Darkness - what is darkness? Is it the absence of light? Is it our state of mind? How does it find us? Does it have a name? is it my name or your name? we all have our darkness; those moments which we don't want to remember; the moments that defines and shapes our lives for wither good or bad. People often ask how does our lives take a turn. Darkness it is one thing that changes us forever either good or bad.
Nandini broke the kiss as they both ran out of breath. Nandini and Manik joined their foreheads making a perfect heart, she caressed his cheeks with her thumb trying to take away the pain and guilt that he was engulfed in. "Manik. let go of this pain. You are not at fault so stop blaming yourself." Manik looked at her helplessly; she cupped his cheeks and continued "You made peace with the fact that she was your mother but it's her misfortune that she could not take in the love of a son like you. You are the best son the best brother, the best friend and the best grandson anyone can have. Never ever have a doubt in that Manik Malhotra. "
"But I let you down Nandini. Twice. Twice you are here on this hospital bed and all cause of me and DJ she's fighting for her life Nandini." He broke down again. "Manik!" Nandini kissed on his heart wiped his tears and continued "Manik I am fine. Look at me and don't ever say that. You have made me alive with your love Manik Malhotra and I love you. I can live without breathing but I can't live without you so never ever blame yourself of hurting me and DJ unko kuch nahi hoga who apne ladoo jalebi ko chod kar kahin nahi ja sakti." Nandini chuckled and hearing her last sentence finally Manik also smiled.
"Nandini is right beta." Damini who was watching the two said while coming in followed by Abhi and Mukti. "Hum sab tumahre saath hain beta kuch nahi hoga DJ ko." Damini caressed his hair with all the motherly love and Manik hugged her and she kept caressing his hair. "how are you Nandini?" Mukti asked while sitting next to her. "I am good and I am sorry because of me your day got spoiled." Nandini hung her head with tears in her eyes. "Hey lil bro's girl chill you didn't spoil anything and we will again celebrate once you and DJ recover ok." Abhi pulled her cheeks to make her smile. With some jokes and leg pulling of Abhi the atmosphere lightened a bit but all the Manik never for once let of go off Nandini's hands; he kept holding it tight and kept caressing it to get a mute assurance from her that everything will be fine.
Just as they sat discussing about DJ's condition and how they were praying either Manik's or Abhi's kidney should be match for DJ Cabir walked in. "How are you Nandini?" she smiled and asked instantly "How is Navya doing? Please ask her not have any guilt. It was fated to happen and no one could have changed it. I know what she must be going through right now." Cabir smiled faintly and said "Navya will be fine and sometimes guilt is important Nandini; a person had to know what his actions lead to."
He turned to Manik and said "I don't know what to say to you except sorry. Ma." And before he could complete Manik stopped him and said "Kya kar raha hai tu? Now we are so formal ki sorry and all pea a gaye. Cabir its ok teri galati nahi thi jaanta hoon main." Manik hugged his best friend who is his mirror and continued "I am not sad ki Neyonika is dead, she gave me birth yes that's how I am connected to her and yes that's it I guess and Nandini is fine and I know DJ will be fine too. So stop blaming yourself." Manik knew if he shows the pain his heart holds Cabir will bury himself under the burden of guilt of a crime he hasn't committed and that will affect fab5 and Manik could not let any storm touch the people who are his life.
As they all sat discussing and praying for DJ a doctor walked in with the reports. "So doctor whose report is a match?" Abhi asked with a bated breath. Nandini closed her eyes and prayed to her aiyappa but undoing everyone's prayers and pleas the doctor delivered the worst possible news they wanted to hear. "I am sorry unfortunately none of your reports are matching." Damini collapsed on her place and rest everyone else were sent in deep doom. "What?" tears brimmed in Damini's eyes "Toh maa? What's next?" "well we have to put her up in the donors list and wait for a suitable match but unfortunately we are running out of time."
"Then what are you waiting for put her on the donor list fast." Finally Manik lost his cool and shouted. "Bro relax." Abhi tried to calm him down but Manik was not in the mood to hear anything "What calm down Abhi? She's running out of time sunana tumne.. tum logon ke calm down ne hamein aaj yahan pahucha diya. Calm down." Manik walked off huffing and puffing and Abhi and Mukti ran behind him. Damini went to see DJ and it was just Nandini Cabir and Doctor.
Cabir apologized to the doctor and said something that took Nandini by surprise and shock. "Doctor Can I ask you something?" Cabir asked and the doctor nodded in a yes. "Who can be a donor and will the donor's identity will be kept a secret?" Cabir asked again. Doctor replied "Anyone who is healthy and fits in the regulations can be a donor and yes the donor's identity will be kept a secret." Cabir smiled and said "Well in that case I would like to test for it. May I?" doctor nodded in yes and asked him to follow him.
"Cabir!" Nandini stopped him. "Why are you hiding it?" Cabir smiled and said "Nandini tum Manik ko jaanti ho. If he comes to know then he will feel guilty and what not. I've know DJ since childhood, she has loved me equally like Manik and I owe this to her Nandini. I owe this to her love and warmth, I owe this to love Manik has given me." "But Cabir." Nandini tried to speak but Cabir stopped her in between "please Nandini it's a request don't tell Manik about it and I know you won't that's why I asked the doctor in front of you." Nandini nodded in a yes and Cabir smiled and walked off.
Manik was sitting in the lobby and he seemed lost. He didn't knew where to go what to do when he felt two dear hands caressing his hair. He looked up to find Nandini. "What are you doing out! Lets go in." he picked her in is arms and took her to her room. He placed her on the bed and started to walk off when she held his arm and said "Please mere paas raho na." Manik smiled and lied next to her and she went in his embrace. "You know what Manik my Ams used to say that the darker the night and brighter the sun comes out. Trust me Manik this night will also end and the new day will bring new hope for all of us. And look at the best part we are together and we will get over this together because this forever is bigger than any forever." Manik smiled and kissed her forehead and said "thank you." And they both closed eyes in each other's embrace to feel each other's love and warmth and soon drifted in sleep.
Life is never easy. It always test us and throws the biggest challenges at us. But when you are hit with the biggest storm of your life and braved it. You don't know how you survived but you know one thing that you are not the same person you were before the storm. You change; you emerge stronger and braver.
