He needs to get something...women-the wonderful species we are...need to be dealt w/by NOT being given attention. Abhi he is giving her attention...if he hadn't given her attention and left her wondering where he disappeared to...guaranteed she would've tried to find out or pulled her out trying to make sure he's ok.
