Chapter 13
A puzzling fairytale😛
Nandini finally managed to suppress her laugh and looked at Manik.
'Phir kya hua? Ernest kya princess ko free kar paaye..' Manik asked curiously.
'Arre...itne impatient kyon? Padhke sunaa rahi hoon na..then atlast he reached the castle' Nandini continued the story and Manik continued to look up at her with curious eyes.
'Wow castle' Manik repeated after her with dreamy eyes. Nandini smiled slightly but continued to read.
'I'm finally here..' Ernest said.
'I'm finally here' Manik repeated. 😆
'Are you going to repeat after me or should I stop reading?' Nandini asked a bit irritated.
'No..tum padho..now I'll be total silent' Manik said keeping a finger over his lip.
'Ok..then Ernest knocked on the door and shouted to open the door fast or else he'll break it. Then after sometime an old lady with a sweet voice opened the door and she said- who's knocking?'
'Ernest' Manik replied and kept his finger again on his lip.😛
Nandini didn't care anymore because she realized that she has got a pretty naughty pet.😆
'Are you deaf old lady?' Ernest asked.
'Deaf hoti tho door open karti kya? Kitna bewakoof hai' Manik commented and kept his finger once again on his lip.
Nandini shook her head in disbelief as she paused and looked at him again.
'The old lady said that she is not deaf and then Ernest said that he is here to rescue the princess and to be the king. Then the old lady asked him to wait and told him that he has to go through three tests the next day' Nandini continued the story.
'So that night..Ernest had to sleep under a tree and next morning the old lady came to him. Ernest said that he is not afraid of anyone and asked her to give him the three tests.'
'Not afraid of anyone? Ernest jhoot bol raha hai...if he was not afraid that the ants would bite him would he destroy the anthill? If he was not afraid that the bees would sting him, would he destroy the beehive?' Manik commented and kept his finger again on his lip.
'Hmm...so the old lady asked if he was sure he is ready to take the tests? Then he scolded the old lady saying - how dare you talk to me like that? what do I have to do? Do I have to destroy?' Nandini said and looked at Manik. Manik was looking up at her with finger on his lips.
Nandini smiled and continued reading.
" The old lady said- You don't have to destroy anything. The task is that I will put some sunflower seeds here and they will be blown by the wind. You have to pick them up and put them in a bag in only an hour. Ernest complained saying that what sort of task is this? I have to pick up all those little sunflower seeds and put them in the bag? Do you think I'm crazy?'
'Haan crazy hi tho hai..warna saare janwaron ko pareshaan na kar rahe hote...' Manik said again and looked with a pout on his lips. 😛
'Ok.. then, the old lady laughed and went away from there. Ernest was lazy and said that it's impossible to pick up all those tiny seeds and went to take a nap. After one hour the old lady returned. He said that he will take the next test. The old lady threw 12 golden rings to a deep lake and asked him to pick them up in an hour'
'Arre haath main jo golden rings hai..usko kyon paani main daal rahi hai? Unmein se ek dete tho main tumhe de dete na!' Manik said with a little smirk.
'Manikk!' Nandini said rolling her eyes with a warning tone.
'Ok sorry...wo ring bhi uss dadi ko de diye... let her throw into water' Manik said and once again placed his finger on his lip pouting.😛
'Then Ernest said that the water is too cold and deep and said that he will catch cold. So he didn't do the 2nd test too.'
'Bahut nikamma hai...kaam chor' Manik commented with a frown.
'So the old lady said that she will give him the third test and asked Ernest to follow her into the castle. When they entered the castle, she took him to a dark room. The old lady said that there are 3 sillhoutes covered with a white sheet. Then the old lady said- You will have one hour to tell me where the princess is...ha ha ha if your guess is right then she will be free, but if not...' Nandini ended abruptly.
'If not kya? Dadi wahan khadi hoke dance karegi kya?' Manik asked with a pout.
'If not... ka answer in a few minutes. Abhi keep your finger on your lip and listen to the story' Nandini said with a pout. Manik nodded obediently and once again kept his finger on his lip.
'Ernest said that he don't want to waste any time and said that he choose the one on the right. Then the old lady ordered- The one on the right uncover yourself!'
'Suddenly a dragon came out and Ernest shouted- Oh no! A dragon dragon!! Help help! and then the old lady laughed- ha ha ha ha' Nandini laughed in a bit evil tone. 😈
'Ha ha ha ha' Manik imitated the evil laugh.😈
Nandini smirked noticing the way Manik was acting. 'The dragon chased Ernest through the castle and killed him'
'Tch tch tch..bechara Ernest...pata tha ke aisa hi kuch honewala tha...wo 3 tests karte tho kam se kam pass mark tho mil jaate..par nahi...usko pass mark ke liye bhi work nahi karna tha...nikammon ka yehi haal hota hai' Manik commented looking up at Nandini.
'Hmm...' Nandini mumbled with a smirk.
'Phir kya hua?' Manik asked looking curiously at Nandini.
'Then the farmer was worried that Ernest was not coming back. So Alexander said that he will go and find Ernest and bring him back. The farmer said that he will not give a horse or a sword and won't help Alexander.' 😛
'Achcha baap hai...bilkul villain' Manik commented sarcastically. 😛
'Manik..badon ke baare main aise nahi kehte' Nandini said to Manik.
'Achcha? Tho villain bade hue tho chod de aur humse chote hai tho maar de? Ye kaise sahi hue? Villain tho villain hai' Manik argued.
'Pets don't argue' Nandini suddenly brought in the pet theory. 😆
'Ok..' Manik mumbled with a pout.
'So Alexander took only a piece of bread and went on foot to the castle and that night he decided to rest under the tree and when he woke up he saw an ant hill and ants were trying to re- build the nest.'
'Alexander saw it and he said ...oh poor you ants, who destroyed your nest? Maybe it was my brother. I will help them re-build their nest. When he finished he walked over to the lake to drink some water and saw some little ducks swimming and he said- Oh poor ducks...you must be hungry, eat these pieces of bread.' Nandini paused and looked at Manik. He was looking up with a pout and a finger over his lip.
'Ok...beech beech main you can comment...' Nandini gave him a concession as she noticed the way Manik was totally silent. 😆
Manik smiled listening to these words. 😊
'Hmm...so even if she orders me to stay silent, she can't bear my silence too...that means she cares for how I respond' Manik thought with a smile. 😳
'The ducks then ate the bread and then Alexander saw the bee hive on the ground and he picked it up and put it over a tree. When he arrived, he knocked on the door of the castle and the old lady once again opened and asked- what do you want, my dear?'
'Then Alexander said - I am sorry to bother you, but I would like to rescue the princess'
'Kitna farak hai..Ernest main aur Alexander main...Alexander kitna achcha bolta hai...well-mannered hai..haina?' Manik asked with a little smile.
'Haan..' Nandini replied with a smile.
'Tumhaari tarah...' Manik said with a smile looking into Nandini's eyes.
'Ok...' Nandini said as she coughed slightly as she felt her cheeks blushing from the compliment. 'Ok then..the old lady said- you can try if you want to..but you know the consequences, if you fail, don't you?'
'Then Ernest said- 'Yes I know..but in one of my dreams I saw a beautiful princess and I fell in love with her...'
'The princess must've looked just like you...' Manik said dreamily looking at Nandini. Manik had eyes that looked at her dreamily and his face looked so handsome as he looked at her with those dreamy eyes. Nandini didn't know why but she unconsciously gently caressed his cheeks with a smile on her face. Manik smiled back at her and raised his hand and touched her cheek and traced his fingers on her chubby cheek. 😳
Suddenly Nandini took her hand away and took Manik's fingers off her cheek.
'Ok..back to the story..' Nandini said clearing her throat nervously.
'Hmm...' Manik responded dreamily continuing to look at her. 😳
'So the lady laughed and spread the sunflower seeds on the ground and asked him to pick them up in an hour. Alexander thought to himself- oh I can't gather all these seeds but I will try. 45 minutes later, he was about to give up when he heard a strong noise and the ants had come to help him. They were grateful because they helped them rebuild their nest'
'So sweet ants...humhe na ants se friendship karne chahiye' Manik said with a smile. Nandini smiled back and continued narrating the story...
'The ants collected all the seeds of sunflower and he collected them in the bag. Alexander thanked them. After sometime, the old lady came and he gave the bag of sunflower seeds to her and then she gave him the second test. She threw 12 rings into the lake and asked him to pick them up in an hour. Alexander jumped into the water and tried to find the 12 rings but the water was too cold and deep and he couldn't catch any. Suddenly he saw something moving and it was the ducks with whom he shared the little piece of bread. They picked up the golden rings and gave to him.'
'Kitna pyaara ducks hai...we must have ducks as pets..what do you think?' Manik asked with a smirk.
'Abhi ke liye tum hi kaafi ho..aur pets nahi manage kar paaongi' Nandini said with a frown. 😛
'Ok..then what happened after that?' Manik asked curiously. 😳
'Then Alexander thanked the ducks and he went out of the water and gave the rings to the old lady. Then the old lady gave him the third and final test. She took him inside the castle and showed him the three silhouettes and asked him to find the princess. But Alexander couldn't guess which one was the princess. Alexander was standing there confused when suddenly hundreds of bees entered through the window and flew around the middle silhouette. Alexander suddenly said- It's the middle one.'
'Hmm bahut intelligent hai...Alexander...mere tarah, haina?' Manik said looking up at Nandini. 😛
'Haan' Nandini said with a smile. Manik smiled back as he heard Nandini agreeing to his words that he is intelligent.😳
'Then the old lady ordered the middle one to uncover itself and there stood the princess.' 😛
'Then the princess said- Thank you Alexander for rescuing me. I am glad it was you' Nandini quoted the words of the princess.
'Thank you Nandini for rescuing me...I'm glad it was you' Manik said with a smile on his face as he looked gratefully at Nandini. 😳
Nandini smiled back at him as she concluded the story
'Then they heard the dragon escaping from the tower and the dragon went to tell his master that the princess is free and that you Alexander is the master of the castle. So they got married and lived happily ever after' Nandini closed the book and looked at Manik.
'It's such a beautiful story...thanks for reading the story to me, my owner.' Manik said with a smile on his face.
'Now get up...it's time for me to get back to my work.' Nandini said trying to make Manik sit up.
'But my beloved owner...why was this fairytale so short? It ended so fast...' Manik said with a bit sad look on his face.
'Because every fairytale has to come to an end' Nandini said looking into Manik's eyes.
'And what about our fairytale? How will it end?' Manik asked with a perplexed look on his face.
Nandini didn't know the answer to his question...but she just smiled back. Manik noticed the confusion on her face and he got up and sat next to her.
'My dear owner..it doesn't matter how our story ends...but what matters is that there is a smile on your face and this pet of yours can do anything to bring that smile on your face. So please smile' Manik said with a smile on his face. Nandini smiled back and got up.
'Ok time to get back to my work. I have some work to do. You sit here and watch tv' Nandini said as she got up. Suddenly she felt Manik hold her hand. Nandini looked at him with a questioning look on her face. 😕
'Can you always..daily read stories for me like this till I am here?' Manik asked with a pleading look in his eyes. 😳
Nandini nodded and Manik let go of her hand. He picked up the remote control and switched on the tv and returned to watching tv. Nandini walked away from there with a confusion in her heart.
'Ayyappa...how will our fairytale end? Will he go away from me? Or...will he stay with me forever? What is our bond?' 😕
So many unanswered questions...which only time can answer...😳
