Desai buys evil eye beads for friends and family from Turkey
She has a fetish for wearing evil eyes to ward off bad luck. On her recent trip to Turkey with the cast and crew of Kasamh Se, Prachi Desai was ecstatic when she found the country was a shopping haven for the talisman.
Culturally beautiful
Talking about her weeklong trip, she says, "I'd heard a lot about the place, but when I actually went there, it was so much better than what I had heard or read about it."
Describing Turkey as something right out of a fairytale, Prachi adds, "The mosques are so beautiful. Also, Turkey has made lots of efforts to retain its culture and heritage.
The old forts and ancient buildings are well preserved. We shot at the Istanbul university, World Park hotel, Bosphorus bridge and the famous blue mosque."
Reminiscing about a scene they shot in a local cemetery she says, "I have never seen such a colourful and beautiful cemetery. It was just breathtaking. Not once did I feel scared or weird about shooting in a cemetery."
After their day's shoot was over, Prachi and her co-stars would go shopping to the local market. "Before leaving I had a huge list from friends who wanted specific things. But I ended up buying loads of evil eye beads for all."
Prachi picked up 15-20 evil eyes in the form of chains and bracelets for her friends. "What better gift than something that brings good luck and wards off evil?" she says.
Charmed
Prachi, who was introduced to the lucky stones by her mentor Ekta Kapoor, has been wearing them as a bracelet for over a year.
