Part 11:
Bani stared and stared at Rano, Maasi and her kids. She so wanted to go and hug them, let them know that she is their mother, a mother who was treated so unfairly by the ones she called her own. Tears welled up in her eyes. How was she ever going to forget that phase of her life, more so how was she ever going to FORGIVE the people who betrayed her and attacked her where it hurt the most? Life had treated her so unfairly, no, not life, it was the people around her, the same people who meant the world to her, people whom she loved the most, people for whom she could have done anything possible on this earth, people for whom she could have even died, people who just had to say the word to her to get it done but they suddenly turned into aliens for her.
Bani stood up with a fierce jerk. With anger and determination in her eyes and demeanor, she made her way towards Rano and Maasi. She had made up her mind to see her kids and to let the world know that she was no longer the weak, soft-spoken Bani but someone totally transformed. Someone who could be a threat to people who dared to hurt her again. This was a new world around her, a world where she was almost non-existent, a world where NOW she had to make her mark and make people aware of her new existence. This was going to be tough for her but she was adamant. She had set her mind and nothing was going to change it, absolutely nothing. Plus she had Dr Kapoor to support her, a friend who understood and was compassionate. Wasn't she the reason that Bani was still alive and breathing. Had it been for her so-called family, she would have been left at the asylum to rot. This thought brought the bitterness again, the sourness that nothing could change. It was still not easy for Bani to come to terms with what all had transpired but then she had to force herself to believe it coz it all happened TO her, WITH her and INFRONT of her. How was anybody going to explain that?
Bani kept walking, sure minded and forceful. She approached where Rano and Maasi were standing with the kids. They were looking at some clothes for the kids. Bani went right up to them. The kids were in their pram, a double pram. Bani knelt down and touched each one softly. They looked up and Bani's eyes welled up with tears. She couldn't hold herself. She started crying and dropped in front of the pram, holding it for support and at the same time caressing her children. Children, who looked up innocently at the crying lady, oblivious to the rest of the world, oblivious to the happenings around them. Two innocent angels who were supposed to lighten up Bani's world with their mere existence but were never allowed to. Bani's heart tore at the sight of them. They were very beautiful, in a few days, they had changed. Bani wsa at least content to see that her children were growing and they had people who genuinely loved them in the house. What they did to her didn't mean that they wouldn't love the kids plus Jai Walia had always wanted kids. He would never see any mistreatment in the house where his children were concerned. "Oh why couldn't he do the same towards me? Where had I gone wrong? Why the betrayal? Why did she have to endure the torture of separation from husband and kids?" Bani pleaded silently, all the while gazing lovingly at her children. The children looked up at her, cooing away. The slight and tiny movements from them tore at Bani's heart. She couldn't leave them again; she didn't have the heart to part again from them.
Rano sensed Bani's presence. She looked back and saw Bani near the kids. "Di?" a faint mutter escaped from within. Bani stiffened but remained there, without looking at Rano. Maasi heard Rano and turned in the direction of her attention. Maasi stepped forward but Rano stopped her. She wanted her di to have her time with her kids. Rano was helpless where Bani and her condition was concerned. To the world it seemed that Rano supported Pia and her actions when the truth was something else. Maasi was in the same frame. Both cried internally but couldn't show their emotions. They wanted to embrace Bani, tell her that they felt for her, they missed her, they knew about her innocence but the words just wouldn't form. They stood speechless and motionless, staring at Bani and understanding her pain. They allowed Bani to remain at the kids for a while but then it was time for them to return to the house.
Maasi stepped forward and this time Rano didn't stop her. Maasi indicated that they have to return and Bani looked up pleadingly at her. Maasi's control snapped and she started crying openly, dropping next to Bani and hugging her tightly. "Bani beta, please hume maaf kardo, hum tumhare liye kuch nahi kar paye" she cried.
Bani remained quiet. She was shocked, couldn't react. She didn't even hug Maasi back. She sat limp, emotionless, staring at nowhere in particular.
