i am little early form my work i thought i'll update today... i have been getting very less comments considering that i am having second thoughts to continue this ff... for time being enjoy this update if you find it worth a read...



Part 4



Bani went home directly from the office. She couldn't take what he had said she being a nonentity. How could he? how rude can he be? She hated him for causing humiliation. She would not go to the office again. She wouldn't show this nonentity's face to him again. He can go to where ever he had come from. Bani Dixit will not step into Walia group of industries. She had decided.


The next day she dressed and went to her shop. Rashi was surprised to see her spend the whole day in the shop. She wanted to ask Bani why she was there but something in her face her made her stop asking her for the reason to be there. She enjoyed Bani's company. They were friends for too long. Bani considered her as a friend than an employee. Rashi was crazy about books as Bani both the girls discussed the books they read all the time.

Bani was in the shop every day which surprised Rashi no end. She was dying to know the reason. But something in Bani did not look right. She never mentioned her office or Jai Walia.

Jai back to his office after insulting Bani felt bad to face her.
Jai's gaze always fell on the empty chair. His ego did not let him pick up the phone and talk to her. He knew he was rude beyond words but he was not the person to say sorry. If she wanted she can come anytime and he would keep his mouth shut. Twice he had to send his peon to her to get signature. The man would return with the signature Jai would wait for him to convey any message from her. But the guy would leave handing him the file. The work load was more and the woman was stubborn enough to not come. Jai had to sit late night to finish the work.

Bani was enjoying her life again with her little shop and books. She almost forgot about the mean man she had ever encountered. She was happy Aditya Bali did not call her. She did not want to think how long it was someone calls her and drag her to the office.
Jai had a meeting the next day. The traffic was busy and he took a short cut to his destination. He was at the signal he spotted Bani and another girl. She was laughing at something the girl was saying. They crossed the signal and disappeared from his sight. Jai raised his car and headed to his destination.

It was on Sunday Bani was in her shop she got a call. Her face lost its color at the sound of the man. Rashi noticed her and went back to her work.
'Uncle…' she heard Bani sigh.
Bani's heart burned. This was it. She had her holidays her torturous days are back.
'Bani…' Aditya called her. Bani was snapped from her never ending thoughts.
'Yes Uncle…'
Bani my dear how are you? And how's the work?'
Bani was relieved he did not know anything about her not going to office.
'I am fine…' she cleared her throaty.
'Good.. this call is to invite you to my party tomorrow be there at 7pm. Jigyasa will give a call later..'
'Yes uncle…'
Aditya kept the phone and turned to his wife. 'I have done my job and it's yours…'
Jigyasa nodded with a smile. 'you know I'll always be on your side Adi….' She winked at him and picked up the phone.
Aditya smiled tapping her shoulders..

Bani was not excited going for the party she did not want to meet the man. She cannot face him after what happened. She will make some excuse she thought fidgeting with a book and lost in thoughts. Rashi noticed her lost in thoughts she pulled the book from her hand and said to much startled Bani, 'now you can think.... my book is safe..' she shoved the book in front of her. Bani's cheeks reddened.
'Sorry.. next time I'll not loose my self in day dreaming..
'Good……. Now tell me what's in your mind?' Rashi prodded.
'I don't want to go to the party to night..'
'you are not serious are you?'
'I am thinking about it I don't want to go..'
Rashi looked at her disbelievingly. 'You love those guys right? That's what you told me once or is it changed before informing me?'
Bani smiled. 'No.. I do love them but you know he will be there..'
'He who?' Rashi frowned.
Bani made a face at her. 'You do know what I am talking about?'
'No. honestly Bani I don't.' she said placing her hand on her hips and looking down at Bani. Jai Walia will go and come any where he wants that does not mean Bani Walia can not cross the street..'
Rashi it is Bani Dixit..' Bani corrected her exasperatedly.
'Did I not say that? Okay Bani Dixit… you will face any hurdles that comes by.. you are not a mice that will run into its whole any time the danger strikes…'
'Okay …. Okay… grand mama….. go and do your work….' Bani dismissed her before she went on to lecture Bani with foolish idioms and proverbs.
'Okay boss..' Rashi took her leave and disappeared among books.
The phone bell rang and Bani took the call. Jigyasa Bali was on line.
'Bani…..'
Jigs aunty….'
'Adi told you about the party right?'
'Yes…. Bani come soon okay.. and by the way I have arranged some one to pick you up from your residence…'
'You did not have to…' Bani cut her short…'
'Oh come on Bani… I have arranged with Jai he will come and pick you at exactly 6:45 okay…'
Bani's mouth left opened. She took time to react. Before she could protest the line went dead. Bani wanted to scream. Not him. Why the world was being cruel to her she did not know. she wanted to tell Rashi then thought against it. She couldn't take her another lecture..

Bani was dressed at 6:30pm. She did not want to keep him waiting. She couldn't take any more sarcasm from him. If he uttered any such things she would be landing in jail instead. She paced up and down in her living room. She looked at the clock after few minutes it was past seven. Where the hell was he she thought. Hope he get lost and not find her home.. the calling bell rang and she took a long calm breath. She picked up the purse and opened the door.

Jai stood at the door. With an expression less face. He looked at her and took a step back. Bani closed the door and locked and turned to him. 'Shall we..'
Jai turned towards his car Bani following him. She opened the door and sat down. The drive was in silence. She fixed her gaze on the road. Jai peeked her through the mirror. The stubborn woman was hell bent on not to talk. The silence was irritating. He wouldn't have come to pick her up it was not for Jigyasa. He loved the woman. He couldn't refuse her request. The silence in the car was overwhelming. He switched on the CD player. A track from hum tum played.

Bani was lost in thoughts again. Jai looked at her and thought how different was this girl from others he had met few women who would wait for a chance to talk to him. He has few friends who still debate among each others who will get him into the conversation. Here was the one sitting beside him who was behaving like he was invisible. In another twenty minutes they reach's Bali residence. Bani opened the door and walked into the house not waiting for him. Aditya and Jigyasa greeted her at the door. Jigyasa drew her in a hug. Jai watched them from distance and then walked up to them. Aditya shook hand with Jai. Jigyasa gave him a hug. Bani walked inside seeing many familiar faces. She got along with the guests. Aditya introduced Jai to few people who would be help to his business in future. Men carried on with their politics and business and women was with their fashion and trend.

Jai saw her enjoy with the people around her talking to them and listening to them. Was he wrong in judging her? Or is that all a pretext? Why would his father make a will where he was forced to marry a woman he did not know? Was he good at judging people? How was he with Bani Dixit? What kind of relation did they share after all? He wanted to find that out. He would in time he had promised that to him self.

The return to their residence was back to silence. Bani kept her mouth firmly shut. Jai threw her glance and drew his mouth in a thin line. Damn the woman. Would she loose her pearly teeth if she talked. He played the CD again.
Jai stopped the car at her residence. Bani opened the door and got out murmuring thanks.
She stepped on the pavement she heard the door open. She looked over her shoulder and saw him getting out of the car. She turned and faced him with a frown.
They stared at each other for couple of seconds and he cleared his throat.
'So? When are you coming back to work?'
Bani was caught off guard.
'I am waiting for the answer..' he said trying to conceal his irritation.
'I am not coming..' she said not taking her eyes of him.
'you promised ..'
'I did not promise anything Jai Walia… it will be difficult for me to work where I am not comfortable…'
Jai took a whole minute to speak.
'Alright.. I am sorry… I shouldn't have said what I said…' he said looking straight at her.
Bani couldn't believe her luck jai Walia apologizing ...high and mighty man…may be she could make him say sorry again.
'come again.. I did not get you…'she said rather seriuosly
'Woman you heard what I said. That's what you get and will get….' He snapped. He was already sorry for tell her sorry.
'Okay.. okay.. Bani couldn't conceal her smile. "I'll be there at 9 am day after tomorrow…' Bani knew the effort he took to apologize for that he should be awarded she thought.
Jai shook his head exasperatedly. 'You will be in the office tomorrow sharp 9 am..' saying that he left her on the pavement.
