CHAPTER 1 (B) MY SANGEET CEREMONY
I stormed inside the washroom to take shower leaving both my so-called best friends behind me who were laughing like maniacs after my unusual encounter with Nandini in towel... After having my shower we all went to have lunch. I was very self-conscious after the haldi ceremony and some girls now were openly trying to flirt with me. However, I was restraining them after all I was now a committed one-woman man. I enquired from my mom as to when was Ridhima coming, well she is my elder sister and was married to Siddarth. She was settled in Los Angeles and had the most adorable daughter my sweetheart Samaira. It has been rightly said, ''Think of the Devil and the Devil appears'... my evil sister Ridhima with Siddarth a.k.a. JKG had arrived... Yeah Sid was an ideal husband, the fact is only he had the audacity to handle my monstrous sister whom I loved so much and hated a bit too... You wanna know why, you'll know it soon. Everyone was narrating my plight to my sister and they all had a good time, however it was only increasing the number of frowns on my forehead... Samaira was sitting in my lap and after observing my frowns she could make out that everyone was irritating me. She squinted her eyebrows and pouted her lips.. Samaira- Dunt (don't) truble (trouble) my Mama, I will protet (protect) him flom (from) you all...
I was so proud of my sweetheart and happy too and gave her 2 fat kisses on her chubby cheeks . But, how could my sister back out... Ridhima - Well brother its just the start, its my turn to take revenge coz you troubled me a lot in my wedding... 2nd FUNCTION: FAMILY SANGEET VENUE: HOTEL TAJ BANQUET HALL Since our wedding was organized in such a short span of time we had decided to have a family sangeet and a very homely set-up was arranged. It was a very private affair and hence only family, close friends and important guests were a part of it. I had asked my friends thousand times as to what they had in mind for sangeet but they all just turned their backs to me and left me to my imagination. [Sitting Arrangements for guests...]
How on earth my superb family forgot that in all sangeet ceremonies the bride and the groom sit together and here we were sitting in the same area but with all ladies and guests hovering on us and were the L.O.C.(Line of Control) between me and Nandini... I couldn't even speak to Nandini for a minute... [Place where Manik and Nandini were sitting...]
Hold on I forgot to tell you that she looked amazing in her light green lehenga with kundan jewelry and minimal make-up... I just loved the way she always dressed up so elegantly. Our hosts for tonight were Cabir and Anusha who were giving me a feeling that there might be some trouble round the corner. Cabir- Hello everyone I am sure you had a gala time in the Haldi ceremony... Well many of you must be wondering as to why the wedding is happening on such a short notice... This even left me a bit startled along with others... Cabir- so, everyone the reason is that my dearest friend Manik just couldn't control himself anymore... You know na voh some hormonal stuff happens.. I immediately looked at Cabir with a shocked expression as to what nonsense he was speaking about me. Every single person was staring at me after that remark as if I was a desperate guy who just wanted to marry for... And everyone started to laugh on his pathetic joke... The ladies were again busy pulling my cheeks and the girls were checking me out shamelessly... Cabir- ok ok... Before Manik kills me with his deadly glares, Anusha we should continue. Anusha- hey relax Manik, Nandini ko punch samjh nahi aaya hoga. I'll explain you later Nandini... I instantly looked at Nandini who was trying to hide her face with her palm that had turned red after Anusha's comment and I realized how innocent was my to-be wife and a warm feeling engulfed my heart.. Cabir- ok... Anusha mein kya soch raha tha ki, Manik and Nandini ek doosre ke bare mein jyada jante nahi hai so why don't we help them... Anusha - hhmm ok... Cabir- Cool... So Nandini we'll today tell you some secrets about Manik... aur Ridhima Dee and hum logon se jayada iske secrets koi nahi janta... Let's start from his school days... I thought Cabir is sensible enough that we are in a gathering and would only speak good things about me... Cabir- Nandini, Manik was very good in Math's and specially Algebra... There was a key reason behind his good performance. Anusha- ok... That sounds interesting... Then I guess we'll also reveal a bit about Nandini... Everyone applauded...Nandini looked at me and we both smiled... The aunties who were sitting between us left and I took the opportunity to scoot and sit close to her. My heart was content after that and a sheepish grin was now playing on my lips. However, then I noticed she was murmuring something. Nandini - good luck Nandini... (Nervous) I was a bit confused..."Good luck but why..." Nandini- (irritated) do you think my friends will spare me... God she looked so cute with that flustered look and I was lost in admiring her cute face, specially her puffy cheeks... She then snapped her fingers and that got me out of my trance. The music started and my smile got vanished too... Now even I realized that I needed good luck coz Cabir was dressed up like me and he winked at me... and Anusha was dressed like Nandini...

Somehow I gathered courage and spoke to her..."Nandini I was 9 years old and it...it just happened...I didn't love her... It was just a crush, I swear I don't feel anything for her now..." I said with utmost honesty and lowered my head when she didn't react and then I heard her giggling again... Nandini- (smiled) Manik seriously... hey its ok... relax... we are friends so we share secrets too right...well tum school mein, I can imagine you must be so cute that time...😳 I immediately flashed my 32 white teeth back to her and that warm feeling washed all over my face again. If anyone else would have called me 'cute' I would have ripped off that person with my anger and here I was blushing when she called me cute. My heart was fluttering with an unknown happiness. We both slowly began to get comfortable and were telling each other about our relatives who were performing as we weren't acquainted with each other's extended family. We had a few performances by other family members too and they made both of us join them... Nandini and me came back to our seats... I was feeling relieved that the torture for the night was over and my no other story will be told... but how could they let me in peace and next was Navya. Navya- well we spoke about their school life, so now let's talk about college... Manik was very famous amongst girls... not only girls kuch boys bhi... My eyes popped out of my sockets due to shock as to how they knew about it...😲. I knew it had to be my sister who spilled the secret out coz only she knew about it and this was the revenge she was speaking in afternoon... I wanted to get up and run away. ALL GIRLS TOGETHER- Maa Da Laadla Bigad Gaya 😉... I stormed my foot and went back to sit at my place. I just couldn't meet anyone's eye after being so highly mortified. I wanted dig the earth and hide beneath it. After a few minutes I felt a warm hand on my hands. I glanced on my hands and then looked at Nandini...
Nandini - (smiled) Manik don't take it to your heart, sab Mazak kar rahe thy... Please smile... please...
She said that with so much of warmth that I just couldn't stop myself and gave her my best smile. After sometime Anusha came to Nandini and she seemed a bit upset. They both had a word about something and then Anusha left. After 5 minutes of intense thinking session Nandini spoke to me... Nandini - Manik I need to talk to you... I bobbed my head and asked her... "Ya say..." Nandini- not here... step out for 5 minutes and meet at the entrance corridor of my room ok... come fast. She then got up and made an excuse to her cousin Naina that she had to go to her room for some work and turned to look at me before she left. I was a bit confused as to what the matter was and assured her by my eyes that I was coming. I knew only one person could sneak me out from there and that was my sister. Though I was mad at her, but right now I needed her help...I called Ridhima and told that I wanted to sneak out for 5 minutes. Ridhima - (teasing) Manik what's so important... "Ridhima, Nandini needs to speak to me and she is waiting outside ... she looked a bit upset... I don't know what the matter is..." My sister smiled and sneaked me out...I made my way out to the entrance corridor and all the way hundreds of negative thoughts crossed my mind... "Is she upset with me?? Does she really think I am gay... Does she want to call off the wedding??..." I got almost every negative thought and it made me extremely nervous. I brushed my face with my fingers as I had sweat beads on my forehead. I felt like I will have my divorce filed even before I got married. She was pacing in the corridor and then I spoke first out of being nervous... "Nandini that performance... it was just a misunderstanding... I thought Namit was a girl... I am not gay trust me... it was Ridhima's plan... Please don't call off the wedding..." I kept on ranting whatever came in my mind and then she stopped me in middle... Nandini- hold on... Manik what are you saying... why will I call off the wedding... stop... I called you here coz I needed your help... I kept on staring at her with a confused look... "Help...😕" Nandini- ya help...I need your help... Manik voh Anusha... Actually the matter is Anusha likes my brother and Rishabh is thoda shy types... I felt like I got my heartbeat back when I found the matter was related to her best friend. But I didn't know what she needed from me. "Nandini that's great, but how do I help you in it..." Nandini - actually you know na Rishabh is going back to U.S.A. in a week for his final year of P.H.D. and Anusha got to know about it today... I can't see her like this Manik... I was confused as to what the issue was... Nandini- Ok let me simplify it for you... They both like each other but my nerd brother is so stupid that he'll never confess he likes Anusha... Our parents have an idea about it, but you know they are waiting for Rishabh to speak up... Anusha is very upset... So I thought why don't we do something for them...will you perform with me please...😳 I kept staring at her innocent face and that moment I got to know that she is a girl who values relationships and believed in keeping them safe. I agreed to perform with her and then she showed me a video clip. I stared back at her with a bit of amusement as to she really wanted me to be the 'PREM' from RAJSHREE movies... I always found these movies so funny and stupid, but how could I tell her that directly. So I spoke in a polished manner... "Nandini do you really wanna make me do this... are you sure... I mean can't we simply just speak about it... yeah karna zaruri hai..." She had a frown on her forehead and pouted her lips being a bit annoyed... I glared at her and she bobbed her head in a 'YES' like a child... I took a deep breath and trust me I just wanted to bang my head on a wall after this. In an evening I had won so many titles such as the desperate, flirt, idiot, gay and then thankfully ''straight'' after Ridhima said it loud and clear. And, now my to-be-wife wanted me to play the 'PREM' from RAJSHREE Movies, which I hated the most😡. My evening was full of never ending shocks. I called up Cabir and told him about Nandini's plan. And then she showed me the video again so that I remember the steps. Cabir- may I have your attention please... (He hummed the next couple of lines with a naughty smirk...)

MANIK- [to Nandini's parents] Puree ho naa ho padhayee, O Papajee Kar do inki bhee sagayee, O Mummyjee... Everyone was happy and was congratulating the new couple after the elders announced their engagement. We all settled and then Ridhima took over the mike. Ridhima- I guess this sangeet everyone will remember for life, but how can it be over till the lovely couple performs. I know Manik and Nandini you didn't get time to prepare anything and I apologize on behalf of both the families. But, Manik atleast you can sing something for Nandini... After a lot of 'yes/no's' I agreed to sing... Everyone was hooting for us and I looked at Nandini who looked very excited, her face was beaming with glow and her eyes were twinkling... She whispered to me... Nandini - All the Best...😳 I smiled back and then went on to take the guitar from Dhruv... I started to strum my guitar strings and then started to sing looking at Nandini. Everyone was applauding and then in meanwhile I kept the guitar on the side. I walked towards Nandini and forwarded my hand to ask her for a dance. She smiled and placed her hand on mine. Cabir played the track for us. It was my first official dance with Nandini... And must say she was an excellent dancer. Infact she guided our impromptu performance and I just followed her. While dancing I kept looking into her deep, beautiful and mesmerizing eyes... For the first time I had seen an unknown happiness that was reflecting on her serene face. It was a very special moment for us.The room echoed with applauds for us and then everyone joined us too on the dance floor.
With that my sangeet was finally over with a big smile on everyone's face. I hate to admit but I loved the typical RAJSHREE MOMENT that I had just witnessed with every single soul enjoying to the fullest.
