hai ki zyada socho mat… Hmm? Dekho, hamesha kuch na kuch sochke pareshan ho jaati ho." Bani made a smile flicker. Then he asked, "Kya soch rahi ho?"

She caressed his cheek with her thumb, her eyes focused on the spot where her thumb was. Suddenly, she asked, "Kya main aapko kiss karoon?"

Jai's eyes widened in surprise. He then placed his hand on her cheek and said, "Main toh tumse poochta nahin hoon. Tum kyun pooch rahi ho?"

"Bas aise hi…" and she hugged him bringing her arms around his neck. She moved slightly and pecked on his cheek. Jai was completely taken aback. He hugged her back and stroked her hair. He waited for her to speak. He would give his time for her to speak. She slowly released herself from his hug and started speaking. "Mujhe nahin pata ki mujhe aapse pyar hai ki nahin lekin aap mujhe bahut pasand hai; bachpan se lekar. Mujhe nahin pata ki aap mujhse shaadi karne liye raazi kyun ho gaye… mujhe nahin jaanna. Lekin aap mujhe kabhi chodke nahin jaayenge na… Mujhe khush rehna hai… Aapko der saari khushiyan dena hai… Aapke chehre pe wahi muskurat dekhna chahti hoon jo pehle tha… Mujhe pata hai ki aap mujhe kabhi nahi chodenge… Isliye nahin ki humara bachcha honewala hai… balki isliye ki aapko meri parwaah hai… Hai na?"

"Bahut…" Jai said softly.

"Main hamesha aunty, uncle aur aap sab se milna chahti thi. Lekin kabhi nahin socha ki Mumbai mein miloongi. Aur…" she smiled a little. "Aur yeh kabhi nahin socha ki aap itne bade ho jaayenge… Itne bade ghar mein rahenge… Itna bada business hoga… Aur shayad itne bade nahin huye hote toh shayad main aapko itni jaldi pehchanti bhi nahin… Actually, Thanks to Pushkar. Agar woh zabardasti mujhe exhibition nahin le aata toh kabhi aap logon se nahin milti. Aur… yakeen hi nahin ho raha hai ki aap logon ne mujhe pehchaan liya…"

"Baat kya hai, Bani?" Jai asked slowly.

Bani stayed quiet for a little. "Bas aise hi…" She then hugged him again. "Aapse baat karni thi." She hugged him tightly. After sometime, she looked at him and asked, "Doctor ne aapse aur kya kaha?"

Jai stroked her cheek and said, "Aur apne biwi ka khayal rakhne ko kaha…"

Bani smiled. Jai kissed her forehead and hugged her. Bani hugged him back without any inhibitions.

Jai spoke, "I love you, Bani. Aur yeh baat kabhi mat bhoolna…"

Bani released her hug. She said, "Pushkar ne phone kiya… main phir se kaam kar rahi hoon."

Jai smiled and nodded in acceptance. She had taken the decision, she was just informing him.

"Aapko sandwich kaisa laga?" Bani asked.

"Bahut achcha tha… Mujhe nahin pata ki tum khana banana jaanti ho…" Jai said.

Bani gave an embarrassed smile. "Actually, main jaanti hoon ki kaise banathe hain, lekin kabhi banaya nahin…"

Jai chukled. He placed his forehead against hers and said, "Koi baat nahin. Abse shuru kar dena…"

Bani smiled back. Her eyes fell on his table. Papers, files, laptop, etc… She asked, "Aapka kya kaam hota hai…?"

"Matlab? Main Company ka CEO hoon."

"Toh, aap kya kaam karte hain?"

Jai thought for a little. "Market research karna, New ideas implement karna, Financial reports, tenders, quotations, Sales, New Clients—"

Bani stopped him in the middle. "Yeh sab kaam aap karte hai, toh aapka employees kya kaam karenge?"

"In sabka detailed kaam karenge. Main bas preliminary studies aur final approval karoonga… Ek minute… tum yeh sab sawaal kyun kar rahi ho?"

"Bas aise hi… yeh jaanne ke liye ki mere pati kya kaam karte hai…" Bani replied as a matter of fact.

"Hmmm…." Jai nuzzled her cheek. "Tumhara pati ka job profile bahut hi bada hai… Bahut der lagegi samaj mein aane ke liye…"

"Dheere dheere samaj jaaongi." Bani said.

Jai laughed in reply.

That night, Jai made her do her work in the study while he did his work. When the clock hit ten, he forced Bani to wrap up her work to continue the next day. Bani whined, but agreed. The whole night, Bani slept in the safe comfort of him arms wrapped around her. She was getting used to his warm body around her. It gave a sense and feel of calmness to her mind.
