CHAPTER-9
Next day at college- Manik reached college and found his friends waiting for him at the parking.
He came to them and said- What's up guys. Tum log yahan kyu khade ho.
Viren- Tujhe tera target dikhane ke liye khade hai.
Manik- Target. What Target??
Jay- Arey wahi ladki jise tumhe phasana hai.
Manik- Oh.
Soha- Manik ek baat phir se sochlo. You don't have to do this.
Manik- Soha relax. It's just for fun. Don't worry.
Shaurya- Kyu dar gaya kya Manik.
Manik- Manik Malhotra kisise nai darta.
Jay- Guys ... She is here.
Manik turned to the direction where Jay was pointing and saw Nandini entering the college with Mukti.
Viren- Arey yaar ye Mukti ke sath kya kar rahi hai.
Manik kept staring at Nandini and didn't hear what they were saying.
He came out of his trance when Soha called his name.
Manik- Haan...
Soha - Guys let's get going now. See you in the canteen after the lectures.
Everyone agreed and went to their respective classes.
Manik, Viren, Priya and Jay were in 3rd year and Soha was in 2nd year along with Shaurya, Niyati and Khushi.
Nandini was walking in the corridor with Mukti when Nandini said.
Nandini- Thanks Mukti for helping me again by dropping me to college.
Mukti- Choti. Tu fir se shuru hogayi.
Nandini- OK OK sorry...
Mukti- Acha chal bye. See you after the class.
Nandini- Ya. Bye.
Nandini reached the class and the professor came and started the lecture.
Nandini was engrossed in the class whereas Soha was throwing mean looks at her.
The professor finished the lecture and informed the students that inter-college competitions are fast approaching and there would be various competitions in which they all have to take part.
Professor- Students, you have to participate in pairs i.e. one junior with one senior.
So come-on everyone write your names on the chits kept at the table over here and keep it in the bowl next to it.
Everyone wrote their names on the provided chits and folded the chits and kept it in the bowl.
Professor- The seniors will come and select one chit and the student in the chit will be paired with that senior.
He continued further -
There will be two competitions . One will be a quiz competition and another a dance competition.
First for the quiz competition, he called the seniors one by one.
First came Dhruv( He was in the Manik's class).
He picked up the chit and his face lit up seeing the name.
No points for guessing who it was.
Dhruv said- Nandini.
Nandini felt happy that she got paired with the topper of the college for the quiz competition.
Cabir got Priya
Mukti got Soha and the list continued.
Next came the turn for the dance competition.
Mukti got Shaurya.
Cabir got Niyati
Viren got Soha and so on.
Soha felt bad that she didn't got paired with Manik. She was curious to know who would be paired with Manik.
Then came Manik . He picked up a chit and smirked and said- NANDINI.
Nandini was hell shocked. She didn't expect that she would be paired with Manik.
Dhruv didn't participate in the dance performance and given his excellent academic performance, the professor considered his request.
After the pairing got over, the professor said-
So students , you all will have to give your 100% . We can't afford to loose this competition.
Your super seniors have never let the college down. I expect the same from you.
Before going to the competition you all will have an intra college competition and the best pairs will be shortlisted to enter the main competition.
So you all have one week to prepare for it.
All the best. Start the prepations ASAP.
Saying this he left the class.
Everyone started discussion about the competition.
Soha was fuming in anger that Manik got paired with Nandini and not her.
But Nandini on the other side wanted to withdraw her name from the dance competition.
She immediately rushed out to request the professor that she doesn't want to take part in the competition.
