Chapter 21:
(Let's say that JW in his anger caused such a sound when he banged the door that everyone had now gathered in the living room, except Tarun and Simi who had not heard a thing)
"Arre Binita" both Tarun and Simi respond simultaneously, each trying to gauge how much she had heard 😕 . Tarun was the one to first recover and responded as if nothing really happened
"Dinner ready?" Tarun asked the first thing that came to his mind, trying to buy some time.
"Yeah, Rano is just finishing the salad. I heard the door bang and so came outside to see what happened. I saw Masi walking upstairs as I came out of the kitchen. I then saw Krish play by himself and when I came to him I noticed you guys whispering something in this corner. So I decided to check what was going on here. What are you planning to tell and to whom?"
"Oh that…must be Jai, in one of his foul moods. You should know its normal for him." Tarun bit his tongue as soon as this came out of his mouth 😆 . He was sure this was going to raise questions.
"Is he normally this moody?" Simi chimed in, realizing that Tarun made a boo-boo.
"Not really. He used to be much worse. Post marriage, things had changed for him. He used to spend more time with the family, had generally lightened up. But then, things changed and he has never been the same. He has become more of a recluse, that's it." Rano responded not aware what the initial conversation was.
"Acha baba, I am exhausted for the day, lets do something fun while we wait for everyone for dinner. What's say?" Rano asked.
Sahil and Laxmi who were just making their way to the area where the others congregated immediately agreed. They spent the next few minutes deciding what to do and finally decided on some board games.
Meanwhile, upstairs…
"Munna, what happened? Why did you leave so abruptly?" Masi asked, concern in her voice.
"Because Masi, I am not able to take this torture anymore. It was different when Bani was not here. I had my memories and she was always with me in them. But now, she is so close, yet so distant. I can't even talk to he properly. H**k I can't even take her name. I am just frustrated. Aapko malum hai meine yeh dedh saal kaise kaatein hein. I have died every moment. I have been looking for her all over the place like a crazed man and guess where she was? She was living with my best friend as his wife, when he could have very well brought her back to me. You know Masi, he married her when she lost her memory, took advantage of the fact that she cannot remember anything. If he calls himself Bani's and my friend, wouldn't he have done what a friend does in such a situation, bring Bani back to me and let me deal with the situation. H**k if had wanted he could have told her the truth and then let her decide. But no, he back stabbed me at the time when I trusted him the most. And please Masi, don't tell me that I cannot be mad about this." (Jai was definitely in one of his moods.)
"Munna, maine kabhi bhi nahi kaha ke tum naraaz mat hovo. Lekin, jasbaat mein aake yeh na ho jaye ke jo pass hain who bhi haath se nikal jaaye. (I am not saying you cannot be angry. But don't let your emotions ruin what you have.) Why don't you calm down and we can talk this through, like old times? Please." Masi indicated the sitting area and proceeded to sit down on the sofa.
"Okay Masi, just because you are telling me to do this. Or else right now I could have strangled Tarun just like Pia." (haay mere Raging bull…tere is roop ke liye to hum tere deewane hue hain ❤️ 🤗 [:D/] )
"Let's not talk about her for now. Let's resolve the matter at hand. Okay? Ab shuru se bataon mujhe ki aaj kya hua."
"Well, Krish walked into my room this afternoon and then Tarun followed him in. At first I was happy to see him here, shocked to hear that he was married and had a year old kid too. But then I remembered how he had disappeared and I questioned him about that. So he told me how he had taken Bani to Mt. Abu and there she had more misunderstandings because I was constructing on this site. They were upset, and Tarun was not able to convince her to meet me. He then said that everything was set for Bani to move away and start a new life, she was even coming back to her old self." Jai tried his best to keep his emotions in control.
"I see, so far it looks like Tarun did everything in his capacity to convince Bani to talk to you. I don't see the problem yet."
"Well, he could have told me about Bani's plans?"
"I have first hand experience that Bani is very good at convincing people and giving them her kasam. Do I need to say more?" Masi said with a glint in her eyes.
"Well the one day she tried to kill herself. She saw Pia and my engagement announcement in the newspaper. She lost her memory due to this accident." Anger towards Pia again rising and quite evident in his voice too. (I wish you have already killed her honey)
"I know about this. Rano told me about it when she had called." Masi was trying her best to keep the atmosphere light.
"They then found out that Bani was pregnant and Tarun decided to marry her and take her away to the States. This is what bothers me Masi. He could have brought her to Mumbai to us. We would have taken care of her. Or he could have told her the truth and let her decide what she wanted to do. Or he could have just made up some story about her husband. But why marry her?" You could feel the anger building up in him.
"Jai, the first thing would have never worked. The day Bani would have regained her memory she would have left us with more hatred for you and the feeling of betrayal from all of us. And this time she would not have trusted even Tarun. You see the flaw with this plan?"
"Yes. But…"
"Let me finish Munna. Did you consider that he may not have told her the truth, because the doctors told him to? He could have just been protecting her from the hurt and the angst all over again. And the last one, I don't know if that would work either. I agree I don't like Tarun's plan of the marriage so much, but I have a feeling that he had reasons for this. Did he say something?"
"He mumbled something about her questioning the child's conception. Okay Masi, I agree that so far he did everything to protect Bani and my child and in some way did what he thought was best. But then why did he not inform us about her before? Why now? And why does he not let me tell her the truth now? He knows that I did not do anything wrong, then why not tell her the truth." Jai was calm once again, anger replaced by sadness.
"He could be bidding time to figure out his own feelings." Masi suggested.
That's it. Masi had just hit the home run. Could it be that Tarun had fallen for over time? And what about her, did she over this time fall in love with Tarun over the course of time? Is it possible? He did not want to even know the answers to his questions since he feared the worse. How would he live if this were true? What if she chose Tarun over Jai once she was told the truth? Would it help if she regains her memory, would she still care about Jai since he knows for a fact that his Bani loved him?
Seeing Jai thinking hard, Masi knew that her last statement conveyed her fears to Jai and also had an impact on him. She had finally made Jai realize the various possibilities. She hated doing this, but she did not want Jai to raise all his hopes only to be crushed again. He would not be able to come out of this setback again. With this she left Jai alone to think and reconsider his options.
