Part 15
Calm Before The Storm
New day - every new day brings a new hope but some days bring new challenges. Some days have darkness written all over them; some days when you just wait with the bated breath for that storm to hit you but don't know from where and when it will hit you.
Vandana was pacing up and down her prayer room nervously. She couldn't sleep whole night and must have called dadi a zillion times but failed as Tehri Garwal was not well connected. She was too tensed for Nandini and has summoned both Nandini and Mukti to come and meet her. "Nandini." She called her out and looked at her a little suspicious. "What happened mom? All ok?" Mukti asked. "No all is not ok." Vandana replied without shifting her gaze from Nandini.
What happened aunty?" Nandini asked. Vandana looked deep in her eyes and said "Are you in love with Manik?" Nandini was taken aback and Mukti was shocked hearing what her mother had just said. "Mom she hates Manik. how can she love him? He tried to hurt her and they don't see an eye to eye." Mukti tried reasoning but Vandana showed her hand and asked Mukti to stop. "Nandini I am asking again are you in love with Manik?" Nandini was in dilemma for she had never lied to Vandana and on the other hand Manik had asked her not to tell anyone about them.
A strange silence engulfed as Nandini didn't answer and both vandana and Mukti were looking at her in anticipation although Vandana already knew what she will say but she wanted her to say it. Finally breaking her silence Nandini replied "I am not in love with Manik." it killed her to lie but she couldn't break the promise she made to him. Mukti chipped "see I told you." Vandana smiled and nodded in agreement and asked both the girls to leave as this was a big day for them and she didn't want to spoil it for them especially without dadi not around.
Meanwhile the Malhotra's were having a serious discussion on how to avoid a conflict with the Saxena's considering they were werewolves and tonight was a full moon night. Neyonika insisted on both the brothers should not step out of house and skip the party but Manik couldn't leave Nandini in danger. He knew if he wouldn't go Harshad will use Nandini as bait to lure him out and that would be more dangerous but he could not tell his parents about Nandini also. "Mom we will have to attend the fresher's night. Harshad knows about us and if we don't go he will be more suspicious about and would do something that could put our secret in danger."
"but Manik." Neyonika tried to reason with him but Vikrant supported Manik saying "he is right but you both brothers need to be together all the while and especially when the moon is in its 8th phase that shall be around midnight because that will be the time when they will transform from humans to werewolves. And if anything goes wrong Neyonika and I will be around to take care and handle situation." Vikrant said. Manik nodded in agreement and he looked towards Dhruv and said "There will be humans all around make sure Dhruv you have control over your blood lust." Dhruv nodded in agreement.
Both the brothers made their way to college when Vikrant stopped them and asked "where is the party happening?" Dhruv replied "it is happening in the college.' "Good." He nodded "Stay away from the woods." They nodded in agreement and left for college.
Manik was standing near his car waiting for Nandini as he did not spot her car. Soon he saw a red BMW and an Audi pulling in. first to come out were Cabir, Alya and Nandini. Manik looked at Nandini but soon his gaze shifted to Harshad who came out with Mukti. Harshad looked at Manik and let out an evil smirk. While Harshad and Manik were involved in the cold war Manik didn't miss the tension on Nandini's face which made him tensed.
Nandini texted Manik to wait for her and she moved on with her group. Manik was standing leaning on the car reminiscing the moments he spent with her last night when he felt two familiar tiny hands wrapping themselves around him. He smiled and said "Nandini." But before he could say anything further she pushed him inside the car and hugged him tight. "wow Nandini kya baat hai? Bahut mood mein ho aaj?" Manik joked but soon found her sobbing.
He pulled apart and saw tears flowing from her eyes and she looked terribly scared. "Nandini what happened?" he asked. "Manik who Vandana aunty." She said sobbing. Manik was unaware of Vandana's name so he asked "kaun Vandana aunty?" "Mukti's mom." Nandini said and again started crying. Manik wiped her tears and said "Nandini calm down and tell me what happened?" Manik said wiping her tears were not stopping. She was shivering with fear. Seeing nothing coming out Manik took her in his embrace and hugged her tight to soothe her and giver her much needed strength.
After seemed like eternity Nandini finally broke the hug and said "Manik I think Vandana aunty saw us; where and how I don't know but she knows about us." Manik was a little shocked but keeping himself clam he asked "How do you know she knows about us or has seen us?" "Manik she called me and asked me and I don't know how but she knows your name. I asked Mukti but she said she never mentioned you to her."
Nandini's words were a little unsetting for Manik and to get further information on Singhania's Manik probed Nandini further "So Nandini can you tell me something more about them?" Nandini nodded and told him everything about them as how they were close family friends and trustees of hospital and how they have taken care of Alya and Nandini after their parents; nothing out of the book' Manik thought but then Nandini told him something that alarmed him.
"There is one thing that I needed to tell you about dadi." Nandini said and Manik gestured her to continue "you know dadi she has been acting all weird and so is vandana aunty. They say there is darkness around me well don't feel anything weird but that day of out parking encounter when I fainted dadi left for tehri garhwal in a hurry." This information was alarming for Manik. "what did you just say tehri garhwal? What is your dadi's name?" manik asked. "Gayatri Singhania. Manik I am very scared is anything bad going to happen?" Nandini looked at him which tears again brimming and fear making its way.
Manik hugged her tightly in his arms and said "do you trust me Nandini?" she replied in a "Hmm." He smiled and said "then trust me I won't let anything bad happen." Assured and calmed by his words and his embrace she hugged me more tightly. "Gayarti Singhania aka Gayatri Rajput the famous decendant of the original family of witches from Tehri Garwal." Manik thought "Now I have witches to deal with. Great." After assuring Nandini that nothing will go wrong he asked her to concentrate on the evening as this was going to be their magical night. "Nandini you have no idea how much impatient I am to make you mine." Manik said as he claimed her lips for a soul searing and chaste kiss. There was no hunger for each other in that kiss but the need to calm each other with their presence. Nandini was Manik's biggest strength and his biggest weakness and it was going to take every ounce of Manik's strength to keep her safe.
The rest of the day passed very peacefully with Manik keeping an eye on Dhruv as well as Harshad. He has already informed Dhruv about the Singhania's and Dhruv also told him about his suspicion about Mukti as she had been weird around them. Manik instructed Dhruv to keep an eye on Mukti. However the day wasn't very smooth for Harshad who was pretending all cool in front of Manik and his friends didn't even had the slightest of idea what was about to happen to him tonight especially Mukti.
Mukti was excitedly sharing her plans for the night however Harshad was lost in the tape that his father had shown him when he documented his transition. It was a painful and scary sight for Harshad watching every single human bone twisting and breaking and when his chained father screamed and turned into a wolf; Harshad had never seen anything scarier than that. "Harshad are you listening to me?" Mukti's words shook his trance off but he got irritated and shouted "What is it Mukti? I know its fresher's night and I know you are very excited but don't you see I am." He stopped he couldn't tell her or anyone why he was tensed. Harshad fought with her and walked off leaving a crying Mukti and his stunned friends behind as he has always been very sweet with them.
Harshad walked in home where his father and his grandfather were waiting for him. "Harshad you won't go anywhere tonight." His dad ordered him. "no dad I have to go it's fresher's night and all my friends and especially Mukti and his family will get suspicious." Harshad said. "But Harshad do you have any idea what is going to happen tonight once the moon starts moving in 8 packs and crosses its first phase you will start showing effects of the transition and this being your first time you can't." his grandfather too objected.
"no I have to and I will go I promise to get out of the party before moon hits its first phase. And moreover I have a score to settle with Manik Malhotra." Harshad said "The vampire?" his dad asked. Harshad nodded in agreement and said "I have the perfect plan to lure Manik out and kill him and his brother Dhruv and I have the perfect bait too Nandini, one brother loves her and one lusts her blood." Harshad's grandfather was furious "Harshad are you mad? Why are we involving that innocent girl Nandini? She is your friend we have known her since childhood." Harshad looked at his furious grandfather and said "I know what I am doing and I promise I won't let anything happen to Nandini; her safety is my responsibility." "Harshad you have no idea what happens after transition; we don't have any recognition of our human relations. Nandini ko involve mat karo its too dangerous." His dad tried to explain but Harshad had made up his mind and said "sorry dad the plan is on."
Finally the stage was set down for the biggest showdown nature's biggest abominations; the rulers of the darkness were about to collide tonight and even nature could feel that approaching storm.
