The ba****ds of bollywood trailer
The very handsome actor Ayaz Ahmed, who stole many hearts as Raghu in Life OK's former show Do Dil Ek Jaan and later as Cabir, the first gay character on Indian television in MTV's Kaisi Ye Yaariyaan talks about his life, Kaisi Ye Yaariyaan and much more in an #exclusive interview with us.
Excerpts.
How much is Ayaz different from Cabir?
Ayaz is totally different from Cabir. Not just Cabir but Ayaz is totally different from all the characters that I have played so far. The reason is, I like creating characters rather than playing myself on-screen and I believe in performance designing. I conceive a character the way it's written. I create character like body language or action. So, everytime I create a character, I try to bring something new for the audience on table. I make sure that I don't put the attributes of Ayaz in any of the characters that I do. Whether it's Raghu from Do Dil Ek Jaan or any of my characters from the episodic, I have kept it very simple. I have kept Ayaz just to myself and not for audience, not for anybody outside my personal space. I live my characters, I create my characters and I start behaving like them, when I'm doing that. People tend to think that Raghu is pretty similar to Cabir or Ayaz is as funny, as mischievous like Cabir, that's because I live my character for that certain period and as the character gets over, I get back to myself. I completely throw away the characteristics I have been living in with and whatever new project comes my way or character I get, I start working on them.
What was your first reaction when you were told that you are playing the character of a gay?
I was doing Splitsvilla while they were still looking for Cabir's character and I was in the villa only when I got a call from MTV. The person who called me, said, Ayaz, there is a very interesting character and since I have known you for a long time, I know you like experimenting. The character is of a guy who is as normal as everyone else. He has his emotions, his friends, his family, he lives the way everyone lives, it's just that his preference is different from normal straight people. It's an added characteristic to his character. When I was told this, I was very excited because I knew they have written a very fantastic character called Cabir and he is homosexual, and though people have played a gay character before on television but none of them were serious. They were funny and not someone who will bring out empathy from the audiences. And I knew for a fact that if I will not do it, someone definitely will so if it's the first time on Indian television, then why not me? I should be the pioneer.
Are you a part of Kaisi Ye Yaariyaan season 2?
I really can't comment on this because so far, I'm not and I have been hearing a lot of rumours but I don't know how much true it is. It's completely the creative call and the channel call, that how they want to take the show ahead. What characters they need and they don't need so I have no idea about it.
A lesson you learnt from Kaisi Ye Yaariyaan?
I learn lessons all the time and not just one but I have learnt a lot of lessons from Kaisi Ye Yaariyaan. I can't be particular about what single lesson I learnt.
Bigg Boss Season 9 is on it's way. Any chance of Ayaz being locked up in the house?
No. I have done two reality shows in the past six years and I think for now, it's enough. I would rather concentrate on fiction now. I don't mind doing reality shows but not for now. Probably in season 15 or 16 but definitely not in season 9.
Who do you think will win Splitsvilla this season?
Sorry, I have not been following it so I have no idea.
Which is your dream role?
A lot of roles. I'm very ambitious and very greedy in life. I can't really say that I have one dream role. I want to play all the good characters.
Who is Ayaz's real life Antara?
Ah! No one. (Laughs)
If you were given a chance to take an actress out on dinner, from bollywood , whom would you prefer?
Alia Bhatt, obviously.
Your biggest phobia?
My biggest phobia is, what if something happens to me and I won't be able to act anymore? As much as breathing is important to live, acting is that important to me. I can't picture myself doing any other thing except acting so that's my biggest phobia, what if I can't act?
If you were given a wish to change one thing in your life or situation you are in, what would you change?
Nothing. I would accept everything that comes my way very gracefully, even if it's bad because that is how you learn and grow. That is how you gain experience so I just adapt myself to the situation whether it's good or bad.
Message to the fans.
Keep watching my shows. Keep watching Kaisi Ye Yaariyaan season 2. It's an amazing show, and amazing people are carrying it forward. I'm on a break as of now but I will be back soon with something good, something better on television and I'm sure you are going to love it. I know many of you are asking why I'm not doing Cabir anymore, that's because I don't enjoy doing it anymore. I was not happy doing Cabir anymore, to be honest. The character was done and so I asked the channel to put an end to the character and they did it very gracefully. And when I'm not enjoying my work, how will you guys enjoy watching me as Cabir? I'm very passionate about my work. I did Raghu because I wanted to do, I did Cabir when people were expecting me to do a love story. I ended up doing a homosexual character and people loved it because I enjoyed doing it. It's important for me to enjoy my work and be completely convinced about what I'm doing.
