Chapter 2

"I never thought that I would meet someone who was so hard to forget."

~ Anonymous ~

"Do you think that you can turn up one hour late for an interview and that you will still get a job? Do you think that its because your qualifications are soo amazing that I'll hire you straight away, without worrying that you have no concern for time? I don't think so." Jai shouted, he was well and truly worked up - he hated people who had no regard for time.

"Sir, I was late, because I was helping an old lady who fell down the mandir steps. I have a high regard for time and am extremely sorry for being late," Bani said softly.

"Aah, so I was wrong about you. Its not your qualifications that you want me to see, but your good deeds (laughing without humour), sorry Miss. Bani Dixit, but the real world does not exist on good deeds alone, and I don't need a Mother Teresa on my staff, so you can get out now," Jai said, glaring angrily at her.

Bani opened her mouth to say something, but thought better of it. She didn't need to work with a man who had no idea about human suffering, and doing the right thing. She felt tears prick her eyes, but hurriedly blinked them away - she was not going to cry over a stupid mans harsh words. She was sorry about the job, because it came with a good salary, and the money would have been more than enough to take care of both Rano and Pia's college fees. Now she had to get home and start cooking.

Jai Walia strode with great arrogance down the halls of his offices, he was on his way home and had spent an annoying day interviewing stupid people for a job that they weren't remotely qualified for. The only one that had been was that Bani Dixit, but she had no work ethic, so she wasn't needed on his staff. He got into his sleek black Mercedes and pulled away from the curb. He was heading home and still had a lot of work to do - he had yet to finalize the launch of his new business. As he slowed down at a red light, Jai caught sight of Bani Dixit waiting at the bus stop. She had on a light pink salwaar kameez, and had beautiful long hair, for a minute an image flashed in his mind of that long hair wrapped around him and those brown eyes filled with passion for him, their bodies twined as one, as they reached ecstasy. The car behind him blazed his horn at him, breaking the image in his mind. Jai drove off still thinking about that image.

Tose nainaa laage
Tose nainaa laage piya savren
Nahi bas mein ab ye jiya savren
Mohobbat to ek jaavedaa zindagi hai
Tose nainaa laage mili roshani
Tose man jo laagaa mili zindagi
Mohobbat to ek jaavedaa zindagi hai

Mohobbat ki hai daasataan zindagi
Mohobbat naa ho to kahaa zindagi
Mohobbat to ek jaavedaa zindagi hai
Tose nainaa laage

At home Jai was the master and everyone around him did his bidding. As he walked in his butler Tony came to take his briefcase and jacket. Than he would head upstairs, take a shower and change into chino's and a shirt - even at home he dressed semi-formal. Than he would go downstairs to have dinner, every member of the family would be waiting for him; his older sister Jigyasa, her three children - Ranveer, Sahil and Anu, Jigyasa's ex-husband and Jai's best friend Aditya, Daadi, Aditya's mother and Masi, who was like a mother to him. As he sat at the table, he noticed that Massi was missing.

"Jigyasa, where is Massi?" Jai asked.

"Jai Bhaiya, don't get upset, but today when Massi went to the Mandir, she fell down and hurt herself, so she is resting upstairs. Its lucky that a young girl helped her to the hospital, than she called me and waited with Massi until I arrived, but Massi is fine," Jigyasa said hurriedly.

Jai got up and went running up the stairs immediately worried. Jai did not care for many people in the world - he cared only for his family, but he especially cared for Massi, because she had brought him up since his mother passed away when he was seven years old. Running into her room, he saw her lying down on the bed, but she opened her eyes when she heard all the noise that he made. Her face lit up with a smile.

"Arey munna tum? Why are you running around like that?" Massi questioned from her beloved son.

"Massi, look at you, kya haal banaya hai aap ne? I've told you so many times that if you want to go to the mandir than take someone with you, I was so worried when Jigyasa told me that you had hurt your self," Jai said, scolding Massi. Massi smiled gently at him, and let him rant and rave, as he sat down on the bed, his tantrum over.

"Munna, main teek hoon, I was lucky that this girl came and helped me, she was getting late for her interview, but still she helped, when no one else would. Aisi log ab kahan milte hain? And she had such a pretty name; Bani,"

Jai's head shot up at the name that Massi had mentioned, could it be the same Bani?

"Massi, do you know her full name? I would like to call and say thank you," Jai questioned.

Massi nodded, "Haan, her name is Bani Dixit, she is such a sanskari girl, her parents have brought her up well."

After telling Massi to rest, Jai went down to dinner, but thoughts of Bani Dixit conquered his mind - so much so that he didn't even notice Sahil and Anu's bickering, he normally hated noise on the dinning table, preferring to eat in silence. After dinner he made his way to his study, where he filled a tumbler with whiskey and sat down to work - yet thoughts of Bani Dixit still conquered his mind. Since it was Massi that Bani had saved, maybe he could make an exception this time, as a thank you. Making up his mind, he pulled out her file and found her home number and dialled.

A superb start 👏 I read both the parts in a go. Truely felt for Bani here and am so glad that she held on to her dignity and quitely walked out from WI. Jai Walia was downright nasty 😡 I mean he acted like a hypocrite..all nasty when Bani told him she stopped to help someone, and now that he has found out that she helped his own Massi he wants to apologize or return the favour 🤢

Chapter 3

"Confusion is the first sign of falling in love..."

~ Anonymous ~

"Hello, may I speak with Miss. Dixit please?" Jai asked

"Which Dixit do you want to talk to, there are three of us," came the reply from the other end.

"Well, I would like to speak with Bani Dixit please," Jai asked again.

"Bani Di, there's someone on the phone for you…" screamed the voice down the phone, making Jai flinch. A few moments later, he heard her soft voice.

"Hello? Who's speaking," Bani enquired.

"Its Jai Walia ."
"Oh, what can I do for you Mr. Walia?"

"I wanted to apologise for earlier today at the interview and tell you that you have been hired," Jai told her.

"May I know why you have changed your mind?" Bani asked, with a feeling of happiness that she was finally getting a job.

"Well, I should have given you the chance o explain yourself, and the woman that you helped today, she is my Massi…."

"Thanks Mr. Walia, but I don't need your job, especially if you are giving it to me as charity. I want the job because I am qualified, not because I helped your Massi! I would have done the same thing for anyone, and I don't want to work with anyone as arrogant as you, or for someone who has no respect for another person, just because your rich does not give you the right to talk to whom ever want the way that you feel like it.!" Saying that Bani slammed the phone down, angry as much at herself than at The Jai Walia - who the hell was he anyway, thinking that one minute he could be nasty and one minute nice, just because it suited him. As Bani started walking away, the phone rang again.

"Hello?"

"Bani, you call me arrogant, but what are you? Having so much pride is not good, you obviously need the job and your pride is nothing but stupidity. Jai Walia never apologises to anyone, but I apologised to you because you helped my Massi," Jai told Bani arrogantly.

"That is precisely why I do not wish to work with you. You're not genuinely sorry or genuinely apologising because you really mean it , or because you think that you are wrong - you're apologising because it's the right thing to do since I helped your Massi. Don't phone me again! I will find another job, a job where my qualifications are recognised." Bani slammed the phone down.

She knew that it was stupid to turn down a job that was offered to her on a platter, but she could never work with a man that did not match her standards of morals. How arrogant was he, who did he think he was anyway - she never helped his Massi so that she could get the job and he still didn't even care that she genuinely was late for a good reason. He only made an exception because it was his Massi that she had helped. Bani stormed back into the kitchen and took her anger out on the food that she was cooking.

Jai on the hand was dazedly looking at the phone in his hand he wanted to feel anger, but all he felt was amusement and confusion - in all his thirty-five years,, had anyone ever spoken to him like that; putting him in his place. Bani Dixit was an enigma - in the office she was soft spoken, quietly listening to his tirade and leaving with as much confidence as she came in. Now, on the phone, she was like a tigress defending her honour. He was intrigued by her, but at the same time wary - he was never getting involved with anyone not after what had happened three ago. Now all he did was have discreet affairs and dated casually, always making sure that nothing ever got serious. Many women wanted to date him because of his status, his money, or his looks, but they were all after one thing, and that was a ring, which they were never going to get. He bedded many of those women, because they were willing, but he was not a man that planned on being tied down. He thought again of the phone conversation that he had and instinctively knew that Bani Dixit spelt danger for him and he didn't even know why.

Back in Bani's kitchen, Rano wanted to know who's phone it was, Bani ignored her, until she gave into Rano's pestering. "It was a khadoos's phone," Bani said without elaborating. This picked up Rano's interest, as her Di always had something nice to say about everyone.

"Kaun Khadoos Di? You seem angry," asked Rano

"Jai Walia Khadoos, that man has no respect for anyone, just because he is rich he thinks he can talk to anyone the way he wants," ranted Bani, feeling the stress of the day slowly evaporate as she ranted and raved at Rano. Knowing her Di, Rano let her sister vent out her frustrations.

That night both Jai Walia and Bani Dixit went to bed thinking about each other. Bani thought how arrogant he was, but he was handsome she thought; those piercing gray eyes held your gaze, he had a square jaw, which had started showing his five O' clock shadow, he had wide shoulders, an aquiline nose, but the best thing about him was his voice, he had a deep baritone, which held a hint of sensuousness to it, as if you were the only person that his voice was made for - it was a pity Bani thought that nothing nice ever came out of that mouth of his, except insult.

Jai on the other hand thought of her soft voice that held a note of gentleness to it, her eyes were made so that you could drown into their depths,, their depths so deep that you never wanted to leave. She had a perfectly sensual mouth, made to be kissed and her hair was beautiful, so long that it reached her waist, Jai could almost imagine running his fingers through her hair, feeling the silk, as at the same time he felt her body touch his…..NO, he could not think like that. Never again, not after what happened last time. He didn't know what this Bani Dixit had - she was not as pretty as the models that he had dated, but it seemed as if she had cast some kind of spell on him - it must be because I've not been with a woman in a long time Jai thought. But even as he slept, it dreams of Bani Dixit that tortured him.
