There journey started from very beginning.. before getting physically attracted to her it was her inner strength and innocence which caught his attention..

Remember in the Egg throwing scene, He was so surprised that she dared to stand-up against them to protect her friend.. First similarity btwn them.. first selfless act of her which he noticed.
He was so intrigued to know whether she really want to take her friend's side and face their wrath.
