CHAPTER 2
NANDINI'S POV
Mukti and Alya , my best friends had planned a one month trip to Europe and they were insisting me to accompany them.I had told Mukti in clear words that I will go only if papa allows me to. I had never seen Europe so I also wanted to go.I came home and discussed my intentions with maa.at first she mocked at me but then after a lot of nagging she gave in.
"Mujhe to koi aitraaz nahi hai...izazat deni hai unhone."maa said " Abhi ghar aayenge to pooch lena!"
"papa ko to main mana lungi"i replied more or less confidently and hugged maa.
We all knew that papa was the supreme authority and sole decision maker of our family so whatever we do had to be done with his permission.
But unfortunately that day papa came home infuriated.Few boys had misbehaved with him on the roadside .
"Ek number ke nalayak ladke the.Hindustani ho kar bhi na aankhon me sharam thi na bado ka lihaaz" Paa bellowed ferociously and I looked at his face with the most stunned expression.
"Kya hua papa?"I asked in a little voice
"Arrey sharab pee kar gaadi chala rahe the aur upar se awwal number ke badtameez bhi thi" His eyes were seething with rage.
How conveniently I had thought that I will convince him but seems like God was teasing me.
"arrey shukr kar lajjo kit u aur tere bachhe is videshi hawa se bache hue ho..." He scoffed and went upstairs.
"papa is in a very bad mood di" Chhutki teased " aapka Europe trip to cancel hi samjho"
Once again all my hopes were shattered.How I had thought of having one last vacation with my friends before getting married to an unknown person.
I went into my room and thumped on the bed hopelessly.Sleep took over after a few minutes.

I woke up early next morning and did my prayers.
It was Sunday so papa was still in bed.I prepared tea for papa and went into his room with tea and Prasad.
Papa lied lazily in the bed reading newspaper.
"Gud morning papa" I said cheerfully " Ye aapke liye chai aur ye prasaad"
I handed him the cup of tea and some Prasad.
"Good morning beta.aaj meri bachhi itni jaldi uthh gayi aur pooja bhi ki...Kya baat hai.Apni shaadi ka naam sunke tum to ek din me hi bahut badi ho gyi"
Papa had always tried to inculcate Indian values in us.He was happy when he saw me bring Prasad for him.
I found him happy and pounced upon my chance to ask for my wish.
"Papa" I said sitting hesitantly beside him.
"Hmm" He asked while turning the pages of the newspaper.
"papa,woh actually mujhe aapse kuchh baat karni thi" I spoke in a little voice.
"Haan bolo beta" He said finally looking at me.
"Wo papa...main Europe jana chahti hu .Meri sab friends jaa rahi hai..e...ek mahine ke liye.Wo papa ek Indian travel agency hai jinhone trip arrange kiya hai...almost 35-40 logon ka group hai aur zyadatar Indians hi hain." I somehow managed to blurt out words while papa didn't say a single word.He wasn't angry and this enhanced my confidence a little bit .I got up and stood near the window.
"Vaise bhi papa , shaadi ke baad meri life kaisi hogi kya pata.Pata nahi main India se bahar kahin jaa bhi sakungi ya nahi.Papa please " I turned around and looked at him " Main ek baar Europe dekhna chahti hu.Mujhe meri apni zindagi me se ek mahina de dijiye...pls" I pleaded "uske baad aap jo kahenge , jaisa kahenge main bilkul vaisa hi karungi"
Papa sat absolutely expressionless in front of me while I saw maa peeping in from the door.i gauged at his face for reactions and eventually after a long pause he spoke.
"Jaa Nandini...jee le apni zindagi!"
I almost jumped with joy and hugged papa.After mumbling thankyou a hundred times i came outside and shared the news with Maa and chhutki, who seemed equally happy.
"Kab jana hai?"Maa asked
"Maa kal hiii"I replied enthusiastically and rushed towards my room to pack my luggage.
"Itni kya jaldi hai...abhi to poora din baki hai" Maa called out from behind.
But I didn't even look back at her and started packing my bags!!

My friends were equally happy to know that I was accompanying them.They had already made all the necessary arrangements regarding reservation.Papa had come to drop me to the railway station as we were supposed to report an hour before the departure time.
"bas beta ,ek baat ka dhyan rakhna "Papa said while bidding a final goodbye " Mera bharosa mat todna"
I smiled and hugged him tightly "Main aapko shikayat ka koi mauka nahi dungi papa."

"Malhotra tours and travel agents have arranged this trip"alya said handing me over an envelope while we walked towards the waiting lounge" Here you go.This is your ID and reservation slip.Pls take care of it till the end of the trip."
"Sure " I said as I inserted the envelope in my handbag.
"Am so happy you're here babe" Mukti spoke enthusiastically "Its gonna be so much funnn!"
"ohhh am so excited!!"I said
"Me too" Alya said cheerfully.

We entered the waiting lounge where all the other members were supposed to gather.Some of the people had reached before us while many others followed.Almost all of them were Indians except a few.People of all ages were there.There was an elderly couple also and a newly wed couple also.A few people had come on a family vacation.After waiting for a few minutes ,finally a boy , who looked like in his mid twenties got up and started addressing the crowd.
"Hello everyone , My name is karan and I am your travel agent , a representative of the Malhotra tours and travels.After a few minutes we shall be boarding the train to Paris which is our first destination in Europe.It will take us approximately 2 n half hours to reach there.An envelope containing your Travel ID and other trip details has been handed over to each one of you.Kindly keep it safe till the end of the trip.Have any more queries...feel free to contact me anytime .Always available at your service." He bowed happily while everyone clapped at his cute gesture.
"Hey , isn't that guy wearing black cap really cute" Alya whispered in my ear looking towards one of the two boys that stood beside Karan"Awww...I think i have already had a crush on him"She declared.
"C'mon Alya we aren't here for all this" I shrudded.
"Then what else are we here for babe...I cant ignore such cute and sexy hunks and spend my time reading these stupid novels"She quipped pointing at the novel in my hand.
"And look at the way he is gaping at you sweetheart" Mukti who was taking full interest in the boy disclosed.
"Awww I think he is also interested in me" Alya spoke excitedly.
"Tum dono ka kuchh nahi ho sakta" i sighed and got up from there to sit somewhere else.
"Manik Sir kyu nahi aaye abhi tak" I heard Karan murmuring to one of the boys as I passed by from there.
"Mujhe kya pata..."The boy wearing the cap , or I can call him 'Alya's latest crush' replied.
"Aapne unhe phone karke uthhaya to tha naa"Karan spoke again.
"No" Both the boys looked at each other with blank faces " Ohhh shit ab to train ka time hone wala hai" The other boy said.
"Dont worry sir , lemme call up and confirm"karan took out his phone from his pocket and dialling a number rushed outside the hall.
I was left pondering over a trail of questions.Who was Manik and why was Karan so bothered about him not coming.
hoga koi...why should I be bothered ?'I said to myself and buried myself in my book.

"Nandini,hurry up.The train will leave any minute now"Mukti said as I searched for change in my handbag to give to the shopkeeper . I had bought a pair of doves...a show piece that signifies love.

"Listen we are boarding the train with your luggage...pls come soon" Alya said hastily and both of them ran away with my luggage.
"Hmmm"I replied fiddling with my wallet to search for change.
The shopkeeper was too adamant at taking change only
"give me change else you can leave these here only"He spoke firmly.
"Nooo..." I sighed now playing with the pockets of my handbag" I need them ...They are lovely"
I had so fallen in love with the show piece .It was one of its kind and I wanted it at any cost.
"Here you go" I said throwing the change on his table. I picked up the doves and ran towards my train.
MANIK'S POV
As usual my idiot friends forgot to wake me up in the morning and as usual I was late.I ran towards the train which was just about to start off and hopped in right in time.
I looked back and saw a girl running towards the train.Probably she was also one like me.
I stepped back and extended my hand to help her get in.I pulled her in with a jerk just in time and she fell upon me.
The doors closed and the train started moving.
I dont know what happened to me but I tightened my grip around her back.While she was struggling to free herself I was lost under the spell of beauty.Her doe shaped eyes that spoke volumes , her silky tresses that partly fell on my face too,the aroma of her breath...everything was driving me crazy.
"Leave me" She yelled pulling me out of my thoughts and eventually I released her!!!
"How dare you touch me " She scoffed while sitting up.
Her voice was equally beautiful.Though she wasn't wearing any lipstick yet her lips were as red as rose petals.
"Hello Mr...Are you out of mind or what?" She spoke again and suddenly my mind registered that I was lying like a dumb man and an unknown girl was yelling at me for helping her out!!
"Excuse me" I said sitting up " madam , I only offered you my hand and it was you who touched it " I clarified.
"Whatever" She said and I once again looked at her pretty face as she picked up her belongings that had scattered on the floor and went inside the cabin .
