Chapter 19: Once they are inside, Masi is introduced to Simi. Masi was really please to meet this pretty girl (did I mention the person I picture as Simi is Aashka Goradia..the way she looked in Akela…modern yet very Indian. She usually wears capris or jeans with kurtis, tunics or t-shirts. Since she does a lot of social work she has a conservative dressing style, she sometimes wears salwars too depending on the occasion.).
While they are acquainting with each other, and introducing Laxmi to her, Tarun walks in. Bending down to take Masi's blessing
"Arre Masi, aa gayi aap. Kabse aapka intezar kar rahaan hoon."
"Rehne do Tarun, tum to mujhse baat hi na karo to acha rahega. Na phone na khat…kahan chale gaye the tum. You did not even consider the amount of tension it would cause us with your sudden disappearance."
"Sorry Masi, but the circumstances were such that I had to go. I am really really sorry…and I promise I will make up to you. We will stay here with you for as long as you say."
"Are you sure? I may just not let you leave." This light banter between Masi and Tarun was being observed by someone who was definitely not happy to witness it. Masi, you are still punishing me for the crime I did not commit since I could not bring back Bani, but you so easily forgave the person who is the sole reason I could not find her. How can you be so cruel to me, Jai thought. 😔
"Arre Rano…you promised me a surprise. Where is it?"
"Your surprise is here Masi, with me." Jai made his way downstairs with little Krish in his arms.
Masi looked up to see what Jai was referring to. She was so happy seeing Krish that she could not contain her happiness anymore. It took the form of tears and started flowing down without any control 😭 (She was seeing Jai after almost 1.5 years and plus seeing the kid in his hands made her very emotional).
As Jai walked towards Masi, Binita approached him to take Krish from his hands so that he could meet his mother figure without any disturbance.
"Mr. Walia. Krish ko mujhe dijiye so that you can meet Masi. I hope he did not bother you much while we were gone." Jai raised his spare hand (ala JW style) to stop her and said,
"No Binita it was no trouble at all. He was a little difficult to begin with but they we got along just fine." As he bent down to take Masi's blessings.
"Arre kitna pyara bacha hai. Mujhe do munna." Masi said as she stepped away from Jai. Hearing Masi referring to Jai as munna caused Binita, Simi and Laxmi to burst into giggles as they were the only ones who were unaware of this cute nickname for the high and might Jai Walia (the one they have met is the Raging Bull version). 😊
After taking the child from Jai, Masi was busy admiring Krish. She immediately noticed the wide set jaw and knew that this was her munna's child. She could not help thanking the good Lord that He finally gave her this opportunity to see her grandchild, Bani and Jai's child, the child she was not aware of. She could not ask for anything else today. She had been very harsh with Jai this past year and today after seeing Bani and Krish, she felt guilty about her behavior. But then again how was she to forgive Jai of committing the greatest mistake of his life…letting Bani go.
At the same time, she was happy that Bani was happy now in her new life. She looked very happy with Tarun, and wasn't that what she had always wanted to see. But then again, why couldn't Bani be happy with her own munna. She knew Jai loved Bani a lot, but due to circumstances was never able to fully declare his love, nor was he able to give Bani any happiness. Well for the time being she was going to enjoy her time with her bahu and her grandson as she was not sure how long Tarun planned to stay here in India.
While she was thinking about this, her eyes wandered around the room taking in the scene in front of her. Rano and Bani were no where to be seen, but it seemed like they were in the kitchen. Jai was sitting by himself, and his eyes were in the kitchen. It did not take Masi much to guess what he was thinking. Again she could feel her child's pain but felt helpless. She noticed that the desire she had always seen in Jai's eyes was more prominent now. And she knew why it was so, it was hard for him to live without Bani and now that she was in front of him, with his son, he was helpless as he could not do anything to bring his family together. 😭
Sahil was giving Laxmi a tour of the house, while he was taking their luggage to their respective rooms. Tarun and Simi were sitting in the far corner of the large living room and seemed to be busy in some conversation. As her eyes went back to them, she noticed something that brought some hope to her. Could it be possible, she wondered? Seeing how Simi had her hand over Tarun's and the earnest expression on her face, it did not take Masi long to figure out that this girl was head over heels in love with Tarun. What were they talking about and more importantly did he realize what Simi felt for him? What did Tarun feel for Simi and more importantly for Binita? She had a lot of questions in her mind and she needed some answers.
With a determined look on her face, Masi decided to talk to Rano later tonight. She then let Krish play by himself and slowly moved towards where Jai was sitting.
