Bani saw less of Jai Walia that week. His journal was out and he had seminar out of town. Bani felt bad for he did not inform her before leaving town.
On Sunday Rano and her father came to meet Bani. They invited her for lunch. Bani went along with them to her mother's house. She did not have any reasons to refuse.
Bani looked at the surroundings as the car moved to a posh area. He stopped the car near a 12 storey building. Ravi Bali held her hand and took her to the fifth floor to their flat.
Kiran opened the door and her face lit up. Bani forced a smile.
'Come on Bani di… I'll show you my room..' Rano pulled her hand and took her to her room.
They had a very beautiful home Bani thought. Huge and extravagant. Where as hers was a mouse hole… She loved her flat no matter what. That was the real home she had for all these years. Bani pushed the thoughts aside and turned her attention to her sister.
Kiran cooked lunch especially for her. Bani was overwhelmed with the affections they showered on her. Bani's eyes filled tasting her mother's delicacies and twice she choked while eating. Kiran's eyes filled. She kept staring at her daughter all the while. She ran with water when she chocked and looked frightened. Bani studied her mom silently and all the hatred and pain washed off at the sight of her. She was with full of love. Her eyes spoke volumes.
Bali and Rano studied the mother and daughter and exchanged smiles with out Kiran and Bani noticing them. After lunch they played cards and chess. Bani had great time with them.
It was almost five when she got up to leave. Kiran wanted to scream on top of her voice to make her daughter stay back.
Rano hugged Bani. Bali kissed her on the head and Kiran put her arms round her.
Bani put her arms round her mom and hugged her tightly. Kiran broke down crying with happiness at her acknowledgment. Rano and Bali blinked the tears.
"this need celebration..' said Bali…
'Come on darlings we are going out….' He hugged them and took them out to celebrate family day.

Bani was overwhelmed with emotion as she reached home. She decided to meet Mother Philomena. On Monday she called Braganza and told her she would be late for work.
Bani walked into mother's office. She closed behind her and ran to mother throwing herself to her.
'My dear child, what a pleasant surprise?' she put her arms round Bani.
'Indeed mother..' she mocked in her tongue.
Bani spent almost an hour in her office talking about her new family and her mother. Mother Philomena was happy for her new found happiness. Before she left Mother asked her to introduce her mother and family to Mother Philomena. Bani was surprised at the request she always thought they cared nothing for the people outside their sanctuary.
Bani left her office and went straight to the hospital.
Braganza heaved a sigh at the sight of her. 'Thank God! You are here Bani his highness had asked after you few times.'
'Oops!' Bani mocked. He did not have manners to inform her he was leaving town and now he was asking for her to do his bidding. She thought pettishly.
Braganza's phone buzzed and she picked it up.
"Yes sir, yes'. Bani heard her say.
'Bani Dixit his highness needs your service immediately…' Braganza teased.
'Hmm Braganza… humor sense is rubbing on you…' Bani chuckled.
'You are the tutor darling…' she grinned.
Bani walked to his office knocked and went in. he was checking a file. He put the file down and stared at her. Bani's heart skipped a beat at the sight of him.
'Where the hell have you been?' he asked.
'I told Braganza I'll be late..' she said rather hurt.
"I want you here precisely at 8am. Do you understand?'
'"No I didn't' she muttered.
"What are you mumbling about?' he raised his voice.
'I said yes your highness.' She said stonily.
Jai suppressed his smile.
'What did you want me here for?' she was angry and hurt. She missed this bully past a week and here was standing there and scolding her.
'Sit down.' He ordered.
'I am fine standing here.' She stood her ground.
'Come in here Bani…' he called her waving his hand and putting the file on the table.
He walked towards her and said, " I missed you Bani….I was in a rush to get back to the hospital and when I got back you were not here… where have you been?'
Bani couldn't believe her ears she stared at him.
''Don't tell me you don't believe me…' he said grabbing her hand in his.
She pushed his hand and said, Oh really! You didn't even tell me you were going out of town for a week.. You call me your friend and you just go away like that?' she accused.
Dr. Walia's mouth widened to a smile.
"You missed me?' he asked.
'Did I not tell you just that?' she was angry.
She was in his arms the next minute.
'Uh ho.. 'She kicked her for blabbing.
She pushed him away and he grinned. He looked very boyish and mischievous. He looked at his wrist watch and said, 'I am free for two hours.. Come with me…' He caught her hand.
'Where? I have got work..'
'What work? I am your boss, come along..'
Bani smiled at the enthusiasm.
'Okay, let me inform Braganza…'
She called Braganza and told her she would be away for an hour.
Bani and Jai were at the elevator, Roshni appeared.
'Jai..' called Roshni. She stopped before them with full of smiles.
Jai.. She ran and hugged him. 'Thank you.. Sweetie..'
Bani averted her gaze. Roshni acknowledged her in a nod.
Jai looked at Bani she refused to meet his eyes.
'Excused us Bani.. I have so much to tell jai…'
Bani nodded and walked towards her office. Bani was hurt. She did not like the feeling and she was crossing her limit concerning her boss. He was a good man. How would he feel when he comes to know about her secret feelings for him? Roshni had come on the right time. She had put Bani in her place. This was not right. She shall not get carried away. She would ask him to go through the files of the three candidates she had short listed. Bani walked back to her office in thoughts.
Braganza looked at her in surprise.
'Is everything alright?' the woman asked.
Bani nodded. 'Change of plan.'
Bani did not here from Jai the rest of the day. She finished her work and left her office at 5pm. Bani was pre-occupied on the way to the bus stand.
She was waiting for the bus a hand grabbed her from back.
'Doc…. What are you doing here?' she asked rather surprised.
'We had an unfinished business Bani, come with me…' he said propelling her towards his car.
Bani did not protest as the passers by looked at them curiously. She sat rigidly beside him.
Jai was aware of her mood. He drove the car to a beech restaurant.
Bani looked at the surrounding and said, I am in no mood to eat or drink….'
'Alright we will not eat or drink….we will talk…' he said getting out of the car and waiting for her.
Bani got out reluctantly.
He walked to the beech and Bani followed him.
Bani looked at him he looked thoughtful.
'Why are we here doc?' she broke the silence.
'Bani I need your help…' he said turning towards her.
Bani frowned. He came and stood before her. Looking into her eyes he said, 'I am in a dilemma Bani….help me….'
Bani looked anxiously at him. Her saucer eyes widened. 'Yes Dr. Walia..'
He took a minute to reply her. He cleared his throat and said, 'I have fallen in love with someone Bani…..'
Bani's heart broke into million pieces. It took her lot of strength to look normal.
Jai's gaze never left her face. 'I don't know what to do?'
Bani was quite. And was frightened, she did not trust her voice.
'Bani…. Help me….' He said taking her hand in his.
Bani shoved his hand and moved aside ignoring his piercing look.
'What do you want me to do? How can I help?' she was relieved. She sounded okay she thought.
'I have not told her that I love her.. do you think she will believe me if I tell her that..' he wanted to know.
'Why wouldn't she believe?' (What kind of an idiot is the girl? She thought. )
'Are you sure?'
'Yes doc… 'She turned to him. ' I don't think any one can reject you…. You are a handsome man.. 'She smiled which did not reach her eyes.
Jai smiled. 'I have another problem too Bani ...'
She frowned.
'I have to leave town for further studies… wouldn't it be too much to ask her to wait for me…'
Bani felt even sadder. He was leaving town. And he did not tell me…. Her face fell.
'What?' he asked looking at her face.
'You did not tell me you are leaving town.' She accused.
'I am telling you now. You are the first one to know….'
'Thank you very much for that mercy…' she said sarcastically.
'Come on Bani… tell me. Would she wait for me?'
'How would I know that?' she was angry with that anonymous girl who stole her boss's heart.
'What would you do?' he asked suddenly.
'Hey, where did I come in this? I am not her….' She was stubborn.
He shook his head exasperatedly. 'Pretend to be her for once.. .. What would you do?'
'I don't know about her.. Since you asked for my opinion I would wait because you are not a bad catch at all..' she mocked.
Jai's face fell. Bani saw his expression and said, 'sorry doc, I was just joking. I..Hmm would wait. Can I ask you something?'
'Yes?'
Why do you think marriage will spoil your chance to study further.. Marry her and go for studies…'
'That's not a bad idea. I don't know about girls. Would a wife stay with out her husband that long…..' he was doubtful. 'If she insists to follow him all the way,. Then what would I do?'
'Then leave her she is not worthy of you.' Bani grinned and then added, 'every one needs space doc. It is not necessary a wife should always stick to her husband like glue…. '
(You are much more mature than I thought of you Bani.. he was relieved at the thought.)
'I can't leave her Bani. She has gotten under my skin. I just can't get her off my thoughts….' He said looking intently at her. Bani had to try hard to look normal.
Bani was sure by now the girl was not Roshni.
'You are suddenly quiet' he said.
'I was thinking..' she said after awhile.
'What?'
'Nothing.. shall we go?'
'Bani I am surprised and little hurt….' He said in mock anger after awhile.
Bani turned her attention to him.
'Not once you asked me about the girl……'
Bani's heart skipped a beat. She did not want to. She doesn't want to know. Who ever she was Bani was not interested in her.
'Well doc, when are you going to propose to her?'
'I don't know… '
'You don't know…. Are you not going to do anything about it…'
'I don't know.. You were not much of help…..' he said finally, walking towards the car.
Bani felt bad for him.
'I wasn't? Doc wait…..' she ran after him and held his hand.
'Tell me how I can help…..'
'Leave it Bani… I am still apprehensive….'
'To propose to her?' she asked. Ignoring her own pain.
'Yes.' He said finally stopping in front of the car.
'What kind of girl is that Doc. She is making you nuts. Why wouldn't she accept your proposal? You are a very good man. Very compassionate and very handsome and.. What else…..' she raked her brain.
Jai couldn't hold his laughter.
'Okay ... Enough…. Those are more than enough.' He said drawing her close to him.
Bani slipped immediately from his touch.
No more.. No more Bani she warned. She is a brave girl she can get out of this infatuation. She promised herself.
Jai frowned.
Once they were seated his mobile rang. He got out of the car excusing him.
Jai got into the car after few minutes disconnecting the call.
'Bani I am taking your word…. Today I'll propose to her… you are sure she will accept me proposal?'
'Yes doc she will. If she doesn't which I don't think she will.. If she doesn't.. Come to me doc I'll marry you…..' she said mischievously.
Jai chuckled.
'You will accept my proposal then?' he asked teasing her.
'Yes. Under one condition…'
Jai frowned.
'What condition may I ask?' he asked switching on the engine.
'My blender and the clock will go with me as dowry….' She said looking squarely at him.
'Isn't that too much to ask?' he asked bewildered.
'Dr .Jai Walia… I don not compromise with my things. Where I go my things go with me….' She said pretty seriously.
'Agreed.'
'Good.. .'
Bani knew he was going along with her foolish banter. She was going to loose him to some girl she did not want to know. She was quiet on the way to her apartment.
Jai's gaze fell on her now and then. He wondered what was in her mind.

The car stopped near her porch. Bani saw Reshma standing in the porch. "oh My God!' she sighed.
'What happened?' he asked looking confused.
'You see a girl standing and staring in the porch….'
'Yes I see her ...' he said looking at the girl.
'Her name is Reshma…I lied to her about you…. When you cam e to pick me for the party..'
Yes?' he prompted.
'I told her you were my boss's chauffer…. Who by the way is deaf and dumb…'
He looked unbelievingly at her.
'Don't give me that look doc I told you about it the same day….'
He did not remember. He was sure. 'Why did you not tell her I was blind too….'
'I would have.. since you were driving the car I knew that wouldn't go well with her…'
Jai laughed throatily.
Bani got out of the car and walked swiftly to her apartment.
'Bani…..'
Bani ignored her. 'Bani I know you heard me and I know why you are running away from me… I want to tell you that your folks are waiting for you in there….'
Bani stopped on track and looked at her.
'Seema is with them… go on……'
Bani walked swiftly to her apartment. Reshma turned her attention to the car Bani got down. He was still parked in the porch and she saw him on the phone.

Bani was welcomed by her mom and family.
'What a surprise?' she said looking at her family…
"Where have you been?' Kiran asked.
'I am sorry for being late. I was with a friend.'
Bani then noticed her house was with full of flowers and sweets.
"What's with these?' she asked curiously.
Bali and Kiran exchanged looks.
'What?' she felt weird.
Bani we will explain. First go and freshen up and wear the dress we have put on your bed.
'Why would I want to do that?'
'Because its an auspicious day..'
'You are talking in a riddle… tell me what's happening here.' She sat on the settee facing them.. 'and where's Rano?'
'Rano is with Raghav… she will be in any moment.' Said Kiran.
Bali got from the chair walked up to Bani and lifted her from the settee…
'BE a good girl… go and get dressed… do not ask questions…'
'But…'
'Please honey trust us…'
Bani looked hesitantly at them. She then walked to her room and shut the door.
Her dress was laid on the bed. The dress was in lavender color, which was embroidered in lots of stones and sequences. She stood suspiciously for a moment and then decided to wear it. If they want to play a game she will join them too. She decided.
Bani was dressed in half an hour. She opened the door and saw Kiran, her sister and her step father wait anxiously for her outside the door.
'You look beautiful..' screamed Rano.
"Thank you…. And ma doesn't you have anything to tell me..?'
'You look stunning..' Kiran came and hugged her.
'What about you?' Bani turned to Bali.
He gave her a thumps up sign.
'Okay….. This salwar is quite heavy, now you guys have seen it can I go and change it?' she asked turning her back to them.
"No..' chorused her family.
She faced them abruptly. 'Okay.. Tell me honestly what is the name of the game we are playing?' she asked tapping her foot on the ground.
The calling bell rang and their attention turned on the door. Bali went to open it. Bani fixed her gaze on the door. Her eyes widened in disbelief at the people who walked into her tiny apartment.
'Mrs. Walia and her three daughters and her sons-in-law walked in. Bani's mouth dropped opened at the sight of the last person who walked in.
'What's going on?' she wanted to scream. Instead she stood like a fool in the middle of the hall and gaped at her guests.
Krishna Walia walked up to her and took her extremely cold hand in hers. 'Come here darling….' Bani followed her to the sofa and sat down with her. Bani looked at jai. He looked amused. She wanted to get up and grab his hand and ask him what in God's name was going on in here. Bani looked at Anu. She was busy talking to Rano. Jigyasa and Rashi were engrossed in a conversation with Kiran. Krishna Walia was talking intently with Bali holding Bani to her side.
This is it. Bani thought. She slowly moved from Mrs. Walia's side and got up.
'Bani where are you going dear sit with me..' the woman stopped her holding her hand. Bani looked helplessly. Jai suppressed his smile.
'Seema walked in with there with her husband and beamed at Bani and the guests.
Bali got up and welcomed Mr Sahay.
Krishna Walia turned her attention to Bani. She smiled softly at her and murmured for Bani to hear. 'My dear, I am so glad my son chose you as his partner..'
Bani's eyes widened and she stared at the woman. She had suspected something as such.. She couldn't believe her ears when she heard it from his mother. He was such a good actor she thought asking about her opinion about proposing to the girl…. She had been taken for ride. The whole family conspired against her.
'Bani.. where are you lost dear?' she asked smiling.
'I … er…' she cleared her throat. ' I need little water.. may I ?
Krishna Walia smiled and nodded. Bani was up immediately and rushed to the kitchen dragging Seema on the way, eleven pairs of eyes following them.
'Seema… how could you? You cheat… you should be on my side.. How could you conspire with them?' she asked little hurt.
'Bani… sorry Jaan.. I was excited when Jai called….' Seema said apologetically.
So now its Jai for her Bani thought.
" I don't believe this…' Bani muttered.
'Aren't you happy Bani?' asked Seema.
Bani gave her a blank look. She should be happy she thought. But she was confused right now. Her head is been swimming with thoughts.
'Bani…' Seema shook her from her trance.
'I don't know what to do… this is all so sudden and … I thought…. I don't know…'
'So?' asked Seema.
'What do I do? Just go along with them…. And keep my mouth shut and.. Seema. Seema….. I don't even know how to behave….' She threw her hands in the air.
'You are doing just fine….' Said, a deep voice from the door.
Bani turned startled. For the first time she found hard to look at him.
Seema excused and left them alone in the kitchen.
Bani fell silent she did not know what to say to him. Her heart beat raised fast.
Bani…' he called her softly.
She was quiet.
'Bani….'
"What doc? What did the girl say?' she asked looking at him after much of deliberation.
'I am here to propose to her…..' he said looking intently at her.
Bani held her breath.
He walked towards her and took her hand in his. 'Will you be my girl Bani ?'
Bani was quiet. When there was no response from her he said, 'Bani either way I win…' he grinned. 'You reject me I'll come back again… you promised…. You asked me to come to you if the girl rejects….'
Bani's mouth curved into a smile….
'So its yes….' He said drawing her close to him.
Bani pushed him. 'Your family is just behind this door doc…'
'So is yours…'
'Yeah so is mine…' she said smiling.
They heard a knock on the door and jai turned his attention to the door. Anu stuck her head. "Come on bhai….. All are waiting…'
Jai walked out of the kitchen. Anu came and hugged Bani. "Welcome to the family.."
Bani's eyes misted.
Jai and Bani exchanged ring in front of their families.
Two weeks later they got married.
Jai invited her neighbors and friends for the wedding. Bani was overwhelmed at his gesture.
Jai and Bani were exhausted by the time the party got over. Anu took special care to decorate their room. The room was decorated with Jasmine flowers and rose. Anu gave a final touch and walked down stairs. Bani was sitting with her mother in the living room. Anu came and grabbed Bani's hand. 'Come Bani … bhai is waiting…'
Bani looked rather embarrassed. Krishna Walia smiled at her. 'Anu almost dragged her to the room.
'Bani bhabhi I personally decorated this room for you….. This shows how much I love you and bhai…..' she said smiling.
Bani smiled.
Anu left Bani in the room. Bani felt exhausted. She wanted to change into something casual and normal. She had been decked up from the morning. The dress was too heavy and she was half tired wearing them. She sat on the bed trying to take out the duppatta from her head. Her bangle caught on the thread. She tried to take it out in vain as she tried her bangles got more in the web. Bani couldn't get her hand from her head with out spoiling the dupatta. "God! What I am I supposed to do?" she muttered. She wanted help and that too very soon. She was about to get up for help. Jai walked in wearing a white sherwani. He looked very handsome in white. Bani tried releasing her hand from the dupatta in vain.
Jai saw his wife with her hand on her head trying to release her bangle from the dupatta.. a smile appeared at his lips.
'What happened Bani? Hath sar par kyon hein?'
She was quiet for a while and then said. 'Come and untangle me doc…. I can't release my hand from the dupatta….'
Jai took his precious time to walk up to her. He towered over her and studied the mess. 'What do I get in return if I untangle you?' he was mischievous.
Bani couldn't believe her ears. Her saucer eyes widened, 'Nothing.. you get nothing….'
'Alright then…. I am sorry Bani…. I don't take any job where I don't get returns…'
'You are breaking the Promise Dr. Walia …. I clearly remember you promised to take care of your wife….'
He looked thoughtful.
Bani tried her best to pull her hand from the dupatta.
"Okay…. Be patient….' He didn't want her to spoil her hair. He stood before her and untangled the golden thread that caught between her bangles. Removed the pins from her duppatta and looked at her. Bani couldn't meet his eyes she lowered her gaze fixing her gaze on the carpeted floor. He cupped her face in his hand and looked at her with all the love and warmth in his eyes. He drew her in a tight embrace. Bani put her arms around him, and her heart swelled with pride. She thanked God for blessing her with a husband like him.

Mother Philomena walked up and down in her office. She had been waiting for her favorite people from the morning. They had informed her they would be in her office at 10am. Mother looked at the wall clock. It was half past 10. She stopped pacing the room as she heard the knock on the door. Sister Brigit stuck her head and informed.
'Mother, your visitors has arrived.'
'Yes sister send them in…'
Sister Brigit shut the door behind her.
The door opened Jai and Bani walked in shutting the door. Bani left jai's side and ran towards Mother. She caught mother's shoulder and drew her in a tight hug.
Mother Philomena's cheek colored. "child…. Behave yourself..' she said untangling her hand form her waist.
'Mother, its okay… he knows about us.' She said circling her hand around the woman.
Jai chuckled at his aunts discomfiture.
'But Bani..' mother finally gave in to her. Bani kissed her on the cheek. Jai pulled her away from the Mother and tucked her arm in his.
Mother Philomena giving him a knowing smile.
'Sorry Mother I can not control her' he said smiling.
"Yes son I know I couldn't foe 16 years.' She said smiling.
"mother…. You are complaining..' Bani was hurt.
"okay.. okay..' mother Philomena waved her hand. " now you are married child I would ask you to behave more maturely……..' mother Philomena stopped at the look Bani gave her.
"Mother I told him about me mother.. I am what I am I can not act in front of people I love and care……'
Mother Philomena shook her head exasperated.
'I love you. You do know that Mother?' she said eagerly looking at her.
'Yes child..' mother sighed throwing a glance at her nephew. Jai was thoroughly enjoying their arguments.
" I know Mother… you love me. In future I'll remember to act mature and serious. I know that's what you people want me to do..' she said sadly.
Mother Philomena rolled her eyes heaven wards.
.'Bani…..cut the drama.. You had enough to last for a week…' Jai said.
"Yes husband" she said politely.
Mother suppressed her smile.
Sister Marry came with coffee and smiled at them.
'How do you do sister?' asked Bani politely. Sister Mary was surprised Bani was always energetic and loud. She looked suspiciously at her.
Mother dismissed Sister Mary and turned her attention to them. Bani sat quietly and listened to their family talk.
Jai got up from his seat and said, 'we will take leave now Mother do come and visit us..'
"yes son' Mother Philomena was up from her seat.
Bani extended her hand and took mothers hand in hers. "Good day Mother'
"God bless you my child.' Mother waited for her hug. Bani left her side with a shake hand and turned to her husband. "Shall we". He nodded. They walked to the door. Bani stopped at the door and turned to look at Mother. The older woman looked at her intently. She opened her arms and smiled at Bani. Bani left Jai side ran towards the mother and threw her in Mother's arms.
Jai looked at them in astonishment.
Bani came back to his side and said, HA!'
Once they were out of the convent jai looked at his wife. Her face was lit up with smile and her eyes sparkled mischievously. He controlled the urge to take her inhis arms and kiss her.
What was that Ha for?' he asked once they were near the car.
"I told you she loves me more than anything in this world..' she said proudly.
'Not more than me dear…' he said provoking her.
'You may think so if it satisfies your ego..' she said letting go of the subject.
'Don't you dare give in Mrs. Walia.'
"I am a submissive wife husband…' She said facing him.
'When did that change occur?' he wanted to know.
'Few minutes ago…. You were complaining about me……'
'I was not…. I did not utter a word against you…' he caught her hand.
'But Mother said…..' she stopped in between and looked at him.
She assumed…' he filled in for her. ' she knows the real Bani Dixit. She was kind of protecting her favorite nephew from her clutches…' He said drawing her in his arms.
'And what do you want to do about it Dr. Walia?'
'I'll try not to get out of her clutches… witch' he cupped her face and kissed her.
'This is a public place..' Bani said Blushing furiously. She pushed him aside.
'I don't care..' he said grabbing her hand.
'I do..' she opened the door of the car and sat down.
Bnai felt on top of the world. She had craved for love and she got more than she asked for. She was in love and she loved him dearly. She had perfect family. His family dotted on her. She thanked God for the blessings. She looked at him with all the love and warmth.
'Why that strange look may I ask?' he asked while driving the car.
She shook her head.
'Tell me….' He did not want her to keep anything from him whether it was good or bad.
'Do you honestly want to know?' she asked looking at him.
'Yes tell me….'
'I'll?'
"Come on…' he prompted stopping the car along the road.
'I realized something lately that if I don't share it with you it will break my heart..'
Good God what must be it?
'Yes..'
'God!' she grimaced. She was actually frightening him.
'Dr. Walia .. I am so much in love with you that it tears my heart to not to tell you about it…' ( this line I have lifted from my previous ff)
He sat stunned for a moment. She looked at his stunned face and continued.. "There you see… I feel fine now… I feel like a ton has been lifted off my chest..'
He sweared and pulled her into his arms. Burying his face in her hair he said, "you actually scared the wits out of me Bani.. Can't you say things with out dramatizing it?'
She chuckled and put her arms around him.
'Well, what were you saying?' he asked rubbing his chin on her head.
"I do not want to terrorize you again..' she shook her head.
