Khyatee, good post there...
As I see, the way the relation between Shiv and Gauri was portrayed and their beliefs about the emotion love between soulmates, it appeared that three words were not required to express that , and that their emotions execeeded far beyond what those three words would encompass. And Shiv said so, that kabhi kabhi unkahee baatein bahut kuch keh deti hain. So did Gauri believe the same. Yet she expected him to say I love you.... which only means, that somewhere she lost track of what exactly she expected out of Shiv in terms of emotional bonding, was it jus words, or more the emotion. As for the family and sahaara and all that, well yeah we know what she expected.
By saying the words I love you, Shiv yday, not only insulted his own beliefs and himself, but also... the bond they shared , he and Gauri. Infact it is not jus one person to be blamed. Both of them equally are to be blamed. Gauri , accepted Shiv knowing she was not his love, but yet always expected him to say so. She forced herself into his life, despite he giving her a chance to leave. She cannot hold him responsible at this stage. The man did try his best to lead a life with her and if she is to be believed to have sacrificed ( which I believe is completely wrong, she never sacrificed anything, nothing at all) then Shiv has sacrified far too much as well.
However, Gauri expecting him to say I love you is clearly a way of insulting his belief which she once fell hook line and sinker for( remmeber the Shiv, Gauri Vivan scene , where Shiv maharaj gave gyaan abt silent Love??!!)..
Shiv yes did utter the words, but more than cheating gauri, he cheated his ownself... by saying those words, he didnt mean, for he was jus washing his guilt. he believed saying those words to Gauri, would wash the guilt of having succumbed to the lust of another woman!
Both Shiv and Gauri deep down knew they care for each other, but Gauri by expecting him to say I love you and he jus blurting the words to assure her, were nothing but a grosteque display of how badly , a relation can be marred by such hollow words, credited to it!
As for Shiv, the words he uttered , I love you, were for a guilt wash , to ease the pain, of having given a confession of sorts to Gauri, so as to stop her from going away. He made a mistake, he cannot correct it, but he can turn away from it and so the words I love you to his wife, when he himself knows , he dosent mean a word!
Gauri is his need as a mother of his kids and a shoulder to cry on abt his jinxed fate and not the comapnion he wished. She is his soulmate so is believed, but he has not realized and not accepted as yet.
The words shouldnt have been uttered at all. With those three words, he has ruined all that was left of his jinxed life.
Kuch ehsaas, bina shabdon ke hi bayaan ho...
Unki gehraayi, lafzon mein nahin, aankhon se bayaan ho...
Dil ki baatein hai yeh, dil se mehsoos karne do...
