Chapter 8
She had made it Jai, she has a long way to go but doctors say she juts might make it! Sahil touched his brother's shoulders and hugged him. Are you alright?
Walking to the glass doors of the ICU, standing and looking down at Bani, all bandaged and breathing mask on her face, she lay there sleeping so peacefully. Jai didn't respond to Saahil and his question. It had been almost 12 hours since the accident. The doctor had advised him that he could go in to see her.
Jai: when did you get out Saahil?
Saahil: yesterday, I flew in this morning; I have a lot I need to do bhaia!
Jai looked at his brother with a heavy weight on his shoulders, at least she was safe? Hugging his brother, it's good to have you back.
Sweetu Singh was the first class specialist from London at the Delhi ER and approaching the man himself: Mr Walia, can I talk to you?
Jai looked up to find a very young girl as a doctor, was she competent enough. Sweetu smiled knowing very well, most people found her younger than her 28 years and smiling shook hands with Jai.
Sweetu: Mr Walia your wife is stable but in a very critical condition, there was a lot of internal bleeding and Mr Sharma who is our specialist doesn't return back into the country until after next week. I am new at this procedure and would require backup for the operation. However, this facility is only available t o me in London or in Mumbai, whichever you prefer?
Jai looked at her stunned, "she is going to be fine though right doctor?"
Dr: yes we hope so Mr Walia, she is very critical and needs a lot of work done! "Money is no issue to you so I would recommend London as the best option."
Jai: whatever it takes doctor? London it is. He was in such a dilemma; he has fallen for the one woman who he shouldn't love. But why?
Arrangements were made and Bani was transferred to the Great Ormond in Jai's Private jet with all the necessary medical attention. It had been over 36 hours and Jai hadn't slept for a bit. Finally stretching his legs as Bani was taken in for the operation and they had advised him to wait outside.
Sahil had accompanied him all the way here and sat opposite his older brother looking at the fatigue so obvious on his face.
Jai leaned back tilting his head back and closing his eyes for a bit. Again the image of the huge truck came upfront honking really loud, but this time it wasn't his car in front, it was Bani. Stretching his hands forward to grab her before it was too late and Bani was gone. Opening his eyes in panic he looked around to see for the truck but only realizing he was merely in the OR of this big hospital. "oh Bani?" his head in his head and hands on his knees, he needed a miracle to remember each and everything and to make sure Bani was cured!
Dr Sweetu Singh had been together all the way with Bani making sure that she was stable enough for the transfer and making sure that she was in safe hands, made her way out of the OR, walking to find Jai hands on knees staring at the floor. God this man must love his wife so much she thought. Touching his shoulders, "Mr Walia, she is in the best hands there is, Dr Zee is the best in his profession and the best around in the world for these kinds of procedures," Jai looked up at the sympathetic look from their doctor and smiled weakly "thanks doc!" Little did she know that the main driving force where Bani was today was he himself? Dr Sweetu smiled back looking at Sahil, "you should take him back to rest Mr Sahil, he needs to sleep, we don't know how long the procedure will be and it wont be a short one.
Sahil smiled back holding his brother, "I don't think he would agree doctor," Sweetu smiled back, "I totally understand but he needs to rest for when she gains conscious and that wont be till tomorrow morning sometime."
Sahil looked at his brother now not knowing what to say and Jai without being told got up, "let's go Sahil!" Both getting up to leave! Jai stopped to turn and looking at Dr Sweetu, "thank you," hugging her and than leaving to go.
Sahil: Bhaia you wait for me out here I will get the driver to bring the car around. Jai hands in pocket stood waiting at the reception area!
Rano had stood there thanking God that her child had made it. The little frail body was still in the incubator but this time on its way to recovery. She didn't know who her angel was but she was thankful for whoever made that decision.
The next thing she knew was that the doctors were in and out preparing to operate and when Rano had asked on who was doing this "its okay madam, its all taken care of," was all that she was told. She didn't know how long she had cried thanking this angel, but "oh God, please one time just let me meet this person so that I can thank him or her!" It never failed to click to her that it could be Bani, Bani herself was in a tight situation as she had told Rano several times, it couldn't have been Bani. And her husband, he had vanished out of the blue, why he would come to help her in this crucial time. Who could it be?
Rano stood at the coffee dispenser waiting when one of the nurses approached her, "hi Rano, how is Varun doing now?" "his so much better," "thanks for asking," the nurse smiled, "did you hear they brought another Indian case from India this morning, a young girl involved in a pretty bad accident, apparently there was so much bleeding that they had to transfer her here for the specialist to operate on her," Rano didn't know what hit her but something was telling her this wasn't right, "oh that is sad, is she going to be alright?" "lets hope so" The nurse continued, "I think her name is Pani, no no it's Bani, yes the name of the patient is Bani," "very pretty young girl," "wonder what happened?"
Rano felt the piece of earth was seized from under her Her baby sister was in critical condition here suffering and nobody bothered to tell her. What kind of husband does she have? Her hot cup of liquid fell on the ground and she could have collapsed if not for the nurse supporting her, "Rano, what happened?" Rano looked at the nurse, my baby sister, my sister "where is she?" "Oh God she is all alone, who is with her?"
The nurse was confused as hell, "she is here with her husband and his brother Rano," "what's wrong," "Can you please keep and eye on Varun, I have to go see my sister,"
Rano ran the corridor from the children's ward passing many of the outpatient wings, waiting on the lift. Oh God this lift was just too slow, climbing the stairs down to the reception. Running like crazy! The staff knew Rano pretty good by now, as the unfortunate mother of the sick baby. And all of them took extra initiative to take care of her while Varun was here.
Rano gasping for breath as she stopped at the front desk: Bani? Which room?
The nurse looked up: Bani Walia?
Rano looked at her, Walia? Did you say Walia?
Jai heard his name and looking up found a young girl leaned of the front desk asking for him. Walking up to her "yes?" Rano turned to see who it was her face white as hell. "who are you?" looking at Jai.
The nurse replied to Rano, "this is Mr Walia mam, Bani Walia's husband," Rano didn't know what got into her and raging with anger she gave Jai a long hard slap across his face. Breathing hard and fast she looked at him her whole body shaking.
Everyone was stunned as Rano slapped Jai, Jai's hand was on his face "what the bloody hell," who was she and how dare she come and just slap him.
Rano: if anything happens to my sister, I will kill you samjhe tum!
Jai, finally realizing it was Bani's didi, with all that happening around him he had failed to realize that Varun was admitted in this very city as well, how small of a world, he was right in this hospital. "I?"
Rano: don't even bother saying anything, I know everything about you, I hate you from the bottom of my heart to put my sister through what you did. Why did you do it? Why? Why did you marry her if you were going to treat her like that? All she ever did was love you, Rano at this point had been crying, love you for who you are. She loved you so much that when you threw her out she was as well as be dead.
Jai stood there listening to what all he was hearing, only if he could remember the why part of the history? He knew he treated Bani bad, as it is he felt like trapped in a black hole, from falling in love with this woman and than realizing how he treated her like that. Why?
Rano was on fire, a mans betrayal, a sick child and than the one thing she had left was now fighting for life and death. "You men are all alike you know that, you don't give a damn to what you do and how you treat someone, as long as you are happy, that's what that matters to you!" "My sister doesn't deserve this you know; when you got into that horrible accident she was the one who without a thought or a question, packed and left to fend for you. Who didn't care or even wait to think what you had done to her. She just fled to be with you. And here she is again, why did you do this.
At this point Rano was holding Jai's front part of the shirt and was crying, what will I do, now that my son is healing my sister is sick. Why? Punching him yet not having any energy and barely hitting Jai!
Rano? she heard her name, how could she ever forget that voice, turning Rano almost fainted~
Jai turned from one to the other, that was it, it finally hit him. Everything fell in place! He remembered everything.
