Love is a dangerous thing for some.

Nandani felt sleepy as she looked at her watch it was nearly time to meet Manik. She had hardly had anytime to sleep as last night Rishab her little brother had come down with a fever and she had looked after him. Her Chachiji was busy in the kitchen and Chachaji would probably be home soon. Rishab sat infront of the TV watching some cartoons. There was huge framed picture of her late parents on the wall near the door. She wondered for a second, what her parents would have thought of Manik.
"Chachiji, do you think Ma and papa would have liked Manik?" She asked as Chachiji came out of the kitchen with some snacks in a bowl for Rishab.
"He is so rich and marrying into out middle class family. He is a true gem that boy. They would have loved him" She assured her. Chachiji frowned, and tried to dispel all unpleasant thoughts about Manik. She could not help but feel uneasy Nandani had always been such a good child growing up. If she had any problems she had never told her of them and kept them to herself. She feared if Nandani had any problems in her sasural she would never say.
The doorbell rang gaining both of their attention.
"Manik beta, kaise ho tum?" Chachiji said as she opened the door. Manik smiled he looked as though he just came home from work. His tie was loosened and his hair ruffled.
"A little tired but I am fine and you" He said, Nandani came behind her aunt. She was wearing a pretty salwar kameez and her hair was opened and she smiled at him shyly.
"Teek ho, yeh lo tumhari hone wali patni aye" She said and pushed Nandani out the door.
"You too have fun" She said closed the door.
Nandani blushed and looked down while Manik chuckled.
"Let's go" He said and pulled her towards his car he ordered his driver to take them to restaurant.
Nandani looked out the window to avoid looking at his handsome face.
"Where is your ring?" He asked reaching out and holding her hand non to gently. Nandani remembered leaving it on Rishab's dresser. She had taken it off not wanting to get it into water she had brought to wipe his brow with when he was sick.
"I left it on Rishab's table" She said. Manik frowned at her hand but said nothing.
Nandani felt him let go then. He took out his phone and began texting someone.
3 months earlier
Nandani had just come home from college. She was surprised to find really expensive cars surrounding her home.
"Rishab yeh sab kya hai?" She asked as she spotted him standing at the door almost looking as if he was waiting for her.
"Didi tumhariliyeh ladka dekne aiyee" He said looking in awe at the cars.
"Kya?" Nandani said confused.
"Chachiji neh kahaa mein yahaa ruk na tumhariliyeh aur tumko warn karoo" He said pushing her upstairs through the back.
"Usne kahaa yeh kapre pehna" Nandani stared at the outfit hanging near her closet feeling flabbergasted.
"Rishab voh ladka kaisa hai" Nandani asked
"Didi voh nahi ayi" He said excitedly. Nandani did not know why a tears came to her eyes. When? Why? How? Did this happen. She just started collage.
Why did they not prepare her for this?
She went down the stairs fifteen minutes later.
"Jaise suna ek dam vesai hai Murthyji" A lady said to her Chachaji most people called him by him surname. This indicated familiarity between the two of them.
Nandani could not hide the feelings of betrayal she felt.
"Yahaaa aona Nandani" The women said, she was dressed elegantly in a designer sari she motioned for her to sit next to her.
"Do you remember by any chance coming to your Chacha's office a few weeks ago" She asked her. Nandani remembered last week Chachi had forgotten his lunch and she had went to Malothra industries where he worked to give it to him.
"Yes why?" She asked confused.
"Mera beta ne tumko deka aur pasand kiya" She said looking at her appreciatively. Nandani looked at her Chachaji and Chachiji who looked as shocked as she did.
"Nandani mera paas sirf ek beta hain aur maine hamesha usko diya har cheez jo voh pasand karthi aur jab voh tum hare bare ne muj ko kahee main apne app ko rokna saka aur yahaa aye tum ko poochne kya tum mere beta ko shadi karungi" She finished off excitedly. Nandani's eyes widened.
"Nandani neh Manik sir ko miley nahi maam agar voh ek bar milto toh voh asani se jawaab dethi" Chacha ji said.
"Problem yeh hain ki Manik Japan gayee kuch kaam keh liyeh voh vapas ek hafte mein aygi aur mein toh jald se jald shadi ki preparations karna shuroo" Nandani paled but said nothing.
"Ek baar dono miltey toh hum logo ko jawaab dengi" The lady stood up and motioned for the men to move with her. They were bodyguards.
"I agree Murthy ji, lekin Nandani tu bahut pyaari hain, Manik jald aygi" She said and left somewhat awkwardly.
"Maine kahaa usko meri office math bejo" Chachaji said to chachiji once Mrs Malothra left.
"Tu chup kar, Nandani I can't believe it this is like a fairytale you have found your prince charming so soon" Chachiji said excitedly. Completely intoxicated by the gifts that they had left.
Chachaji shook his head and tried to push everything into one corner.
"Muje yeh rishta manzoor nahi hai" He said shaking his head.
"Areh kya tumne nahi deka voh itna bada log hain aise rishtey roz nahi ayenge" Chachaji said.
"Main voh ladka jantey hoon voh itna zyada bathmeez aur guse meh rehti voh Nandani keh liyeh teek nahi hai" He said.
They continued to fight neither seeing Nandani leave to her room.
{}{}{}
The next morning Nandani felt like she had just went through an out of body experience she left before anyone was up.
She went to college in a bit of a haze.
"Nandani tut eek hain?" her friend Navya asked her.
"Navya kal jab mein ghar gaye meri Chachaji ki boss neh meri ghar mein ayeh aur meri haath mangi" Navya's mouth dropped to the floor.
"Kya achanak aur tum neh kya kiya"
"Nothing much, it just felt so strange, my Chachaji though managed to stop it somehow and made his mom agree that I would answer only when we met. But my Chachiji really wants me to say yes" Nandani said confused.
"You should meet him Nandani, if you feel like you want to say yes than go ahead if not then refuse. I will always be with you" Navya said. Nandani really wanted to study. She did not want to marry any time soon. When she went home that evening the cars were here again her heart raced. But with a firm refusal in her mind she walked straight into the sitting room.
"Nandani tu ghar ayeh hai, yeh Manik she milo voh jaldi vapas ayeh tumse milne keh liye" Her heart stopped for a minute as she looked at him for the first time. He was handsome no less than any Bollywood movie hero. So very handsome. He had on a blue suit with a white shirt. He was fair skinned with short hair that looked like it had been styled perfectly.
His eyes were dark pools of black they peered into her own intensely.
Suddenly she wished she had changed worn something better.
"Jakar kitchen mein aur juice leh ao" Chachji said. She nodded relieved to make an escape and went to the kitchen. Why would such a gorgeous man ever be interested in her she wondered?
She brought the juice and handed it shyly to everyone.
"Nandani aur Manik akele mein bath karna ki ajazat hai?" His mother asked everyone.
"Zaroor, Manik ko bahar lejao" Chachiji said and gave chachaji a look to be quiet, when he tried to protest.
He followed her outside.
"So what shall we speak about?" He asked as they sat down in the backyard.
Nandani looked away unable to meet his eyes.
"You were in Japan" Nandani said confused.
"I told my mom not to come as yet but she came yesterday so I cancelled everything and came back" he said simply as if it was no big deal.
"Why do you want to marry me?" She asked him and looked at him for the first time. His eyes were intently on her.
"When I saw you that day walking into the office I just came home from a party and there you were just coming home from the temple. With a tiffin in your hand scolding your uncle for leaving his lunch at home. I fell in love with you" He said.
"You don't know me, you can't just love me"
"I love you, I want to marry you. Be mine" He said. Then he woke up.
"Jawaab andar dedhijeh" He said and left Nandani felt weird as she watched him walk away.
She exhaled heavily.
She went inside and agreed.

NOW
"Manik hum yahaan kyu aye" Nandani asked confused it was his house. This was not a restaurant.
"I forgot where we are going just like how you forget your ring Nandani" He said angrily getting out of his side and opening the door.
"Manik why are you speaking like this?" Nandani asked confused tears forming in her eyes.
"If you don't like being engaged to me just say so Nandani" He said.
"Manik I really just forgot it on..."
"If you can forget your ring one day you will forget you have a fiance and go off with another man"
"Manik I am sorry" Nandani cried and held onto his arm. He pushed her away and pushed her back into the car.
"Driver please take Nandani back home" He said and slammed the car door shut.
{}{}{}{}
When she went home she immediately put the ring on.
Nandani was crying in her bed that night it was a little after 12 when Manik texted her.
COME OUTSIDE
She snuck outside.
He had driven this time. He opened the door for her to get in.
He drove until they were at his home again and he pulled her inside.
He wrapped his arms around her tightly.
"Nandani I am sorry. I just feel insecure about you" He said into her ear.
"I will never take the ring off I am sorry" She said into his chest.
He cupped her cheeks and made her look into his eyes.
"Nandani do you love me?" He asked her. She nodded and blushed. Her legs felt like mush at their proximity.
She spent the rest of the night in his arms.

The wedding was a week away. There was going to be a pre wedding party at the Malothra mansion.
"Nandani tu yeh pen kar" Chachiji said Nandani fiddled with it when she wore it. It was a rather revealing lenga.
"Chachiji yeh kuch..." Chachiji shook her head.
"Uss party mein ladki asi kapreh penengi aur agar kisi Manik ko tumse chenle? Toh kya, toh maine yeh banaya yeh toh agar tum penti uski aanke tumse nahi hatongi" Nandani blushed uncomfortably but silently went along with her crazy aunt.
Rishab was busy playing with a phone Manik had got for him. He had won everyone over so easily. She felt strange today was the first time she would see him since the night she had given him her body.
{}{}{}{}
Nandani felt everyone's eyes on her as they entered.
Manik came to stand near her and took her hand. His face had a weird expression Nandani gulped uncomfortably as she saw his jaw tick he was angry.
"What is this?" He asked her when they were finally alone.
"Chachi ji neh yeh meri liyeh banayatha" Manik reached out and pressed her against the wall.
"Aur tumneh pehna" He said reaching out and touching her skin.
"Ow Manik you are hurting me"
"Only I can see this much skin Nandani, me nobody else. I want you to change" He pressed some buttons on his phone and within a few minutes there was new clothes.
Nandani wore them and went back down to the party with him.
"Wow Manik your future wife is so beautiful" One of his friends said reaching out and hugging her.
She felt the hold on her wrist tighten.
"Thank you" Nandani said softly and looked down.
"Would you do me the honor of one dance?" he asked.
Nandani looked at Manik.
"If Manik says it's okay then yes" Manik nodded but he kept his face impassive.
She went with him.
"I have never seen Manik this in love before" the man said happily.
"Really?"
"Just look at the way he watches you, his eyes never leave you" He said twirling her. Nandani looked at Manik and smiled. Manik stood up and pulled her away from the man.
"Tu kar kya raheho Nandani?" He asked her shaking her.
"Just dancing" Nandani said in tears.
"So close to man whose name you did not even know, all that was left was privacy and you would have become his like you did mine that night did you forget that you are mine" He said. Nandani cried and slummed to floor when he let go of her.
"Ghar jao Nandani I don't want to see your face right now" He said annoyed.
{}{}{}
Nandani felt weird as she lay in her bed starrying at her ceiling. She had goals beforing meeting Manik. She kept making him angry. She reached out and fingered her phone.
It had been on silent 28 miscalls and 102 messages. All from Manik. Nandani phoned him back.
"Nandani answer the bloody phone when I phone you" He shouted at her. Nandani felt a tear slide down her cheek.
{}{}{}
She decided that she would speak to chachiji about everything after Manik's phone call.
"Nandu kya hua tu kyu rohri?" She asked her.
"Chachiji Manik..." She began and then told her aunt everything just leaving out the fact she had slept with him.
At the end her chachiji just smiled.
"Manik is just jealous Nandani, he is possessive of you it just shows how much he loves you pagli, it's not something to worry about, when men are young they are like this" Her chachiji wiped her tears.
"Soon as the wedding is over Manik will not be so possessive" Her chachiji said.
{}{}
The day of the wedding Nandani felt nervous it would be the first time in days since she had seen Manik.
He seemed happy to see her.
The wedding went by like in a blink of an eye.
{}{}{}
"I bought us a house" Manik said as they left.
"Really?"
"Yeah" Nandani was unsure how long he drove but he stopped at some point the house was completely isolated in dense woods.
"Manik this is scary, it's so isolated here"
"I bought it so I can have you all to myself forever" He said wrapping his arms around her. Nandani felt sick. As he dragged her towards the house.
"Muje ghar jana" Nandani said trying to break away.
"Well this is your home Nandani"
"I am scared I don't like this" Nandani said trying to pull away from him.
"Nandani bas karo if you want to cry, cry all you want you are never leaving this house ever" Manik said wickedly.
THE END
