As an employee, one should use their discretion to address their boss. Others should not tell them what to do. It is up to the boss to tell an employee, how to address him. I call my bosses by their first name, including our CEO/COO. When I am playful then I go, "hey boss". They in turn call me by my name and if they are playful they call me in sweet endearment. 😃

Business and pleasure should not mix. This is the 'motto' and the protocol.
