Midnight

Nandini's phone buzzed she knew who it was. She picked up her phone and smiled widely seeing the message

Message-: Baby!!! Happy 2nd anniversary!! I love you!! Meet me tomorrow 11am at the cafe!! Bye! :*

Nandini smiled and replied "Same to you!! I love you too!"

She slept after thanking God for sending him in her life.

On the other side Manik also received her message and smiled. Just when he was about to lie down he heard a knock on the door. He said "come in" and his father came in.

Morning

Nandini was getting ready to meet Manik, the boy of her dreams. She loved him alot and same went with him. Both were together since 2 years. Today was their anniversary. Both were very serious about each other and wanted to get married to each other.

Nandini was very happy; today she was going to talk to Manik about their marriage. But little did she know her happiness was short lived. She was wearing Manik's favourite colour dress.

Nandini came panting to the cafe. She was late again.

Nandini: Shit!! Aaj to definitely bohot gussa hone wala hai. 11am ka time diya tha and main 12pm pohoch rahi hoon! God save me please.

She saw him sitting at the corner table she rushed to him and faced him. Making a puppy face she said sorry. He stood up. Nandini hugged him tightly and said "Happy two years Manik!" but Manik did not hugged her back neither did he said anything. Nandini sensed something wrong and stepped back. She asked him sadly "Manik have I done something wrong?" Manik said "Nandini actually..." Now she definitely knew something was seriously wrong because in these 2 years he hadn't taken her name. He used to call her baby, baccha , honey or jaan but today he had taken her name. Nandini said "Manik you are scaring me! Please tell me what is wrong". Manik took a long breath and said "Nandini I think this is not going to work out. So I am breaking up with you. Bye "and he went away. Nandini stood there numb. When she regained her senses she rushed outside in Manik's direction. Luckily Manik had still standing for his car to arrive. Nandini ran towards him and shouted "Manik don't crack these nasty jokes" but Manik said calmly "Nandini I am not joking we are over." By the time his car had also arrived, he sat in and drove off.

Manik self talk "I am sorry Nandini I have to do this for my parents. I love you so much but I cannot go against my father".

Flashback

Manik got up and asked " Dad aap yahan?? Kuch chahiye tha kya?"

Manik's Dad: Haan but kya tum de paoge?

Manik: Haan dad aap mangke to dekhiye

Dad : Manik main chahta hoon ki tum Riya se shaadi karlo.

Manik: Dad you know na ki I love Nandini and i want to marry her.

Dad: Manik, This was your mother's last wish. If you ever loved her please marry Riya. I hope you do not disappoint me. Good night.

Manik's heart sank he had to choose between his love for Nandini and his love for his parents.

Manik had always been an obedient child. He loved his parents more than anything in the world. Unlike the children of his age he used to spend quality time with his parents. His mother, Nyonika, had died just a year ago. She was an epitome of perfect mother for him. She was a wonderful lady and loved Manik alot. She had even met Nandini and knew about their relationship.

"Mom ko to pata tha na to phir mom kyu chahti thi ki main Riya se shaadi karoon? But i cannot deny her and dad's wish. I should marry Riya... I am sorry Nandini i would not be able to fulfil my promises to you".

He kept on thinking about Nandini the whole night. He knew she would be shattered after listening this but he chose to go for it"

End of flashback

Nandini ran to her home. Fortunately, her father was not at home. She went to her room and crashed on her bed crying. It was late evening when her father returned home. She washed her face and got ready to face him. She opened the door and hugged him.

Nandini's Dad: Arey!! Aaj to bada pyaar aa raha hai...

Nandini : Nahi aisa nahi hai papa... how was your day? Zyada work to nahi tha na.

Papa : Nahi! Vaise ek baat batani thi vo Manav hai na Malhotra industries ka owner vo aaya tha wedding card leke. His son is getting married next month to hame invite kiya hai.

Nandini was shocked. She was thinking how could Manik do this to her. He excused herself from her dad and went to her room. Tears were not ceasing from her eyes. She joined the puzzles and understood that Manik was doing all this because of his parents. She was upset because he did not share his worry with her and just left her.

Next morning she went for a walk to get some fresh air. Just when she was passing through the park she saw Manik's dad getting all mushy with a lady. She made sure that it was his Dad only and then went to Manik's place to inform him.

Manik had just come out of his room when he saw Nandini standing in his hall. He was relieved seeing her after almost a day. He came down with a stern face and asked her "What are you doing here?"

Nandini: Manik vo actually i saw your dad getting close with someone in the park. I swear it was him. I know it's difficult for you to believe it but trust me. He is just playing with your emotions. Please understand.

Manik could never hear anything bad about his father. This angered him to a large extend.

He shouted "Just shut up! Just because I have broken up with you that doesn't means you will use these cheap tricks to get back to me. How could you stoop so low Nandini? I thought you were different. I so hate myself for loving you. Just leave before I call the security"

Nandini was left heartbroken once again. She went home and decided to talk to her dad. It was 8 pm when her dad came home.

She immediately hugged him and started crying.

Papa: Nandu! Kya hua beta?

Nandini: Papa vo i have decided that... I will go to Paris. Aap kal subah ki ticket book karwa dijiye.

Papa: Okay beta!! I am very happy with your decision. I will just make arrangements.

It so happened that Nandini had got a job offer from Paris which gave her 2 weeks consideration time. Her father had encouraged her to take up this offer but not wanting to stay away from Manik she had refused him.

Next morning Nandini had gone to Paris to start afresh. Though she still loved Manik and always will but she decided to move on make her career.

Next few days passed Manik was getting restless because he had not seen Nandini after that day. He had returned home when he heard his father's laugh from his room. He quietly peeked ain and heard him talking to someone on phone

"Don't worry sweetheart!! Manik is ready for the marriage. Soon all the property will be ours and we will kick him out. He doesn't even knows that I am not his real dad. And see the irony of the situation usko ye bhi nahi pata ki Nyonika's last wish was seeing him as a successful business man and marrying Nandini. Don't worry everything is sorted... chalo good night"

Tears welled up in Manik's eyes. His vision was all blur. He just wanted to go and hug Nandini where his solace lay. He ran out and drove off to Nandini's place. He rang the bell. Nandini's father opened the door.

Nandini's father: Manik, beta tum yahan? You need something?

Manik whispered: Nandini!!

Nandini's father : Vo chali gayi!! Very far from here. Vo Paris mein hai.

Manik was heartbroken. He had lost her forever now.

Manik: Uncle, I love her and I want to marry her!! Please mujhe uska address bata dijiye please!!

Nandini's father: I am sorry! I cannot do this. Though she never mentioned anything in this matter but I know ki vo tumhari hi wajah se bohot upset thi and decided to go to Paris.

Manik: Uncle, please i am really sorry... i need to meet her please!!

Nandini's father : First you have to prove that you are worthy of her uske baad i will decide. Work hard, earn your name then come to me for Nandini's hand.

Manik said with confidence " Fine uncle i will prove my worth so well that you won't be able to refuse me and will yourself give me her hand.

From the next day, Manik took all the business under his control. He left Malhotra mansion and started living in rented apartment. He broke off all ties with Manav.

It was a year now; Manik was one of the most successful business man. He was recognised where ever he went. Nandini's father was also proud of him. Finally the day came when Manik came to Nandini's house after receiving an award for "The Business Man of the Year". Nandini's father hugged him and gave him Nandini's address.

Since last one year Nandini's father was giving her regular updates about Manik. She was falling in love with him more and more after knowing that he was working hard for spending their future together. She was doing really well in her field. She was awarded "Employee of the Year". Nandini's father had not told her about Manik coming to Paris.

Finally Manik reached Paris and went to Nandini's house. He knocked the door when a thin girl opened the door, he saw Nandini hugging a boy and saying I love you'. He was numb. He just turned and left without saying anything. Manik self talk "You deserve this!! Manik !! jab vo tere paas thi you did not value her."

On the other hand Mukti, the thin girl, informed Nandini about Manik's arrival. She jumped with joy and went to see him at the door but he was gone. Mukti said "I think he saw you hugging Abhi"

Nandini rushed outside and saw Manik walking away dejectedly she screamed "Manik!!"

Manik looked back and saw her coming towards him. She was still the same her eyes still shined and her smile was still beautiful. He stood there capturing her appearance after whole one year. Soon she was standing in front of him.

Manik: I am sorry Nandini for whatever I said and did. I know a simple sorry is not enough but still. I hope you have a happy life with him.

Nandini: Itni jaldi haar man lee?? He was Abhi, my cousin!! I had already forgiven you the moment you made your mind to fight for us!

Tears started flowing from Manik's eyes. He just engulfed her in a bone crashing hug.

Manik (still hugging her): I love you!! Shaadi karogi na mujhse Jaan?

Nandini nodded her head and whispered "Yes"

They broke the hug and stood still drinking each other's presence. Manik cupped her face and fussed his lips with her to which she responded equally. This was witnessed by the city of romance Paris.

Manik: I love you Baby... very much!!

Nandini:I love you too!!! Manik!!
