Chapter 3
The morning light hit on his eyes through the opened curtains. He snapped his eyes opened and stared at the ceiling.
Tony knocked on the door with the paper and tea.
"Good morning sir..'
'Good morning Tony…'
Before Tony left he said. 'Tony ask dad to get ready after breakfast I am taking him to the doctor .. I spoke to him last night. And you take cloths with you he will have to stay there for two days for the complete body check up…'
Tony nodded.
Jai tossed the duvet and got out reaching for the paper and tea….

Uday Walia protested at first then gave into his whims. After breakfast he asked Tony to send Bani to his room.
Bani knocked on his door and went in, Shradha running towards the old man.
Dadaji, where going? Shadhu wants to come..' she chided.
'Not know dear.. I'll take you out later now dadaji is going to the hospital with… well,' he threw a look at Bani.
'Bani take care of the office and tell Mr. Gulati to contact me in my mobile.'. He said looking at her. He did want to reach out and pat her cheeks but kept the thought to himself.
She nodded.
'I'll be gone for two days… take care..'
She nodded again. She did want to tell him to take care. But spoke nothing. She never conversed with him much. They understood each other Bani knew about that.
Bani turned to go in her haste she collided with Jai who had walked into his father's room. He steadied her and Bani moved swiftly from his touch.
Shradha saw him and followed Bani. Jai caught her hand. Shradha shrugged from his hold. Jai did not loosen his hold. He turned her around him.
'Why are you running away from me?' he asked softly, Surprising Uday Walia.
Bani had left the room in haste. She was not aware of the things happening in Uday's room.
Shradha stared at him.
Don't you like me? He asked again patting her small hand.
She shook her head.
Uday chuckled. "You never acknowledged her Jai how would she like you..'
Jai nodded. " I am sorry I was a jerk..'
Shradha did not understand the meaning of that. She looked helplessly at her dadaji.
Jai kissed her little hand and asked, 'friends?'
Shradha did not respond. "Come on yaar.. be a sport.. What should I bring for you when I come back with dadaji?' Jai asked hopefully.
Shradha shrugged from his touch and walked up to Uday Walia.
'Tell him Bachi what you want… he encouraged her.
Shradha shook her head in denial and ran out of the room calling for Bani.
Jai watched her go.
'Don't worry she will come around.. bahoth badmash hein bachi.. Bani has hands full..' Uday said straightening his shirt.
Jai took all his medical certificates and checked them and called for Tony.

Bani saw them leave the house. For two days she and Shradha and Kaveri Mausi will be alone in the big house. Bani had the day off since it was Sunday. She spent time with Shradha taking her out to little shopping and the beach.
On Monday leaving Shradha in Kaveri mausi's care she left to the office.
In the afternoon she came home and took her along with her in the office.
Tony would take good care of Shradha in her absence Kaveri Mausi was always occupied with her own thoughts and problems.
Shradha did make her day impossible demanding things from the office finally Bani took her and left in the evening to the Walia Mansion.
Kaveri Mausi was nowhere around the house when she returned. Bani went to the Sharma's enquiring about the Woman.
Arthi Sharma provided her the information. Kaveri mausi has handed the house key and told her she would be back the next day. She has some emergency back home.
Bani nodded understandingly. Before she left, Arthi told her Mausi was in a hurry that was the reason she did not ring her up…
However Bani did not like that. Kaveri Mausi should have informed her.

Jai sat at the back of the seat of the taxi highly irritated with him. He did check all the medical reports of his father and he forgot an important report. Leaving Tony to his father's side Jai left to Walia mansion to get them. The road was jammed and he was more irritated with the passing minute. After traveling for hours in the taxi on the wretched roads he reached Walia mansion around 8pm. asking to wait for him to the driver he got down and knocked on the gate. The security opened the door for him,
Jai put the key on the door and opened. The hall was deserted. He was on the way to his father's door he heard music and giggles coming out of the kitchen. He stood there for a moment and walked towards the kitchen.
Bani sang along with the song that played on the radio.
Shradha loved the song and asked Bani to dance with her. Since there was no one in Walia mansion and Bani enjoyed having fun with Shradhu she complied

Bani had tied her Dupatta on her waste holding a wooden spoon and rolling pin she joined Shradha who jumped up and down with giggles.
They were unaware of being watched. Jai stood a little back from the door looking at the mother and daughter with surprise and wonder. This was the first time he was seeing Bani in a different manner. He hadn't dreamed she had this side to her character. She always looked aloof and lost to herself. Well, this was a pleasant surprise to seem them bond oblivious to the world.
Jai did not know how long he stood there and watched them. The song got over and he saw Shradha looking at her to start another one..
Bani looked at the little girl and said panting, 'Bas bahoth hogaya… baki kal.. Now we will give rest to the radio.. you do know this is Tony's old radio.. He doesn't want any one to touch it..''
'maa.. once more..' Shradha begged.
'No.. now come and sit down and have dinner…' she ordered keeping two plates on the breakfast table…
'Shadhu no like roti…' she chided.
Bani's face reddened before she could give it to the girl her attention was diverted to the knock on the kitchen door.
Bani and Shradha turned to the door.
Jai saw her face register shock and then surprise, the next instant she composed her and looked at him.
'Can I have a glass of water?' he asked looking at her.
Shradha looked at him and then looked beside him. She moved towards the door in quick action to meet her dadaji.
Jai knew by the look where she was heading. He caught her on her way and turned her. 'Dadaji has not come…' he said looking at the small face.
He saw her face fall. 'Now have your food and be healthy to play with dadaji when he returns..'
Bani filled the water in a glass and handed it to him.
Jai took the glass slightly brushing her fingers.
Bani did not know what to do to leave him at the door or ask him if he had eaten dinner.. Suddenly she was angry with Kaveri Mausi she would have handled the situation asking him if he needed anything.
He drank the water and placed the glass on the table before turning from the door he lifted Shradha up and placed her on the chair, ruffling her hair.
Bani watched him go. Her attention turned to Shradha who stared at the roti placed in front of her. Bani smiled at the look sat beside her and pulled the plate towards her.

Jai got the papers from the first drawer. He checked them once again and turned to leave the room, he saw Bani standing hesitantly at the door.
They did not know what to speak to each other and how to start. Both of them looked lost for words.
Finally Jai broke the silence. "A report was missing I came to get them..'
He said waving the envelope.
'Would you.. like to have dinner…' she asked all of a sudden.
'No.. I'll have it on the way.. thank you.. the taxi is waiting.'
Bani moved away from the way he walked towards the door.
As he left she bolted the door from inside.
Jai stopped near the guard and told him to be alert and keep an eye.. He wondered on his way if she and the child was alone….
He sat at the back of the seat of the taxi and shut his eyes.
A picture of Bani and Shradha dancing floated in his mind. A smile appeared on his face….

Two days later Uday Walia Tony and Jai returned to Walia Mansion. It has been more than a week since he had landed in India. He had no idea to stay back when he started from London. He had informed Raj he would be back with in 3 days.
Uday Walia had another plan he wanted Jai to stay back and not return. He had not spoken to him about it. But he would do it soon. They had their own business in India then why would Jai work for some other company he thought. He needs to find the solution to stop him from going and at present he had no clue at all.

Bani was in the kitchen when the calling bell rang. Tony was busy and there was not a person in the house who came down to open the door. She wiped her hair straightened her sari and walked towards the door. Bani opened the door and looked at the stranger.
At the door stood a very good looking man. His eyes flickered opened at the sight of her. Bani felt the man was looking at her with out blinking.
She cleared her throat and asked, 'Can I help you?'
The thought that crossed his mind was to tell her come with me.. he shook his head to clear the strange thought and said, "I am Raj Malhothra, I would like to see Jai."
Bani took a step back as Tony came and stood before the door.
"I'll call Jai sir… take your seat..' Tony said.
Raj followed Tony looking at Bani thoroughly before he left.

Raj sat in the sitting room looking around the room Jai walked in hurriedly.
'Raj…. Man .. what are you doing here?' he asked unbelievingly.
'Jai, buddy.. He got up from the settee and gave a hit on Jai's shoulder.
'Its pure business on the way back I thought I'll see how you are doing?'
'I am fine..' said Jai. Sitting on the opposite side of the settee.
Raj looked at him for a moment and asked, "have you sorted your personal issues?'
Jai shook his head in denial.
Raj did not pursue the subject. "Well, when are you coming back?'
'Haven't decided.. dad's not in his best health.. so…. When are going back? Jai asked.
'The day after.. lekin buddy you know something I just met a wonderful female. And you wont believe my heart fluttered at the sight of her she is gorgeous.. I think I have fallen in love…'
Jai grinned. "Where did you meet her?'
'Here Buddy, this very house..'
'Here?' a scowl formed on Jai's forehead replacing the grin.
'Yes, she opened the door for me and something crashed inside me I am in love..'
Jai suddenly felt the urge to kick his friend.
There was no other woman in this house hold other than Bani .. Kaveri mausi has crossed the age to be someone's love at first sight.. but with Raj no one can say anything did Kaveri Mausi opened the door for him.. 'Jai knew he was crazy to think the impossible. He was thinking foolish. But hoped the woman be Kaveri Mausi.
'Where are you lost?' asked Raj.
Jai shook his head.
'Buddy she has such beautiful eyes.. she is..'
Jai did not want him to go on.. the conversation was irritating him. He blurted
'You saw Bani, Raj..'
Raj's face turned red. Blood rushed to his ears and nose.
'Bani? he sputtered. "the one you married? What is she doing here?'
Jai suddenly felt bad for his friend. Before he could say anything he heard Raj saying.
'That's not fair…you can't do this to me..'
