Bhoot Bangla

Gauri sat at the very front bench of her very first class. Her book open in front of her, hands folded on her lap as she sat ready for the teacher to come in any moment and start imparting his experience, education and wisdom with the class. Gauri looked around the class and smiled at the thought of being somewhere other than her grandmother's house, it filled her with so much excitement. Her heart beat wildly with all the possiblities that would propose themselves to her. She would get to meet and know new people, people who were not her relatives or servants and were not obligated to talk to her or entertain her when she was bored. As the classroom door swung open, Gauri felt a thousand butterflies flutter in her stomach. She pressed her lips together and interlocked her fingers tight to keep herself from jumping out of her seat in anticpation and excitement.

Shiv kicked the door open, and walked into the class followed by his gang of friends. "All freshers outside, on the field, now." He announced in deep husky voice, a sly smile spread across his face. Gauri's opened her eyes wide in disbelief, as all the students in her class followed orders without once revolting to such an absurd demand when class was suppose to start in less than five minutes. She had no choice but to follow.

Gauri heart beat so hard as she bit her lower lips nervously and contorted her fingers in weird forms. She had a funny feeling in her stomach and the sight of all the boys from her class lined up on the side in nothing but their underwear filled her with anxiety. She was fifth in line and the four girls before her had been made a total mockery off by making them either sing, dance or answer ridiculous questions. Gauri felt a lump in her throat as she walked up to Shiv who was plopped onto a desk, which was placed right in the middle of the field with a crowd of college students standing around watching the drama unfold. Gauri wondered if Ipshitta was one of them, she wanted nothing more than Ipshitta to be by her side. Gauri stood before Shiv, her head bent down, as he looked her up and down.

"Look guys, every year we tell the girls that for the first three weeks they have to put oil in their hair and wear plain punjabi suits only. Looks like this madamji has come prepared all ready." Shiv joked as everyone in the crowd laughed. He then placed his hand under Gauri's chin to lift her head.

This was the first time a man had ever touched Gauri. Suddenly her grandmother's words echoed in her mind, "Don't bring home a worthless man." Gauri looked up into his eyes and as though a reflex reaction to his touch she raised her hand and let it connect with his cheek. With his cheek turning red, his jaw dropped to the ground as the slap echoed across the field where everyone was suddenly silenced. Shiv placed his hand on his cheek and rubbed it, unable to believe he had just been slapped by a freshman. Gauri now, nervously bit her lower lip as she continued to look into Shiv's eyes. Both were confused as to what had just happened.

"What is going on here?" One of the proffessors came out onto the field breaking up the gathering as the students scattered about. Gauri stood still her eyes locked with Shiv's, she pleaded with her eyes for forgivness and Shiv still looked back with confusion written all over his face. Suddenly Gauri was grabbed by the shoulders and taken away.

"What the heck was that all about?" Ipshitta asked Gauri taking her to the side. Gauri shrugged her shoulder unable to answer, as she looked at Ipshitta with an expression of confusion mixed with remorse.

"I swear Gauri, when I saw you raise your hand and slap Shiv across the face, full bollywood style, I thought I was looking at you grandmother for a second." Ipshitta laughed. "And Shiv's facial expression, was just priceless, poor guy didn't know what 'hit' him, litterally. Here is an innocent looking girl and the slap was like that off a cruel old granny..." Ipshitta continued as she laughed. Watching her laugh, Gauri smiled at first and then started to laugh as well. It had been three weeks since the incident and Gauri and Ipshitta were still laughing about it. Everyday on their way home Ipshitta would recall the details and make them laugh till they had tears in their eyes. However, everytime Gauri laughed she felt a bit of guilt in her heart as she had never treated anyone in this manner before, and she did not even know Shiv. Gauri smiled taking her mind off of Shiv and interrupted Ipshitta's ramblings, "Ipshitta, let's go watch a movie!" Gauri suggested, excited, a smile spread across her lips.

"Gauri, there is no new movie out this week. And plus the only movie playing is 'Bhoot bangla' which we have seen five times already." Ipshitta blatantly turned down Gauri's proposal.

"Yah... you are right. We should just go home." Gauri replied sounding disappointed. Ipshitta looked at Gauri and thought for a moment then smiling she spoke, "Okay let's go."

"Really!" Gauri jumped up in excitement as Ipshitta and Gauri proceeded towards the theatre.

"Oh no! The line is so long... we will surely miss the first half hour of the movie." Gauri whined. Ipshitta shook her head in disbelief, this was going to be the sixth time Gauri would be watching this movie and she still could not bear the idea of missing the first half. "Oh look Anupam!" Gauri exclaimed having spotted Anupam stand third in line for the tickets. "Should I go ask him if he can buy tickets for us?" Gauri asked Ipshitta, her eyes pleading as she knew how much Anupam annoyed Ipshitta.

"No way. I would rather just go home!" Ipshitta said turning her back to Gauri. "Gauri...?" Ipshitta asked turning back when she heard no protest from her. Gauri was no longer beside her. Ipshitta rolled her eyes when she spotted Gauri standing beside Anupam in the line and requesting him to buy tickets for them.

"Yah sure Gauri, no problem. How many do you need?"

"Two."

"Who are you here with?" Anupam asked and Gauri pointed to an obviously annoyed Ipshitta who stood glaring at Gauri. "Muskaan chod hum toh unke guse pe marte hai,

Kaliyon ko chod hum unke pyar mein kaanto pe chalte hai.

Intezaar karege hum unka zindagi bhar,

Aakir kisi din toh kahege, ke pyar woh bhi humse karte hai." Anupam recited looking at Ipshitta, and making Gauri smile.

"How many tickets?" the ticket attendant asked in an annoyed tone.

"Huh ...haan, four." Anupam said, handing him the money and taking his eyes off of Ipshitta.

"Who are you here with?" Gauri asked, as Anupam handed her, her two tickets.

"Oh my friend Shiv." Anupam answered pointing to Shiv, who was now walking towards Gauri and Anupam. Gauri froze, her eyes wide open and jaw touching the ground. This was the first time she would be facing him after her encounter with him on her first day.

oh wow shiv! such a failure in life! I guess gauri can change that for him! haha I loved the shayeri by Anupam..that was hilarious! aww atleast gauri got herself an equally nerdy friend 😆 Awesome 👏 😃

wohoo next part is up [:D/] bahhahahahahaha she slapped him 🤣 🤣 🤣 Oh that was so freakin hilarious! And the reaction was totally out of some bollywood movie! Talk about some quick reflexes 😆 😆 Awesome can't wait to see how their movie affair goes 😉
