CHAPTER 5
part 5:
Mausi: (complaining) Yeh Munna bhi nah! He told me he would be here in time for dinner, but like always, he is late!
Jigyasa: Shaant hoyae Mausi (trans: Be clam, Mausi), something probably came up that he had to handle.
Aditya: Mausi, aap toh khaaye. (trans: Mausi, atleast you eat).
Mausi: Nahi, i'll wait for Munna, and then i will eat.
Aditya: Teek hain, jaise aapki maarzi. (trans: OKay, whatever you say)
Just then the doorbell rings, alarming everyone in the WM.
Mausi: It's probably Munna. I'm going to go and give him a piece of my mind.
Jigs: (yawning) Well i'm going to sleep, Mausi. Coming Aditya?
Adi: Hain, chalo.
They leave.
Mausi opens the door and sees Jai, looking hot as always! ;) in a black business suit, his coat resting on his arm, and him holding his ears with an apologetic face.
Mausi: Munna!-
Jai: Sorry sorry sorry sorry, Mausi! I got held up at work!
Mausi: You could have called!
Jai: Like i said before Mausi, i'm sorry! I promise i wont do it again!
Mausi: (stern look)....teek hain. Come inside and eat. I'll eat with you.
Jai: (clears his throat) ...Uh, Mausi...
Mausi: Hm? Kya hua? Undaar howe. (trans: What happened? Come inside).
Jai: Mausi, we have company...
Mausi: Company? Kaun? (trans:who?)
Jai smiles and looks behind him.
Jai: Bani.... (he says gently)
From behind Jai, Bani appears dressed in a nice pink salwaar kameesh, that fit her body perfectly, showing her curves. Her silky long black hair kept out open. Her fingers fiddling with the edge of her duputta, due to her being nervous and shy.She keeps her gaze down at the ground.
Mausi: (smiling) Yeh kaun hain, Munna? (trans: Who is this, Munna?)
Jai: Mausi, yeh Bani hain, woh ladki jho accident mein thi.... yaad hain? (trans: Mausi, this is Bani, the girl who was in the accident...remember?0
Mausi: (her smile even bigger) Hain, mujhe yaad hain. (trans: Yes, i remember)
Bani folds her hands together and greets Mausi, who blesses her.
Jai: Mausi, Bani will be staying with us for awhile.
Mausi smiles and nods. She looks back at Bani, admiring her looks and style of clothing. She looks like an adorable girl.
Mausi: I am glad you are alright.That must have been a terrible accident........My son was also in it. Abh tumari taabiyat kaise hai? (trans: How is your health now?)
Bani: Ji...woh....main teek hoon. (trans:I am fine now)Thank you for asking.
Mausi: Beti, you must be hungry.
Bani: (low voice)Ji....nahi, main to hospital mein khaai-(trans: No, i had eaten at the hospital--)
Mausi: Phir tu toh thaaki hongi (trans: Then you must be tired)- Munna, i'll go and show (looks at Bani) Bani her room, i'll be back in a minute.
Jai: Ji.
Mausi: Chale, Beti?
Bani: Ji.
Mausi leads Bani up the staircase and down the hall. Bani's eyes wander around her surroundings. This place is huge, she thought to herself. So many beautiful paintings hung along the walls and beautiful potterys. Her eyes linger at the sight of the beautiful, sparkling chandelier.
Mausi: Bani, this is where you'll sleep.
Mausi takes her into the guest room, which was way bigger than the hospital room that she had to stay in before. Along with a huge walk in closet, king sized bed, a dresser, and a huge mirror, the room also had a balcony along with a pleasant view of outside.
Mausi: Is this fine for you Bani?
Bani: Ji, Aunty. This is fine. (smiles)
Mausi: Alright then, make yourself at home and go to sleep.
Mausi is just about to leave the room, but then remembers something.
Mausi: Oh, hain! You don't have sleep wear! Obviously you can't go to sleep with these clothes. I'll go and get something for you, teek hain?
Bani: Ji.
Mausi: Teek hain. I'll be right back.
Bani: Aunty-
Mausi halts in her spot and turns around.
Bani: (coming to her) Aunty, thank you.
Mausi: (sweetly smiles at her) No need to thank me. You are very well welcomed here. Aur hain, tum mujhe Aunty nahin, Mausi bholae saakthi. (trans: And yes, do not call me Aunty but Mausi)
Bani: (smiles) Ji.
Mausi closes the guest room door behind her and makes her way downstairs to the dinning table, where Jai had already started eating.
Mausi: Jai, Bani yahan?
Jai: Hain Mausi, woh maine Dr. Mathur nu kahae ki main Bani nu rakluonge. (trans: Yes Mausi, i had told Dr. Mathur that i will keep Bani with us).I'm sorry Mausi, but Bani has no place to stay. The hospital have tried to contact her family, but just can't seem to have a hold on them. And plus, the hospital can't keep Bani forever. She needs a place to stay, so i have taken the decision on letting Bani stay here with us. I hope, maine kuch galat nahi kiya.(trans: I hope that i didn't do anything wrong).
Mausi: (smiling) Nahi, Munna. tum kuch galat nahi kiya. (trans: No, munna, you didn't do anything wrong).Infact, i'm very proud of you. But, how long will she stay here?
Jai: Until her family is contacted and come to take her. She will stay until then.
Mausi: That's fine, but Munna, Bani doesn't have anything with her. She doesn't have any clothes or-
Jai: Mausi, that will all be taken care of. Don't worry. Now come and eat.
Mausi: I will, but first i need to find something for Bani to wear.
Jai: Okay.
Mausi leaves and goes to Anu's room. She asks for a pair of night wear, which Anu gives her without any hesitation.
Anu: But who are these for, Mausi? (after handing them to her)
Mausi: For our guest. She has nothing with right now, so for now she will need to borrow your clothes. You seem to be her size.
Anu: Okay, that's fine with me. But where is she? Can i meet her? (excited)
Mausi: Anu, meet her in the morning, it's getting late, you should go to sleep.
Anu: Okay, Mausi. Goodnight.
Mausi leaves and goes back over to the guest room and finds Bani sitting still on the bed, looking around the room in silence.
Mausi: Bani, yeh loh. This will fit you.
Bani: (takes it from Mausi) Thank you.
Mausi: Change and then go to sleep. See you in the morning. Goodnight, Bani.
Bani: (smiles) Goodnight, Aunty.
Mausi gives Bani a stern look.
Bani: (babbles) I mean Mausi.
Mausi laughs and bids her goodnight. She leaves and closes the door behind her.
Bani changes into the borrowed clothing and gets into the bed. She lays down thinking to herself, her mind full awake, not feeling a bit tired. Bani gets out of bed and walks out onto the balcony, wanting to gaze out at the stars. She leans her elbows onto the railing.
Bani sighs to herself. She was feeling so lonely and lost, but full of gratitude towards these people, especially towards Jai Walia. If it weren't for him, she would still be at the hospital, a burden to those people. Sooner or later, even if she wasn't recovered from her amnesia, they would have kicked her out, and she would have no place to go. Why is it that she couldn't remember anything? Anything about her life? She felt so....empty, feeling like a stranger to the world, and the world a stranger to her. She feels like a lost puppy in this big world.
She hears the balcony doors open from behind her and turns around and is a bit surprised by seeing the tall and extremely handsome man, Jai Walia staring back right at her. His brown eyes were so deep and entoxicating, she could just drown herself in them. Her heart leaps.
Jai: Bani, what are you doing still up? You should be sleeping.
Bani: Woh, mujhe needh nahi aaye. Aaph? (trans: I wasn't feeling sleepy. You?)
Jai: I was headed towards my room to sleep, but i wanted to check up on you first.
Bani: Main teek hoon. Thank you for your concern.
Jai: (digs his hands into his pockets, not ready to leave yet) What are you doing?
He walks forward and stands next to her.
Bani: (looks back into the sky) Just looking at the stars....
Jai: hmmm...
Bani: Don't you find it fascinating?
Jai: What?
Bani: Just looking at all these stars? Just looking up at the sky? Don't you ever wonder about it? I could just spend my entire day, just looking at it.
Jai: (sighs) I would do the same, but obviously i can't because i am a busy man, i've got a business to run. (he grins at her)
She smiles back. There is a moment of silence between them, which Bani finally breaks.
Bani: You were in the same accident as me, right?
Jai: (nods his head) Yeah.
Bani: i can't remember anything about it, can you tell me what happened?
Jai: ....Well it all happened due to the speeding drunk truck driver. From what i hear, he collided into the rickshaw that you were in. And i, i wasn't paying attention to the road and also collided into the truck. The two drivers, truck driver and rickshaw driver, died and-
Bani: We survived....but i have an amnesia. (sighs)
Jai: Yeah...(his face grim) But don't worry, doctors say that there is a chance for you to regain your memory, don't loose hope.
Bani: i hope it happens soon. (she wishes)
Again, silence begins to build between them.
Jai: (after another moment) Well, i guess i'm off to bed........... Goodnight, Bani. Go to sleep soon, okay?
Bani: Ji.
Jai: See you in the morning.
Bani: (nods her head) Goodnight, oh and--- woh....
Jai: Hm? yes?
Bani: (gives a thankful smile) Thank you for giving me, an ajnabi (stranger), a place to stay, i'm very grateful.
Jai: You are very welcome. And don't worry, soon you won't be such an ajnabi to us. (he winks at her)
Bani flushes as she watches her saviour leave the balcony and walk out of the guest room, her room for now.
Jai walks into his master bedroom with a pleased smile on his face. He strips off his clothing, only keeping his boxers on (😉 )and gets into bed. He switches the light off, darkness filling every corner of the room. He lays down and closes his eyes, thinking of only one person who was now occupying his mind and sleep......for very odd unknown reasons.
