Bani was startled. Her mouth fell open at the sight of the man who walked into the room and stared down at her.
He looked at her startled face and his eyes flashed open.
'YOU???'

'You??????' he couldn't believe his eyes. He walked to the desk towering her. He was a big built man. There was an aura around him. And she felt so small sitting on the chair she got up hurriedly.

'yes its me' she said gaining her composure.
'What are you doing here?' he demanded.
'I am sorry…. I …er………..' Bani tried to sooth the man glaring at her.
"Out ..' he said pointing at the door.

Ms Braganza who was back from her tea break looked from Dr Jai Walia to Bani Dixit.

'Dr. Walia…. What's going on in here?'
'Shouldn't it be asking this question?' he said throwing a glance at Ms Braganza.

'She is our new employee Dr. Walia. Did you not give me the permission to appoint a suitable candidate?' she was hurt.
'Yes I did.' He spat the words. "don't tell me she is a suitable candidate?'

Ms Braganza and Dr.Walia argued like she was invisible.
Bani cleared her throat. 'Excuse me doctor..'
Dr. Walia and Ms. Braganza looked at her.
'I am sorry for my actions in the morning… I ..'
'I don't like employees who lie shamelessly….' He said curtly.
"I did not lie to you sir.. but I was helpless…'
'Don't tell me you are the sole earner of your house and you have an ailing mother.' He smirked.

"yes sir…' she said looking straight into his eyes.
'Excuse me..' he hissed not believing a word.
'I was late for the interview because she was sick. And when I settled her I hurried and I didn't want miss the bus. But I was fifteen minutes late. I couldn't find a cab and I needed this job.. I did not want to miss this opportunity.' She breath less by the time she finished he explanation.
'Oh really .. what's so appealing in this job?'
'Pay sir.' She was blunt.
He was taken back with her bluntness.
After a moment he said. ' I don't like an employee who begins her job with trickery.
There was something about her he knew as hell she was taking him for a ride.

'I too don't like it sir..'
He frowned looking back at Ms Braganza who stood confused.

'Can I have a moment alone with you Dr. Walia?' asked the woman dismissing Bani.
Bani stepped out to the corridor.

'Dr. Walia.. I don't know what had transpired between you two, she is the only suitable candidate whom I have interviewed so far. She can meet with your requirements. take a look at her work she walked towards the desk Bani had left vacant. And showed him her work. She can do magic with her fingers doctor.
Give her sometime and if you can't get along with her we will dismiss the young lady.

Bani was in good spirits. She got the job and she did not know what had transpired between the doctor And Ms Braganza.

She went straight to Mrs. Sahay after work. She sat in her sitting sitting room dipping her finger in the pie Seema Sahay had served.

'Well Bani.. how much drama did you use to get this job?' asked the woman matter of factly.

'Ouch! You are hurting me…' she mocked.
'Cut it out… how much?'
'A little'. She said.
Mrs Sahay threw her a look.

'Okay… I had to mention the woman to get this job. But I regret doing it because she is not worth it'. Bani looked away from the woman staring at her.
'You mean your mother?'
' Yes.. and I did not want to.. but that doctor provoked me saying…… don't tell me you are the sole earner of your house and you have an ailing mother…' she mimicked him.
'I said yes and more blah blah and I got the job.'
Seema Sahay suppressed her laughter.
'Any ways I thank Mother Philomena.. if it wasn't her I wouldn't have gotten this job.'
Mrs.Sahay frowned.
"not now Seema madam…I am too tired some other time..' she said keeping the plate on the table. 'By the ways where's Raghav?'
'he is out with some friends.' Said Mrs Sahay congratulating the talent of changing the subject. Bani was at best doing that.

She got up from the settee and hugged Seema. 'You're a super cook Mrs Sahay that pie was sumptuous. Good night.. Bani walked out of her flat.

Bani was on time to her work. She was at the lobby she saw Dr. Walia walk briskly towards the lift.

He was at the lift a hand grabbed him from behind.
'Jai my boy..' said the man.
'Dr. Chowdary…morning.' Jai walia hid his annoyance.

'I read your article about Angioplasty my boy that was a good one…'
'Thank you..'

Bani got into the lift looking at them. Dr Mohan Chowdary and Jai walia got into the lift oblivious of her presence.

Bani was over shadowed by those two men. There was aura around them. They both were widely appreciated in their own field one was a pediatrician and the other cardiologist.
Bani stood in a corner studying them. Most of the things they talked were beyond her knowledge..
Dr.Chowdary was a huge man. She was staring at his back he suddenly turned and acknowledged her with a nod.

'Well my boy.. how about meeting us in the club at 6.30 pm.' Dr Chowdary asked.

'I am sorry. I am committed with some work next time perhaps.' Jai excused.
'Sur sure son..' he got out at the 5th floor.

Jai heaved a sigh unaware of Bani's presence.

BAni hid a smile.


Bani was busy with her work the intercom buzzed.

'Yes sir..'
'Come into the office…' Said a deep masculine voice.
He has good voice Bani noticed. Hope his manners are good too. She had quit two of her jobs Because she couldn't get on with her bosses. She hated flirts and they were outrageously flirting with her from the day one.. she hated such men and she hated to work under such people.

Bani walked along the corridor to his office knocked and went in..

He was seated behind his desk. He threw the papers on the desk and looked up.

'Good morning ...' she greeted him cheerfully.'
'What's so good about this morning?' he snapped.

Bani was offended at once.
'It's a casual way of greeting sir though nobody means anything is my guess as well.'

but i think instead of doing secretarial job she should join some drama company and can have JW as her hero in that. 😉
