"Manik, why are you standing around like a scarecrow?" Mrs Malhotra questioned her mischievous son.
"What do you want now?" Manik rudely replied.
"Do I have to remind you about our family traditions as well as how to behave?"
"Great. What tradition do I have carry out now to maintain the great 'Malhotra' name?" Manik sighed, he was tired at his parents attempt of controlling every aspect of his life.
"Son, as a newly wedded couple you have to carry Nandini to your room." Mr Malhotra calmly explained.
"Dad, please. Nandini has legs she can walk to the room herself. I don't need to carry her" Nandini nodded in agreement, the last thing she wanted was to be manhandled by that monster.
"I won't take no for an answer. This tradition signifies that you the 'husband' will protect your wife"
Manik couldn't listen to his parents taunt him any longer and so he swiftly carried Nandini in his arms.
Nandini, had no choice but to wrap her arms around his neck for support whilst he carried her towards his bedroom.
Mr and Mrs Malhotra followed them into their room.
"Nandini, this bedroom is equally yours as it is Manik's. My assistant Tia will be here tomorrow to help you make space for your belongings" Mrs Malhotra declared, frustrating Manik as he thought about all the other little sacrifices he was going to have to make for Nandini.
"Today has been a very difficult day for all of us. Let's just get some rest and take each day as it comes" Mr Malhotra advised. "Manik, Nandini, time will heal the scars that were formed today but till then both of you just try to respect each other." After sharing a few words of wisdom to the newly wedded couple, Mr and Mrs Malhotra finally left.
"This all happened because of you." Manik hissed. "You could have said no so we wouldn't be in this situation!"
"You really think, I wanted to say yes to marrying a Monster like you?"
"Well you commoners would do anything just to inherit a bit of wealth" Manik spitefully remarked, infuriating Nandini.
"I had no choice, my Chacha and Chachi's name was at stake." she cried.
"So you ruined both of our lives just to protect their image" Manik sarcastically laughed unable to understand the stupidity behind Nandini's action.
"You wouldn't understand because you don't have a heart since the only person you've ever loved is YOURSELF"
"Good because God forbid I ever fall in love with someone as cheap as you!"Manik exclaimed.
"You are not even worthy of loving" Nandini yelled back, feeling secretly torn by his words.
Manik stormed off to the balcony to sleep in the presence of his stars, the only thing that brought him peace when his life was falling apart.
"Why did you let this happen to me Aiyappa? What did I do wrong for you to punish me like this?" She was furious at her Aiyappa for breaking her perfect marriage...
Nandini cried for a good few hours but stopped when she noticed Manik sleeping outside in the balcony through the window.
"So irresponsible! Why is he sleeping in the cold?" She snapped. "Although I hate Manik, I can't leave him like that Aiyappa, he is going to fall ill" she thought to herself. She grabbed the duvet that was placed on his bed and hesitantly tiptoed to the balcony where Manik had fallen fast asleep. She covered him with the duvet and rushed back into the room...
*The Next Morning*
Manik woke up from his peaceful slumber to find himself covered in a blanket and wondered how it had got there.
"Mom must have creeped up on me last night" he thought.
He got up and observed that Nandini was asleep in the corner of their room, still dressed in her bridal attire.
"Wake up. If Mom and Dad find you like this they are going to think that I made you sleep on the floor when I had clearly left the bed for you to sleep in!" Manik snapped, waking up Nandini. She rolled her eyes at him and got up to get ready to face day 2 of her living nightmare.
Whilst Nandini was getting changed in the bathroom, Manik's phone started to ring.
"Hello, Chachi" he smiled. "Is everything okay?"
"Manik beta, I should be asking you that question after yesterday's event. Tum aur Nandini teek ho?"
"Don't worry we're fine Chachi" he lied, they were far from fine.
"Good but beta we have one more problem on our hands. Madhyam has leaked your marriage with Nandini to the press."
"What?" He screeched, unable to process anymore problems occurring in his life...
